MX-Series coaxial systems deliver excellent performance at a more affordable price than JL Audio's maximum-performance M-Series models.
CCX (Cockpit Coaxial) models have woofers specifically designed for infinite-baffle applications. This means that they are designed to operate without an enclosure. More specifically, the woofer design is optimized to operate with a large volume of air behind it (at least 2 cu. ft.). The bass response of the speaker will suffer significantly if placed in a small enclosure, so make sure your system is planned accordingly. The MX-Series is purpose-engineered and built for real marine duty and has been specifically designed to deliver maximum audio performance in any open-air boating environment. Although MX650-CCX Coaxial Systems can be used with as little as 20 W per channel, for best audio performance JL Audio recommends amplifiers capable of between 75 - 100 Watts of continuous power per channel, like the JL Audio M400/4.
A 0.75-inch pure silk dome tweeter handles the high-frequency duties. Silk has been chosen for its lightness, excellent damping properties and smooth response characteristics that ultimately result in extremely transparent crisp audio. You will appreciate the clean, articulate high-frequency response of the MX-Series dome tweeter, especially at higher volume levels. The tweeter is specially treated to withstand the harsh marine environment, and is optimized to provide sound that will cut through even the most demanding of those marine environments.
Specifically engineered polymer baskets are corrosion and UV-resistant and encapsulate the woofer's motor system to prevent corrosion. Also, the injection-molded mica-filled polypropylene cone bodies with synthetic rubber surrounds, are specifically formulated with UV inhibitors for marine duty and the synthetic fiber spiders, with progressive roll designs, are optimized to withstand high humidity . JL Audio utilizes Ultraviolet testing chambers (to simulate years of sun exposure) and Salt Fog chambers (to simulate years of exposure to salt-water environments) to ensure that the MX-Series not only sound great in your boat, but will also sound great for many, many years.

JL vs WET SOUNDS
I purchased a new boat with six (6) XS-650's and was not real happy with the sound. So, I then purchased six (6) JL MX650-CCX's and only replaced the right three. Using the balance, left to right, the JL's were noticeably better. I did all the readings, read all the reviews, and matched up all the specs, but actually listening to them at the same time was the real ticket. I ended up loosing money on the WET SOUNDS when I sold them on E***, but every time I take my boat out, it's worth it.

Great Product
These are great sounding speakers for the money. If your looking for 6.5's I would get these instead of the M's. You won't be disappointed.
