Display

Screen Size
This is the size of the monitor on the unit. It is measured diagonally and in inches. The bigger the number the larger the screen.
Widescreen
Widescreen means that the display is wider than the standard display.
Aspect Ratio
The standard ratio of 4:3 (width:height) is one that most are familiar with; however, today we're seeing more models with widescreen 16:9 aspect ratios, which closely matches the most common movie theater screen ratio and HDTV broadcasts too.

Selectable aspect ratio means that the user has the option to choose which aspect ratio they would like. This feature is usually found on televisions.

Input Signal
This feature designates whether the monitor/display receives a digital signal, analog signal, or both types.
Interface Type
This is the type of interface that the LCD display uses to receive the picture.

VGA: An analog interface that uses 15-pins to transfer the video signal.

DVI: A digital interface that can use up to 29 pins to transfer the video signal. Designed for carrying uncompressed digital video data.

S-Video: An analog interface that uses 4 or 7 pins to transfer the video signal.

Composite Video: An analog interface that uses 1 pin plus a screen to transfer a video signal.

Resolution (pixels)
A display's pixel resolution defines its ability to resolve fine details. Digital TVs and projectors measure screen resolution in pixels. The higher the resolution, the more detailed the picture will be.
Brightness
The level of brightness; measured in candela per square meter (cd/m2), a calculation that measures light intensity emitting from the screen. The higher the value, the brighter. Some manufacturers will measure brightness in NIT. These measurements are equal. 1 cd/m2 = 1 NIT.
Contrast Ratio
On a display, the contrast ratio measures the brightest color to the darkest color. A high contrast ratio is usually desired in this value. A high contrast ratio is determined as the gap between the two numbers widens.
Response Time
In relation to LCD monitors, the response time is the amount to time it takes for a pixel to go from black to white, and then return to black again. The time is measured in ms, or milliseconds. The lower the response time, the smoother the display can playback video. A high response time results in less blur and a crisper image.
Viewing Angle (Horizontal)
This is angle at which the LCD display can be viewed horizontally (left to right). The overall angle is measured in degrees.
Viewing Angle (Vertical)
This is angle at which the LCD display can be viewed horizontally (top to bottom). The overall angle is measured in degrees.
Frequency (Horizontal)
Also called the Horizontal Scan Rate. This is number of horizontal lines displayed per second. This is usually measured in Hz.
Frequency (Vertical)
This is also known as Refresh Rate. This is the frequency that the display sends an electron beam from the top to the bottom of the display. Measured in Hz, this is how fast the screen will refresh it's image.
