Very Happy
I kind of went out on a limb ordering this (came in a combo package with CTX-6.5cs the CTX-6.5 and the RE Audio XTX-500.5) I had never heard of Image Dynamics until I had shopped around for a new system for my 04 Trailblazer. I am by no means an audiophile, but I know what sounds good, and these things do. You can definitely push this thing and get your car rumbling if that's your cup of tea. I'm using it for low end reinforcement not showing off(not that I haven't).
I have never owned a subwoofer until this one. I have not been disappointed in my purchase by any means. I have this in the minimum sized enclosure that is recommended in the directions(scosche enclosure from Walmart). This has given me a great amount of low end punch, and low enough response for what I listen to and then some. Since I haven't had a sub before I'm honestly not sure what I should expect out of it. What I do know is that the low end is clean, sounds tight and has a great amount of low end.
Having this sub has truly changed what I expect to hear in most cars. It has been a completely new listening experience for me. It's amazing how much cleaner you can make your system when your 2ways and Components are not used to be the primary low end reinforcement. I highly recommend this sub.

These are a pretty detailed sounding subwoofer. At low volumes you can still here individual bass notes which is what I use as a determining factor when gauging a subs overall performance and what my ears seem to detect as a "quality sub". Many subs only sound good when cranked, and these sound good at ALL volumes from low to flat out pounding. I was actually pretty surprised at how loud and hard hitting these subs are. I unfortunately had just upgraded my sub amp though and I melted the voicecoils on these in about an hour! That is NOT a fault of the subs, it is my own abuse of the product. I would feel very comfortable playing these with up to 300w rms, but not the 750 I had going to each of them... again, I know I had too much power going to them, they were a temporary product for me while I was getting ready to upgrade to higher power handling subwoofers... I think I may try the next higher series of these subs, if they sound as clean and detailed and can handle my amp, they are surely to be the best sounding subs I've ever owned. On pair easily with former JL w'3 in sound quality, just not the power handling. I currently have 2 re-sex12's that POUND but don't have the clarity I'm looking for so I'm thinking of plunking down the funds on the next higher series of image subs based solely on the outstanding detail of these subs I'm writing the review on.
My ONLY complaint about these subwoofers is the plastic cover over the magnets. Mine arrived off of the magnet and had worked loose during shipping. The only thing holding the entire plastic cover over the magnet was a thick washer glued to the bottom of the magnet, and then the cover glued to that washer.. looked pretty hokey cheap to me to do this. The next series up looks to be of a little better build quality in the basket and magnet structure. The frame around the edge of the subwoofer is super thin too, which I found to be quite a turn off.
Overall great sound but build quality was lacking quite a bit on this series. If that doesn't bother you, they would be a great choice for someone with around 200-300w rms per sub used. I had them sealed 1.20 cu ft.

Bought this sub to replace my JL W3 v1 because JL is no longer making dual voice coil subs with the exception of the W6 (not sure why?). Overall, this is a great sub for the price! I agree with one of the other reviews regarding the punch, it does hit more like a 8" sub, most noticeable when listening to Electronic music. This is one area where Image subs beat out JL for a 12". If true depth of sound is what you're looking for, then stick with JL. I don't think anyone beats JL when it comes to the richness of their subs, at least this is my opinion.
Overall I give this sub 8 out of 10. Great sub!
