A bit weaker than advertised, but still good
I tested this XP1200i model using ~3ft long true 4awg full OFC power and ground wires to my vehicle. I first want to note that the bolt and nut on the inverter's negative input stripped out a bit on the very first use. It's not terrible, but the ring terminal I used isn't 100% tight. More like 85%. Has a tiny wiggle if you rip on it, which I know is not desirable. Rest assured I was NOT wrenching down hard on it or something either. It's just cheap. I would have liked to see more stout bolts/nuts there. I fired up the car, plugged in an expensive 50ft true 12awg extension cord, and then plugged in the full size refrigerator in my house. I flipped the switch on the inverter and presto. Perfect. Works like a champ and fridge fired right up. The little LCD screen started alternating between voltage and, I guess, wattage being drawn? There's no mention of the LCD screen in the owner's manual for me to go off of. The displayed wattage was 990 watts. I opened the door to the fridge and the light turned on. The LCD display now shows 1030 watts. Seems high, but at least it's working. After a minute, it just started displaying all zeros. Alternating between the voltage and "0000". The fridge was still running and the light was on, but zeros on display. Just out of curiosity, I unplugged the fridge and plugged it back in. The fridge fired right back up and the LCD screen went back to displaying 990 again. After about 1 minute, it was back to 0000 (but again, fridge still works). No clue what's up with that. But just for fun, I plugged my Kill-a-Watt power meter inline the fridge to measure the actual wattage being drawn. It was FAR lower than 990, as many of you might have guessed. Less than half that. So maybe that number isn't wattage? But what else could it possibly be? At any rate, the product worked for me. I was able to run a full size fridge/freezer off the 1200W model. To me, that was the test, as I know that ain't easy for a small inverter. I'm happy and I'm keeping it. At the same time, I know how these inverters can be.... so I purchased the 3yr SquareTrade warranty just in case. haha
