Rain Sensor RT-50A

Rain Tracker RT-50A

The new RT-50A offers even better rain sensing performance than Hyrdeon's previous model RT-50. Further, Hydreon's new rain sensor is compatible with thick windshields, such as those found on some RV's and heavy trucks, and includes available headlamp control relay output and cam feedback input. Remarkable. Better performance at a loHydreonr cost.

Seamless Integration

The Rain Tracker control module works in parallel with the existing wiper system. Manual modes are not affected, which means you don't give up any features. For most installations, the Rain Tracker ties into a few wires coming off the wiper switch. Hydreon provides detailed wiring diagrams for over 5000 different vehicles.

A dash-mounted switch activates the Rain Tracker. Simply leave the switch off when it is not raining, or when cleaning the windshield or going through a car wash.

Wiring Diagram

Headlamp Control Relay Output

The RT-50A includes a headlamp control relay output that can be used to control the vehicle headlamps. The lights come on when it is raining, or when it is dark. Hydreon developed a smart headlamp control algorithm that does and excellent job of turning on the lights just when you would-- a lot like the rain sensor that turns on the wipers just when you would. The lights come on rapidly in a tunnel, yet do not make annoying rapid on/off changes.

Headphone_Amp

Cam Feedback Input

Many vehicles send digital data from the wiper switch to control the windshield wipers, so you cannot tap into the wiper system coming from the switch. In most of these cases, you can tie into the wiper motor windings at the motor, and use the cam feedback input of the RT-50A to insure that the wipers properly return home at the end of each cycle.

Now The Catch

Wiring the vehicle for headlamp control is trickier than controlling the wipers. It often involves external relays. So, while Hydreon emphasizes how straightforward a the wiper control wiring is, Hydreon makes no such claims for the headlamp control. Hydreon provide the feature more for the for the professional installer, the OE / Chassis builder applications (e.g. RV's), and the advanced DIY. Hydreon advises against its deployment for most nonprofessionals. Hydreon does not offer any technical support or design assistance for the headlamp control feature. The headlamp control works great, but you are on your own to use it.

Best bang for the buck!

I bought four of these for the price. I have installed it on two of my cars so far. Unfortunately there isn't any support for installation on the auto headlights. They should remove it as a feature. You have to be advanced in auto electronics to figure that one out. The wipers alone are well worth the price.

Great Little rain sensor

I was used to having a rain sensor in my last car (a Mini Cooper) that worked extremely well. This is not as good as the BMW but is still a great add-on. Turns out despite all the wiring that comes with it, it is a fairly simple install and only took about 2 hours to complete after I got the necessary interior panels off. Comes with everything you need (I soldered my connections so some extra was needed) to finish it.

Someone mentioned how loud the relays were in the control box so if you have some kind of sound insulation you can wrap around the control box you won't hear it working.

The wipe rate (frequency) is adjustable through the windshield mounted sensor but you need a tiny Phillips head to adjust it. All I needed was a slightly lower frequency and a quarter turn did the trick. An external adjustment would be nice but not too much of a problem to do it now.

Very satisfied in wet Northwest weather!

The Best Mod I Have Ever Installed!

South Florida weather is beautiful 8 months of the year but the other 4 months it always rains. This device is wonderful to have. I am no longer distracted by having to change wiper speeds or turn on and off the headlamps when it rains. Everything is automatic. This system works perfectly in all conditions including mist from tires on wet roads to driving rain storms. I am very happy with this system and plan on installing it on every vehicle I own. BTW my dealership was also impressed with the install and could not believe it was on a '11 Sonata. I really adds another level of value to any car.

Great Mod

Once you have the schematic for your install ready, the installation is a breeze. Very good support on the auto wiper install, but none for the auto headlight side which is the only drawback I have found. Best Bang for the price.

Add luxury features for less than a quarter of the price.

Depending on what you wanted on your vehicle when you bought it, you may have ended up with features your know nothing about. And like many, simply as to get a no-frills, no extras vehicle to avoid dealer prices.

If you are here, it means that you want to add either of two features to your vehicle.
Automatic Wipers (when raining and auto increments from LOW to HIGH) and/or Automatic Headlamps (when dark and in tunnels)

You can have either or both of these features, granted the auto headlamps is an add-on feature, you'll need either a relay, depending on your vehicle, and a toggle switch.
Install varies by vehicle but the RainTracker is set up to handle all kinds of wiring systems so it always has you covered. Their website also sports a reasonable database of vehicles that will get you going but essentially all you need is a bit of know how about your vehicle's wiring.
If you can't wire it yourself many shops will do it for a bit less than an alarm install but I really recommend that if you wired a stereo, save your money and wire it yourself.

Overall, my install was painless, my vehicle uses a Ground Side Switching System, so essentially, I just need to ground the circuit and a relay takes care of the rest.
You can even have other equipment use the outputs of the RainTracker if desired to get a really custom install for your car.

In summary, highly recommended, exemplary product that does the job much cheaper and gives you more options for your money.

Excellent Product

I work for a company that installs Mobility Adaptations for individuals with Disabilities. These individuals need Reliable products more than the average consumer and the Hydreon Rain Tracker System delivers. I recommend this system to anyone purchasing an aftermarket automatic wiper system.
