decent value but wouldnt buy it again
Ive had this radio for about 2 years now. I would say its a good value, but I do have a few complaints about it. First is the messages that pop up at start up. I understand the reason for the warning message, but now I also have an annoying message after it telling me that my map is out of date. So no only do I have to wait and ok the warning message but also a map reminder. So far I've found now way around it other than buying a new map that I have no use for since the updates are in places I never travel. Also about the gps: sometimes there is an extended amount of time after start up until it finds a gps signal. The antenna is on the roof so this shouldn't be a problem, and I don't know how many times I have made wrong turns because the gps on this unit is always ~ 500- 1000 feet off no matter how fast I am travelling. The display is always behind where I'm really at. I have now actually resorted to using a portable garmin nuvi instead of the navigation on this radio. Another thing that I think decreases the value is the fact that if you want bluetooth, hd radio, xm, or reverse camera is that they all have to be added and cost atleast $100 each. I do like the looks of it though, I have it mounted to where that it sits flush with my dash. The ipod control, along with usb drive and sd card navigation is also painfully slow at times. If I had it to do over again I would probably look for something else, but since I already have it, overall I'm happy with it.

found this helpful.Awesome Deck; Awesome Value
I just bought this deck refurbished and installed it myself 4 days ago. I was a professional installer and have been an electrician for over 20 years, so the install was fairly easy for me in my 2006 Ford F-250 Super-Duty. The install kit and harness SE supplied made the install a breeze. I have not installed a backup cam or the OEM steering-wheel remote that I will add later, so I can't comment on those items. I have always had pretty high-end systems in my vehicles, with multiple amps, crossovers and separate speakers and always installed by me.
This is my first navigation deck, as well as my first AV deck and my first double Din deck. I love it!
I searched all over the net and read every review on the GPS decks I was interested in and finally settled on this one for several reasons:
1. FAST navigation
2. Detachable face
3. Lane guidance
4. Price
5. Remote is included
6. 7 band EQ
7. Speed limit posting and warnings
8 Screen size
9. Proximity sensor
10. 2 year warranty for $95 more - Square Trade
11. OEM Steering wheel remote capable
12. USB
13. 12 million POI's
14. Nice-sounding voice
15. etc,etc,etc
The good: gps is awesome; very fast, recalculates almost instantly.
Proximity sensor is nice - keeps the display uncluttered. Detachable faceplate is great for someone like me who go's out quad and dirtbike riding, where your vehicle is left in the middle of nowhere and an alarm would be useless. I loaded a 16 Gb USB flash drive with a ton of songs and they are all accessible - I routed the cable into the glove box and leave the flash drive there. I mounted the GPS antenna inside the dash with velcro to the top of an A/C duct and it works great - never loses signal and shows at least 9 of 12 satellites acquired every time I looked. DVD looks great and screen adjustments work well. POI's have been great so far. Screen size is awesome - I debated whether to get a motorized faceplate as this can be a reliability issue, but the screen size is worth the risk (at least with the extended warranty). Deck seems to power my factory speakers quite well and the 7 band EQ allows you to match the sound to your liking. I didn't want a deck that uses cd maps for navigation - it's great to listen to what you want even when navigating - the voice just chimes in. I may eventually add amplification and a sub, but for now I don't want to get too drastic on modifications to my new truck, so the ability to remove the AV connector from the rear of the deck is nice to avoid the extra clutter behind the unit. There are many other features I like about this unit.
The bad:
Due to the removable face, the unit protrudes out about 3/4" - but it doesn't really bother me - just doesn't look "stock". The USB takes about 30 seconds initially to read the drive, then it works pretty good. When using the USB with Flash drive, folders are a bit of a mess, I will try to change my organization method on the drive - I think it will be fine, but putting your music into a folder with group's name and then into another folder for the album doesn't seem to work very well for viewing the tracks, playback is okay, though. The touchscreen is finicky - especially at the far edges of the screen - I sometimes have to press many times to make the selection. Speed limits are only posted on the highway. Navtec does not have an updated map yet and charges quite a bit for it when they do, I understand - although even here in Las Vegas, with the OUTRAGEOUS amount of construction we usually have, I haven't seen any outdated data.
All in all, I love this unit! I was able to buy a truck that was $15K less than the newer ones with factory GPS, by planning to install my own GPS Deck. I made the right decision. This deck totally rocks. And so does Sonic Electronix - received it in a day and a half with free shipping! I would buy this same deck again in a heartbeat.

found this helpful.DOA at first, but once revived, a great device
I ordered this unit to consolidate the gps and audio system into a combined unit. I had a previous JVC head unit, along with the add-on modules for bluetooth and XM, so this was a no brainer. Which is exactly how the unit arrived- with no brain. The Navigation system had me perpetually located at the White House, and while I was flattered, it made for some awkward trip planning. After nearly two months wait, returning it to the JVC factory authorized center, which had to wait on parts that were shipped from, I finally got the head unit back. It works as described, even better. No complaints, and I have bluetooth connectivity, xm connectivity, ipod, USB flash drive, and SD card connectivity. Highly recommended, once it works.

I would recommend this unit to anyone who wants it all in one nice package. The nav works greats, the interface is very user friendly. I put this in an 01 mustang with a mach 460 system and it sounds , fits and looks perfect. The best part is the detachable faceplate which is great since my car is a convertible. Also, the parking brake bypass on this unit is simple compared to others. This is the best bang your buck.

found this helpful.great nav radio!!!
User friendly everything. Plays DVD's, CD's, and radio while the Nav is on. They said it would not fit the Camaro, I put it in anyway. Good upgrade over old stocker, can not get lost now. Tiltable face, no sun glare, removable face need sub, amp and speakers.

Loving my new system, looks great in my dash. The maps are decent but doesn't have lane guidance for my home city, Milwaukee. Overall it works great and drives my system well but it can be a bit slow to respond sometimes. Overall, a great value.

I love this head unit and all the features that it has. The detachable face is one of the best features, and it works great.

Quality unit, have in both vehicles. Easy to use, I also like mapping is internal so you can use cd drive for DVD or cd at same time. Interfaces work well for Bluetooth and sirius radio. POI bit limited for example no such thing as Home Depot as well no way to shut of reminder screen for new map available requiring two key presses on every start up.

Outstanding GPS always has a hot lock on starting . The directions are clear and accurate . This is one of the few that supports divx video on the usb flash card as well. Stellar usb ipod support for my gen 3 ipod nano out of the box. I did not need anything but the standard ipod cable to listen and fully control my ipod . Clear and large screen with plenty of customization. World class JVC support answered my questions and even called back about a technical question they needed to research. Sales person Brandon made this a very pleasurable experience and was very knowledgeable with the product. Called me back several times about a backup camera to help me make the best choice. Near unlimited expansion with j bus addons. I purchased the refurbished unit.
