Purchase Guide for the DEH-P7000BT

Overall: Good sound, strong media versatility, nice audio features, poor display design. While it is an excellent choice for those simply wishing to add functionality, it is not the right unit to attach to a custom audio install. The head unit is too complicated for your Mom and not cool enough for your little brother.

The DEH-P700BT is decent mid-range system for the price. I purchased it primarily for its versatility with media as I use an iPod, thumb drives, and MP3 data discs. The rear input USB was also important as I don't care for the aesthetics of having devices and wires plugged into the front of the head unit. I selected the Premier 700BT over the Pioneer 7000BT since it had a higher voltage pre-out for my subs.

The USB and microphone cables were plenty long for just about any installation and the overall build quality of the head unit is good, definitely better materials than the low-end Pioneer units.

There are also some serious deficiencies with this head unit (HU), which I was aware of before my purchase. What I thought would be minor preferences I could easily overlook, have not been as easy to live with as I initially thought. The display text is really as bad as everyone indicates. The text is completely antiquated and reminds me of my first aftermarket HU back in the early 90's. It's really no more of a sophisticated display than a digital clock. It's also difficult to see in direct light as others have indicated.

Illumination is laughable. Without the dimmer functionality, it's glow is so bright it borders on obnoxious at night. There is only one display color - bright blue. All clearly stated in the product specs, but very disappointing to live with as an owner.

Premier really missed it's typical market with this HU, but only because they cut some industry standards such as dimmers,
modern display text, and multi-color illumination in order to include Bluetooth features at this price level.

The "Rotary Commander" does take some minor study to utilize the deeper functionality of the HU. It still becomes necessary to consult the manual when performing more complex tasks like attaching multiple phones, but I think that will be true of all the nextgen functionality being incorporated into HU's.

I consider this an interim head unit. It was all the money I was willing to spend at the time to get as much functionality as possible, particularly BT - and it's a great deal if that's your goal. If you're looking to "build a system," rather than "replace your radio," this is not the right head unit for you.

Does Not Work With LG Cell phones

I purchased this deck to go along with my Lg Env2 cellphone for bluetooth. The two devices will not properly pair. The bluetooth stereo feature of the Env2 pairs with the deck, but it will not pair with the phone feature. Very disappointed. BTW, the deck paired fine with my old Motorola RAZR phone.

Nice

This product works as advertised. Though sometimes, in noisy traffic, it's hard for callers to hear what I'm saying on the bluetooth connection. Not sure the etiology of this. The radio is awesome though and I have no real regrets about buying it.

The Pioneer Premier DEH-P700BT

The Pioneer DEH-P700BT sounds great but is very difficult to program because the directions are hard to understand. I've spent time trying to get it the way I want it but gave up. The face plate is not that easy to put on once removed and after a number of times the display would not always come on, I decided to leave it on defeating the purpose of the removable face. The blue tooth works well if you can get it to sink to your phone I was surprised to have it link up with my first phone, because I wasn’t sure how it happened, but with my new phone I can't get it to sink correctly, so no phone as of yet. Maybe I'll give it another shot. Over all I’d look at a different brand next time.

Nice Unit but it has some bluetooth issues

I really like the unit and all of the functions. I also purchased the XM receiver and it all interfaced perfectly.

The Bluetooth will not work with my Palm Treo 755. I have spoken to Pioneer several times and they state that it is not compatible with the Palm software and some Verizon phones. I would check with the manufacture before you purchase anything to verify if it is compatible. I was hoping that they would design a software patch that would enable me to use the Bluetooth with my phone as this is the main reason I purchased this unit.

Sonic Electronix was great to work with and I would consider them for my next purchase. I don’t expect them to know everything but this was a disappointing purchase since I really needed the Bluetooth functions

hands down best bluetooth deck

i reviewed many decks and have used 4 different ones myself, and every time the person on the other end has a hard time hearing me, they say it sounds like I'm talking into a tin cup. With this deck I ask people if they can tell they are on speaker and they always say no!

Nice Deck!

I have always had the best luck with Pioneer CD Players. This one has definitely not let me down either. The sound can be adjusted many ways and most CDs with scratches will still play. There are not many features to adjust the looks but the basic look is fine for me. I am more interested in getting the sound right.

Great Unit

This Pioneer deck is a real "PRO". Spend some time reading the owners manual (download and print out the manual from the included cd rom) to get all of the benefits from this unit. Once you have learened all that it can do, you will be absolutely thrilled. The am/fm stations come in like no other deck I have ever owned. I will be adding the "HD" radio adaptor soon to get even more quality. I eventually added multi external amp's to my system, but before I did, the deck's factory RMS output was running my four Memphis 5 1/4" speakers at amazing levels! It's "almost" not neccessary to add aftermarket amp's unless you are going for a high end system in your car! The Bluetooth works wonderfull. Find and adjust the Bluetooth "echo" cancelation option to fine tune the deck/microphone to your car. Try to mount the Bluetooth microphone as close as possible to your face to get the best results. (window's up help's a lot too!) This deck looks great, the illumination's are not too bright when night driving. Bottom line is that this deck is a real class act! and once you get used to all the controls you will be glad you made this purchase. Also, spend some time learning the wireless remote. It does almost everything that the face plate controls do! I have an 8gb thumb drive plugged into the USB cable with a music library large enough to last a real long time!, so when I get into the car, I just grab the remote, select my music, set the audio levels and blast!

Great features and quality.

I have had this unit installed for over a year now with absolutly no problems to date. The connectivity is second to none especially for the price. I have both a ipod and a Siruis Stiletto2 connected and you could not ask for more options. Sounds good. Wish it came with Pioneer's steering wheel remote. That would make it best in class.
