AMAZING sound, definitely delivers!
I recommend these headphones to anyone that is looking for a serious high-quality sound experience.
I have put these through rock music, rap/hip-hop music, classical music, and regional Mexican music as well... It handles and plays it all how it should sound.
When it comes to the sound-quality of headphones one should take in consideration that the "quality of your songs" contribute to the experience as well, but aside from that these headphones bring out anything you throw at them. They're great! and here is why:
I mostly listen to Electronic Dance Music and the SE-MX9 headphones give you every single sound in such good clarity. The bass pounds nicely, it's nothing like the flappy, unnecessary bass that some headphones deliver. In other words, the bass is delivered the way it is supposed to be... high, low, hard, and precise.
As far as mid-range and highs these headphones keep up with it all, it is truly clear and loud!! One can hear every sound distinctively, not mushed up and nasty. Every beat, every rhythm, at any speed, any time... with the punchy or broad bass encrypted along with it all!
One can switch from a nice (studying scenario) classical music experience to a loud (personal enjoyment) experience with a switch of a song and a few clicks of the volume.
Comfort-ability is key in sound/music experience too..
The headphones are comfortable over your head and around your ears, the cushion feels nice (they say I have a bigger-than-average-head-__-), BUT the fit is just tight enough to keep the headphones on your head, would not recommend super-head-banging with em tho. I personally would have preferred them to be just a LITTLE more tight.
As with all over-head headphones, they tend to be slightly-heavier than average on-ear, and may get a little hot/sweaty after 2-hours of listening.. but once you hear and use these headphones, that will be the least of your worries.
The SE-MX9's ability to block all exterior noise is great for not having any sound-cancelling technology, nice tight seal.
As far as sound-leakage, the nice tight seal helps with that.
I blare music from time to time, and I've had others play them at all levels while wearing them next to me to confirm this... they BARELY leak at 3/4 and slightly higher sound volume!
If you turn up the volume all the way, like painfully all the way, well of course they're gonna leak, but not ridiculously. The leaking is small compared to most over-the-head headphones I have tried out. (I've tried a lot of headphones, sound-leaking is my main priority as well.)
These headphones are big, but if you are like me and do not mind, you will notice that they have a unique nice sleek look to them when you wear them on your head. They have the "nice-big" look to them, not the "funny-big" in other words.
Wearing them around your neck feels comfortable too, the swivel feature helps with that, the headphones do not choke your neck instead rest nicely over your collar bones. The durability is good because of the simple design, if you use them for what they are meant to be used for that is. They have a slight plastic feeling when you hold them in your hands, but it is more of a sturdy feeling to them, they are nicely built.
The pictures say it all as far as style, the appreciation of style rests on your hands. I personally love it, the only thing is that I wish they made a dark black design.
The in-line microphone works and sounds really good, I do not like that the cable is half red/half black but like I said, those are the least of my worries. The longer DJ cable seems flimsy but never worry about the cable accidentally being pulled out. (headphone-lock feature)
Over all these headphones are great, Pioneer delivered with this one. Do not worry about the price, you actually get what you pay for with the Pioneer SE-MX9.
These headphones deliver from the every day listener/student to the DJ constantly handling them while laying sets. You will experience sound in all sorts of great and maybe even new ways in respect to your personal choice of music.
