The unique 7.7" diameter provides 20% more surface area, than the typical 6.5", therefore providing an increase in efficiency as well as the ability to play louder and cleaner at high volumes. Although these speakers require a slightly larger mounting hole, they are well worth the small modification for the amount of sound they can produce.

TCX (aka Tower Coaxial) models have woofers specifically engineered for enclosed operation. What does this mean? This means that they are designed to operate within an enclosure. More specifically, the woofer design is optimized to operate with a small volume of air behind it (ideally less than 1.5ft³). The bass response of the speaker will suffer significantly if placed in a large enclosure or in an Infinite Baffle (aka "Free Air"), so make sure your system is planned accordingly. This makes them ideal for wakeboard tower systems, custom tower pods or other small enclosure applications . The M-Series is purpose-engineered and built for real marine duty and has been specifically designed to deliver maximum audio performance in any open-air boating environment. Although M770-TCX Coaxial Systems can be used with as little as 40 Watts per channel, for best audio performance JL Audio recommends amplifiers capable of between 75 - 150 Watts of continuous power per channel, like the JL Audio M400/4 or JL Audio MHD600/4.

High Performance Highs

A 1-inch pure silk dome tweeter handles the high-frequency duties. Silk has been chosen for its lightness, excellent damping properties and smooth response characteristics that ultimately result in extremely transparent crisp audio. You will appreciate the clean, articulate high-frequency response of the M-Series dome tweeter, especially at higher volume levels. The tweeter is specially treated to withstand the harsh marine environment, and is optimized to provide sound that will cut through even the most demanding of those marine environments.

True Marine Tested Design

Specifically engineered polymer baskets are corrosion and UV-resistant and encapsulate the woofer's motor system to prevent corrosion. The system's true 2-way passive crossover network is sealed within the protective capsule and mounted to the woofer's frame so that it does not require additional mounting provisions and is protected from the harmful elements. JL Audio utilizes Ultraviolet testing chambers (to simulate years of sun exposure) and Salt Fog chambers (to simulate years of exposure to salt-water environments to ensure that the M-Series not only sound great in your boat, but will also sound great for many, many years.
