After spending numerous hours looking at something that would fit my needs without custom fabbing an enclosure this seems like the best option.

Will these work in the rear 6 1/2 factory holes on 98 Tacoma ext cab? Will my aftermarket head power them enough? I listen primarily to jazz, old country classical and classic rock. NO THUMP-THUMP! I just want to fill out the lows. Can they be installed free air or should I seal off the area behind them?
George D on Nov 23, 2014
Best Answer: Your aftermarket stereo will power them but not to the level required plus you will need to have a low pass filter to keep the high frequencies out. I would recommend a small amp. The do sound good in a free air/door panel as long as you put the right wattage to them. And RMS wattage is what you should base ur amp on. I used a 4 channel amp to run the speakers. Front two channels for the highs, and the rear channels for the subs in the doors. With 50w rms going to them they really put out some good sound and fills the bottom end ok not as good as subs in box. Hope that helps.

What volume enclosure should these be in and can they be free air mounted?
A shopper on Jun 17, 2015
Best Answer: They don't do well in enclosures. In a door panel is where I found they work best.
