Video Features

Digital Noise Reduction

This means that the device is able to reduce more noise with the help of a digital processor.

It is a system that tries to filter out “digital noise”, aka picture distortion. This distortion can occur for many different reasons. Anything from the very power used to operate the device to the lights (LED) on the front of the player itself.

x.v. Color

3:2 Pulldown

This means that the devices will enhance the framerate of older videos to play smoothly on the display set.

Film is usually shot in 24 frames per second with 2 fields per frame. One field for the even lines, and one for the odd. The standard NTSC broadcast is 30 frames per second. To achieve this frames have to be created to sustain a smooth image. So out of every 4 frames, a 5th frame is created by combining opposite fields of consecutive frames, in turn creating a new frame so the outcome will be 30 frames from 24.

24p Playback
This means that the device will allow the media to play at it's original recorded framerate. It is a feature that allows the video image to be transferred as it was originally recorded, at 24 frames per second. This feature ensures that you will be watching “movie theater” quality without any “judder” that would occur with some 3:2 pulldown.
Blu-ray discs offer video in "Full HD" at a 1080p resolution for exceptionally vivid, lifelike images. They also allow for higher quality surround sound to be encoded on the discs, as well as much more information due to the data storage capacity on a Blu-ray disc being much larger than a standard DVD. A dual layer Blu-ray disc can fit 50GB of data compared to 4.7GB for a regular DVD!

Exceptional Feature Packed Player

June 6, 2009

This player has several features that makes it an exceptional value. The player has very quick disc load times. It is on par with the PS3 for disc loading. However, the PS3 is a little quicker on highly JAVA intensive discs. For BD-Live discs, this unit has 1GB of memory built in...about time for Bluray need to purchase a thumb drive and have it sticking out of the unit. This model also supports streaming of your Netflix instant queue. Nice feature for Netflix members as you can now watch your programs on the big screen. Also supported is Pandora internet radio. I had never used this before, and was pleasantly surprised with this free service. This player will also stream audio/video from your dnla networked computers. For networking, this model also includes an usb wireless dongle. This is handy if you don't have a wired connection in your home theater.

The design of the player is very sleek with a high gloss finish. The downside to the design is that you can not stack other components on top of this unit. You also have to have ready access to the top of the unit as its controls are located there. The controls are of the soft touch variety like the type used on the PS3.

I must also give kudos to Sonic Electronix for their prompt shipping and fantastic double boxing of my order. This was my first purchase here and I couldn't be more pleased with the transaction.

I recommend the product because it is from Samsung. I did find it to be a little over priced for my taste. The picture and sound is great for both BluRay and DVD though.

Samsung BD-P3600

March 5, 2010

Waited for price to drop before buying ( although further discounts have occurred after I bought this unit). This is state of the art. Love the the wireless internet connectivity. Blue Ray and Dolby 7.1 could not give you a better viewing experience today. For the current price, this is an exceptional value. Downside, IR Remote is somewhat "tunnel vision" and does not operate as well as my Harmoney One (Which is now may primary remote throughout the house).

Excellent Player with up-to-date firmware

January 4, 2010

My BD-P3600 was somewhat glitchy when it was brand new and still running the original firmware. Mostly sound sync problems, but still gorgeous HD video. I connected it to my wireless LAN and found the Pandora streaming worked great and sounded better. Then one day, the player auto-magically downloaded the latest Samsung firmware and asked my permission to install it. I said yes, and since then the player works great - no more glitches. Perfect audio, video and streaming. And, it has a very fast drive too. I love it! Its only flaw is the remote, which I find a bit difficult to use, and counter-intuitive.

Super Value

January 1, 2010

My Samsung BD-P3600 DVD Player was referred to me by one of your sales reps and I am so pleased with it. It completes my ensemble of Samsung components for our home Theater experience. Everything is Samsung so everything works with a single controller. It was easy to hook up and the clarity is wonderful..It's like going to the movies without the expense and hassles. I Love it...
