I'm an avid audiophile and music lover and have been on the search for a natural sounding head unit for my car. Along the years I tried many Pioneer , Sony and Alpine head units. While they were good enough they are no match for the JVC. The difference is not night and day but the JVC unit has the very obvious edge of being very smooth, detailed and natural sounding than all. When I was recently shopping at SE for a new experience I stumbled on the JVC and was actually a bit hesitant to buy it. I eventually did and have no regrets whatsoever. I've also recommended it to 2 of my friends and they were both equally pleased with what they heard.
The unit locks excellently with many mobile phones I tried with it through Bluetooth, has been sonically and operatively very consistent.
Highly recommended if you're looking to approach an audiophile sound similar to what you get from a high quality/high end home audio source.
I'm a regular customer at Sonic Electronix and have been very well served at all times. I will never shop anywhere else except maybe if I was looking for an item they didn't have.

found this helpful.Great sound but microphone sucks
I purchased this product with the specific need to answer phonecalls thru the unit. Connecting the unit was a snap with the supplied harness and it fit perfectly in my new Rav4 with the face adapter. The stereo comes with a microphone that plugs in to the back of the unit for answering hands free phone calls. Pretty sweet huh? Except one thing; the sound is unbearable for the person on the other phone. It sounds like I'm underwater and screeching into the phone. They can bearly understand and thing I say and usually hang up after a few seconds So the unit is basicly useless for what I purchased it for. The iPod controls ate fine for shuffle but don't try to search for a song if you have over a 1,000 albums like me. JVC customer support was useless. They told me it may have been wired incorrectly. I can't imagine how I could have plugged that microphone in wrong?! I rechecked the wiring a couple of times and even tried a new mic. Nope. It's the unit.

I am a JVC fan, so this is my 2nd car deck that I bought from here already. This newer R900 deck has all the toys to play all day with, but recently is having trouble reading my USB key in the front and back of the available hook-ups. Sometimes takes 10min to read my music, when u turn the deck ON. Tried different USB key, same result.
I'll see if it gets any worse on a daily basis.
Other than that, its an awesome deck, worth every penny on what's out on the market today.

This is a great head unit with many features and 2 USB ports so you can use the bluetooth and connect other media (usb thumb drive, ipod, etc.) It also has a 3.5mm jack for any media device with a headphone jack. I have heard complaints about the lack of numbered buttons for radio stations, but I rarely listen the radio anymore so I like that there is not 6 or 10 numbered buttons cluttering the display. It can also change colors when the lights are turned on at night. Bright colors for good visibility in the day and soft colors at night. With all the custom color settings you can easily match your factory dash lighting. I would recommend this headunit to anyone who wants bluetooth and ipod capabilities.

I've had this unit in my 08 Subaru WRX STI for the past 5 months. The audio quality over the stock unit was amazing. I've been absolutely happy with it until today.
Pros:
Good audio quality, lots of features and less $$$ than other units with the same feature. User Eq gives plenty of control to fine tune the audio to my preference. Ability to set separate colors for daytime/night time use.
Cons:
BIG One..the display starts to fade when it gets hot out. It's only May and temps are 90 degrees here in AZ. I can't read the display when I get in my car because its washed out. As the display cools it gets better but even tint and cold A/C don't get the display back on my 20 minute drive home. Wish this unit had RDS to display FM station/song info.

This head unit is just what I wanted. It has Bluetooth which works great with my iPhone. 2 USB outputs have an iPod on one or your flashdrive on the other. Variable color don't mess with it but good.
Extremely fast shipping. Thought it would get here on Tuesday night. NO. Got here a day earlier and in DAY-LIGHT. Maybe cause of the holidays but good shipping.
Sonicelectronix is the best.

Works seamlessly with my Motorola Droid. Lots of different options for listening to music in my car: can plug in my iPod, can plug in my Droid (and can either play music thats stored on the Droid or stream music for one of my music apps like Slacker, Last.FM, or Pandora. Can also stream talk radio apps (like NPR's app). Incoming calls will pause or stop music and after call hangs up, will go back to music. I love it!
The design and usability of the interface could be better, but hey for the money this is a great player I highly recommend.

I wanted a bluetooth stereo for use with my iPhone 3G that included hands free phone capabilities, music streaming and plug/play and charge ability with the iPhone and other music players.
I found this JVC KD-R900 offered the most flexibility, features & function with hi quality hardware components often found in much more expensive decks. I was seriously considering getting the Sony BT unit but it needed a special adapter for charging and I decided on this unit instead....and especially was advised so by a few people who were familiar with this JVC as being a great unit. I'm really happy that I did because it sounds just FANTASTIC and couldn't be happier!
You can stream your music thru the BT or plug it in via usb cable to charge and play/scroll menus (with no special adapters needed). If you stream music by BT you have limited control over the iPhone music from the JVC unit, but if does allow you full remote control via the USB port. This isn't a big detractor for me as if I really want that type of control I can just plug it in to one of the two offered USB ports. The Best features I like are the most excellent Burr-Brown 24bit DAC (digital to analog converters) which sound absolutely fantastic and the 5 volt Mos-Fet amplifier built in at 50 watts x4. I also really like the way you can use the supplied mic and talk hands free via bluetooth. The phone rings and the music fades out, and after your call is done the music fades back in. NICE!!!
I found that the radio features are well designed,(it is Digital Radio ready) so you can add XM or Sirus, the unit has no physical buttons on the face for presets. That could be a consideration if you really listen to a whole lot of radio. It has something like 17 presets available and they are accessible through a buttons, still pretty easy to use once you have your favorite stations set and saved.
Over all I'm very happy with this deck and recommend it highly. Many of the features and hardware upgrades this unit offers would cost 3 or 4X's as much in other decks and still may not rival it's design and flexibility.

So, I got this unit because it was on sale and it has 5v preamp outs on the RCA's. I was told that by going from 2v to 5v will yield absolutely no change in the audio in my car. As it turns out they were wrong. My old unit would get distortion after 40 on the dial (max 62) and I had to crank my amps gain all the way up in order to get the power I wanted (at 40) and it still felt like the speakers could go more. Now that I have this unit, I cranked the dial to 50 (which is its max) and there was no distortion, the amps gain was at zero, and yet it was as loud as my older unit with 2v. So now, its slightly louder (can actually max the speakers) and higher quality thanks to the DAC's in this unit. Plus, the unit looks basic and the color can be changed to match my dash lights meaning it looks semi-stock. Not to mention that the unit is easy to use right out of the box and wasn't hard to learn at all. If you like this product, get it.
