I'm sorry I bought it

The stereo was easy enough to install (replaced OEM in 2002 Toyota 4Runner), and looks good. But it won't interface with my iPhone 4 using the original USB cable, another USB cable I purchesed at an ATT store or the recommended Kenwood USB cable - doesn't even recognize the phone. I can connect using the auxiliary cable, but then the remote won't work and I can't recharge the phone. The only reason I purchased a new stereo was to connect my iPhone, so this was a total waste of money.

Looks magnificent

I put this deck in my 05 WRX and it looks great. You can change all the colors on the face which is fun. When I fist turned it on, it was very hard to figure out how to do certain things example, tuning it so that it knows I have subs hooked up, turning certain demo features off etc. but after a while I figured it out and now I just love this deck and how it works.
The iPod control works well compared to my old clarion deck, a bit slow trying to find the artist I want but then again I have a lot of music, so I just unplug it and find the music on the Ipod.
The sound quality is decent, I am confident though that it would be much better if I had aftermarket speakers.
All in all after you get through the confusing acronyms in the manual and figure out the deck, it is quite a good buy. I am very happy with it.

Not Impressed

Stereo worked good for a while. Till I started having problems with my car stereo. It would shutdown and my dash lights would come on. Checked my wiring and was fine. Thought it was something wrong with my car, but turns out it was my stereo. I replaced my stereo, haven't had a problem since. Hopefully Sonic Electronix will replace the bad stereo.

Kenwood DPX503

Purchased to replace the OEM stereo in a 2003 Ford Explorer, keeping the original speakers. The double-din stereo is a great fit. The primary reason for purchasing it was that I digitized all my CDs, and this unit offered a jack, USB, as well as CD with AAC, WAV, and MP3. I use a USB stick almost exclusively.

Sound is more than satisfying, more than meeting expectations. I must agree with other reviews that backlighting is always an issue and the controls, even with the extra knob, are not intuitive. The remote is absolutely needed. Not a very good with the tools, B*** B** installed for the basic stereo price - about $50 + parts (I did not specify that I had a factory subwoofer in my order) - in less than an hour. Sonic was very good to work with, as I had an issue with UPS delivery. Sonic took care of it.

04 Avalanche install

This has worked fine. Use it with my iPhone 3G with the apple usb adapter. It charges it and will cycle through the playlists, artists, etc. Lights are annoying when cycling through colors, but you can set it on a single color. I use it in conjunction with a GM09SR, and I have to reset the adapter every few months. Have to reset the clock and date, but not the stations (weird).

The random song generator is not very random with my iPhone. It tends to play the same "random" order every time the playlist on the iPhone is reset. Not a very good algorithm (but this is a stereo company, not a programming outfit).

solid performer

This is very good head unit with many good features. I love the EQ, the varibale crossover point for low and high, attractive design, the usb and aux ports.....Althougth, manual is fuzzy, the interface is rather confuse and the "breakable" control knob is scary but the reward of its sound is magic that make all its flaws seem to be a minor problem. I know a lot of people did not like its dim display, but once you set everything the way you want it to be why borther to make any adjustment while you are driving. It is not safe any way.
