It utilizes JL Audio’s advanced Single-Cycle Control and R.I.P.S. The HD1200/1 is a "wide-range" monoblock, meaning that while it is primarily used for subwoofers, it has the fidelity and frequency response to drive high-performance mid-range speaker systems if needed. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Why does my HD1200/1 put out the same power at 1.5 ohms and 4 ohms?

This is due to JL’s Single-Cycle Control and R.I.P.S. technology. The amp automatically adjusts its internal rail voltage to deliver a consistent 1200W RMS regardless of the speaker impedance (between 1.5 and 4 ohms).

The status LED is flashing Red/Green. Is the amplifier defective?

No. This is a "low voltage" warning. The HD1200/1 is highly efficient but requires a steady power supply. Check your battery and ground. If the voltage drops below 10V during a bass hit, the amp will flash this code to protect itself.

I have no sound and the LED is solid Red. How do I reset it?

Solid Red indicates a thermal or short-circuit fault. Turn off the system and check for a speaker wire touching the car's metal frame. Ensure the amp has at least 1 inch of clearance; it uses its outer "sink" to dissipate heat.

My "Infrasonic Filter" has a switch for 24dB or 12dB. Which should I use?

If you have a ported (vented) box, use the 24dB (steeper) setting at roughly 30Hz. This prevents the subwoofer from "over-excursion" (moving too far) below the tuning frequency, which can snap the woofer's suspension.

Can I stack two HD amps on top of each other to save space?

Yes. The HD series is designed for "Stacking." You must use the JL Audio HD Stack Kit (sold separately). This provides the necessary air gap and secure bolting points to ensure both amps stay cool while mounted together.

The amp turns on, but the output is very quiet even with the gain up.

Check the "Input Voltage" switch. If set to "High" while using a standard low-voltage RCA output from an aftermarket radio, the signal will be too weak. Switch it to "Low" to match the head unit’s RCA signal level.

Does this amplifier require a remote turn-on wire for a factory radio?

Not necessarily. If you use the speaker-level inputs, you can set the "Turn-On Mode" to "Signal" or "DC Offset." The amp will "sense" the audio from your factory wires and turn on automatically without a separate 12V remote lead.

What size fuse and power wire are required for this 1200W amp?

You must use 4 AWG 100% pure copper (OFC) wire and a 100A fuse. Do not use "CCA" (aluminum) wire; the HD1200/1 draws significant current, and cheap wire will cause it to overheat or enter protection mode.

Bought this amp to run a 12w6v2, and wow, thats all I have to say. well worth the money, and if I want to add a second sub I always can. It will handle them both easy. A bit pricey, but im sure it will be the last sub amp i buy for a long time.

I use one of these to power a 13w7 and it gives it every thing it can handle and more. The noise floor is non existent like the amp is silent completely until the music starts. And it barely gets warm even after hours of play on long trips and myself I have never had a shit down or anything. And all I have for electrical is stock 120amp alt 4 Gauge ran back to a 1000 watt capable secondary battery and 1/0 run from that bat to the amp and it’s so efficient I barely have any headlight flicker. I have been banging this amp for 6 years and could not be happier. I wonder how many so called better for cheaper amps have burned up in the 6 years I have had this amp. Yea it’s not cheap but if your serious about your audio like me and you plan to keep the stuff or actually want to get something back out of it if you do sell do yourself a favor and just save a little longer and get the good stuff the first time instead of doing like a lot of noobs and saying well this amp says 1500 Watts at 1ohm I will get that for half price, trust me you ain’t getting what you think. I dare you to compare this amp to any amp under 5k Watts that’s a unregulated amp and I bet this one in the car actually playing music is louder. I myself have a DC 2k and the HD 1200/1 is every bit as loud or louder on less electrical and less cone area on the sub.

Unreal SQ and SPL

bought two of these bad boys to power 2 12w7AE's in a custom built ported box. however i only hooked up 1 amp to 1 sub.. and being honest it was twice as loud as my previous setup of 1 rockford t2d412 powered by a pdxm12. i cant imagine hooking the other amp and sub it would make me deaf. the sound quality is superb, doesnt need much power it will stay at 1200rms even at 11v and barely get warm. i would recommend this amp to anyone and everyone i know. ive had several different brands over the years and this one is by far the best if you are looking for both SQ and SPL

Wicked Amps

Again, I did a lot of research on the amps to pair with my JL Audio C7’s. And these were by far the best. Very well made and with the intelligent power supply, They get nowhere near as hot. I have fans wired into my system which have yet to come on. The sound is amazing, and you hear every level of detail with no distortion. Paired with a my 13W7AE, this thing is a beast!!
