i just recently purchased a hifonics brutus brx1516.1d and I wanted to pair it with a Kicker 15" L7. My question is i don't know which "OHM" of Kicker 15" L7 to buy (4OHM or 2OHM) my amplifier is "1 OHM Stable" and 1500 watts RMS at 1OHM and that is what "load" i would like to put on it. So do i purchase "one" kicker 15" L7 2 0hm and wire it parallel to amplifier achieve a 1 ohm load to get most power out of amplifier? I would appreciate any help or comments on how the best way to get the most power out of this amplifier and which 15" L7 to pair it with i have heard nothing but great things about the L7 series, and for this sub is ported or sealed box the way to go for loud bass?

Best Answer: Hello,

First, so we are on the same page, the drivers are DUAL-2ohm and DUAL-4ohm . This isn't silly semantics, as one can easily confuse what you are saying for a SINGLE-2ohm/4ohm driver, which completely changes the conversation.

To your point, you will require a Dual-2ohm, wired in parallel, to achieve a 1ohm load. However, we do not suggest this, and strongly advise against it. I don't mean to sound rude, I just want to make sure you protect your investment, but if you are not experienced with car audio, then you should attempt powering a 1000w driver with an amplifier that is potentially putting out ~1500w . Instead, my suggestion is going with the Dual-4ohm driver, wired to 2ohms, and staying within the range of the driver's handling. Unless you are absolutely sure that your installer can tune the setup right, and you are responsible enough to not drive the setup to its limits then go with the 1ohm system. =]

im trying to decide which brutus will be the best choice to power my 2 kicker cvt shallow mount 10's? the 1515.1d or the1116.1d? each are 400 RMS/800 PEAK
kaenon c on Nov 18, 2015
Best Answer: It really depends on a few things. What ohm are the subs you have? You want to match your subs and amp based on RMS, not peak. This amp is advertised to produce 900watts RMS at a 2 ohm load, which should be enough power to supply both your subs, assuming that your running at a 2 ohm load. Also, it's always a good idea and spend the money upfront for a more powerful amp, if your budget allows, so that way if you ever decide to upgrade in the future you know your amp will be able to supply the power.

Hi, I'm new to the car audio scene and I'm building my first set up for my 7th Gen Honda Civic. I recently purchased the Kicker 43DCWR122 (Dual 12" Loaded Enclosure) and I'm looking at the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X302 for a deck. Should I choose the Hifonics HFi1500D, the Hifonics Brutus BRX1516.1D, or would you have a better amp recommendation for this setup?

Best Answer: Hi, I actually sent back the Hifonics amp that I purchased because when I swapped it out for my old amp in the exact same setup, the Hifonics amp made a low buzzing noise through the speakers that my original amp did not make. Amps are much cheaper now than they were 20 years ago but they also seem much more cheaply made as well. Used to be American companies like Rockford Fosgate would design and build everything here in the U.S. now almost every thing is built in China or somewhere and quality has suffered. I would go to CNet and see if they have reviewed any good car amps lately and see what they recommend. They seem fairly unbiased.

description says its a mono amp but why does it have 2 positive and negative outputs?
A shopper on Aug 5, 2015
Best Answer: Hello,

The description says its a monoblock, because it is. The two outputs you see are intended to make installer of multiple subwoofers easier. This is a very common setup for "pro style" monoblocks. Examples below..

Is this amp 2006 Compliant??
Trent on Mar 19, 2015
Best Answer: It does not have the 2006 compliant cert on the box. A few other notables. The description states that 1/0 gauge wire is required for installation. the amp does not accept 1/0 wire. It accepts 4 gauge wire. You would be wise to run 1/0 to a buss bar or distribution block so you 4 gauge wire runs are short. Also it has(2) 70 amp fusees not 80 amp. The Tech support at maxsonics assured me that the amp is RMS power rated where the Zues line is peak power rated. After all of that. I am driving a single Soundqubed HDS312d2 at 1 ohm in a ported box in the trunk of my crown vic and Damn! All I needed was 1200 watts RMS and I think I got it. there is a war going on in there. I would buy the same amp again. I t would be nice if Sonic electronix made some corrections to the description and ran the amp on there own scope dyno. All RMS rated amps on the site should have the video with the amp output test.

Steve Meade did Amp test Tuesday on an elite Brutus BRX1700 and it put out more power in dynamic test wich is basically like listening to music rather than a constant sine wave and the BRX1700 did 1800 watts. so take that to the bank. Steve Meade doesn't mess around with junk.Brutus amps perform.

Best Answer: Hi Jeremy,

What you seek to do Cannot be done - it is physically impossible. Two Dual-2ohm - like you two Soundstream R3.12 - can ONLY be wired to 2ohm final load or 8ohm final load to the BRX1516.1D.

I recently purchased these subs along with a Hifonics 1500W Monoblock Brutus Series Super Class D Amp and I'm worried that It won't be enough bang. I still have my Hifonics 2400W Monoblock Brutus Series Super Class D Amp that powered my 12s but I'm sure that's way too much juice. I downsized due to a new car and trunk space. Was the 1516 a good choice?

Kicker DCompR10
--RMS: 800 watts total
--Impedance: 2 Ohm final impedance at terminal

Hifonics BRX1516.1D
--2 ohms: 900 watts x 1 chan.

It's a perfect match.

i puchased a hifonics brutus brx 1516.1d and paired it with one kicker 15" dvc 4ohm L7 and a sealed box. i have a couple questions, one is i have heard different things about this sub for ported to sealed boxes, that they dont handle power as well in ported boxes and then some say they are louder with less power in a ported box? I understand that there are lots of things can affect this i just wasnt sure if there was truth behind the sub wattage being different in different boxes? as for one of the boxes (ported or vented) being louder in my vehicle i have a 2007 dodge durango which would you recomend for loudest bass? and last question does this subwoofer need to be "broken in"? I never knew if breaking in was true or not for subwoofers and want to get the longest life out of the sub and i greatly appreciate any help and/or recommendations it is awesome to be able to ask professionals questions and get helpful answers thanks again.

Best Answer: -just wasnt sure if there was truth behind the sub wattage being different in different boxes?

There is definitely truth behind it, but if it were an "issue" or something worth frying your brain over then Kicker would have added such specs to their manual/literature. Point being, don't worry about it; the ~900w that your amplifier can Potentially drive with is sufficient for either application. Plus, keep in mind, you aren't going to have the setup opened up at full tilt at all times so the power will fluctuate. Again, it's all relative.

-which would you recomend for loudest bass?

Ported enclosures are intended to be "boomy" , therefore perceived as 'louder' .

-last question does this subwoofer need to be "broken in"?

Ideally, yes there is. We always overestimate and suggest +20hrs of casual listening before really 'rocking out'.

The driver's manual will outline how to wire it in Parallel to a 2ohm load. Here is our rendition:

At the amplifier, pick any pair of opposite polarities (i.e. 1 Positive + 1 Negative) . Yes, ANY PAIR .

i just ordered this hifonics amp (BRX 1516.1d) and i ordered a Kicker 15" dual voice coil 4ohm sub that has a selector on the terminal to change the ohm"s from 2/8 to1/4 (kicker40cwr154) and i have never seen this option on a subwoofer, and i have a ported box, i am curious how to wire the sub woofer to acheive 2 ohm"s so i can get more power from the amplifier? I have hooked up sterio"in the past very basic sub and amp hook ups and was wondering if someone could help with wiring options to get the most power from amp. ANY HELP will be greatly appreciated even describing What parallel or impedance and ohm"s mean? I want to hook up and learn at the same time so i understand different specs for subs and amps for now and the future. i hope someone can help! Thank you.

Best Answer: Hello ,

Unfortunately, we don't have the available space to explain the theories and laws you've requested, but below are two links to get you started. =]

As for your subwoofer question, simply keep the switch at 2ohms if you want a 2ohm final load at the amp . At the amp itself, simply pick any set of 1 Positive and 1 Negative, it doesn't matter which, as long as they are opposite polarities.
