Speakers are extremely important when it comes to the recreation of high quality sound from CDs, MP3s, radio signals and more. MB Quart engineers built the all new Onyx series speakers from the ground up to be an affordable speaker with the audiophile and performance enthusiast in mind. This series is composed of value-packed 2-way and 3-way speakers that are constructed of the same superior technology in MB Quarts other lines. All Onyx Speakers come elegantly designed with a glossy black piano finish woofer cone and rubber surround. The stamped steel basket touts black high-gloss paint to accent the polypropylene woofer cone and contrasts well with the red progressive cotton spider. Matching these speakers perfectly the line of Onyx Amplifiers shows off the same piano black finish applied to their heatsinks and outer casing. No need to find a match maker, it’s already been made.
You won’t find a lack of features at this price point. Onyx series speakers come equipped with 30mm WideSphere titanium dome tweeter with matching piano gloss finish. The piano black polypropylene cone is suspended by a rubber surround that allows rapid movement to hit all notes. The crossover system has been designed to filter out unwanted frequencies and supply the tweeter and midrange with the power they desire. Tweeter attenuation on the crossover allows 0db, -3db and -6db steps so you can tune your system the way your ears want to hear it. Top it off with a black smoked crossover case to continue with the sophisticated theme and you have yourself Onyx series speakers.

MB QUART ONX 157
Great speaker for the money. Definitely an entry level Quart but great sound reproduction non-the-less. I wasn't going for professional level audio just something better than stock. I have a ford pickup and WOW did these speakers wake up that factory deck. I'd say not only a clarity/detail improvement but a Volume level improvement aswell. The only thing they lack is bass but really its a 5x7 what do you expect. (Also I'd like to add the placement and size of cab are not lucrative to good bass. Oh and they are a million times better than the factory speakers.)

I got these speakers for my "budget" system replacing the stock speaker setup in my '02 Forester. I've been building up my system in stages first replacing the head-end with a Kenwood KDC-X596 (excellent!!!). I've since added the MB Quart ONX216 separates for the front and purchased the ONX157s as fill speakers in the rear doors kick panels. As the stock rear speakers are a bit odd 4-1/2 size, it took some significant cutting and fabrication to fit the space.
The effort was well worth it. As expected, the ONX157 are a far more efficient than the speakers they replaced. The mid-bass response really rounds out the sound, but I have to admit that I'm a bit surprised at the lack of high end reponse from the 30mm tweeters. I'm sure its location so low and forward in the rear doors don't help. Clarity and detail are impressive for a "budget" 2-way. I'm expecting performance to improve once they break in.
I'll be adding an amp (ONX4.60) and an 8" sub to complete the system. I had planned to run the fronts and sub off the amp and continue to run the rears from the receiver (22w), but they may need a bit more power to improve imaging and soundstage.
The ONX157 speakers are a solid value-for-money. The construction and build quality are about as good as it gets. The magnet size is considerable and immediately reassures that you've got a quality product. Highly recommended.

For $35 bucks, you cant go wrong. Just understand they are not worth the "retail" of $130. No way. But solid great sounding unbeatable speakers for $35 any day.
They look great. Sound very good too.
Tested on 100 watts and installed on 22 watt head unit. Sounded great on both.
The magets are huge for the size also.
Cons:
The basket is very, very thin sheet metal. You can actually bend the speaker frame very easy with just your fingers. Yes seriously.
Manufacture quality- well, they are good for the price, but again understand. One of mine had the surround glued to the cone off center and angled. It looks warped. The other one is better but also has its own defects.
They are a little deep, and the front plastic ring is not removable, so bottom mount might be an issue if you need clearance.
Ohh yeah and no grills. Thats ok though. I didnt expect any.
For me, they are fine. They sound 100 times better than stock. Not as good as my good system, but for a work truck, I couldnt be happier for the cost.
Conclusion. Probobly the best $35 speakers out there. For a little bit more though, you can find a better product but at this price, very good.

Average speaker at a good price. Decent mid and low, but a lot of distortion with vocals. It also won't fit in the front doors of a 2012 Mazda 3

The $35 pricetag should have told me, but sometimes you get more than you pay for in car audio. This however is one of the cases where you pay for what you get...maybe a little less $35 gets you $35 (retail) speakers. They sound okay and that's really all I'm asking of them. I'm using 2 channels of a head unit (22W RMS reported) to use these for rear fills while the front satellites are amped. Actually once I got all my gains set up, I can't really hear these. But when I could, when everything was running off the head unit, they provided decent fill.
I was initially attracted by the construction materials & that I had owned Quart stuff in the past. I discovered on delivery however that Quart isn't the same company they used to be. The mounting tab metal is so thin it made me nervous handling them. That same material makes the basket as well - which is sort of curious. This driver flexes with great ease. I realize that once mounted the flex will be minimized, but with the shape of the basket so easily changed, so goes the shape of the cone.
If I had this do again, I'd leave these on the shelf. They sound okay and will work for a pair of shot factory replacements, but I'm having a hard time recommending these to anyone...even considering pricepoint.

The highs have trouble coming out clear when turned up. Mids and lows are alright. Still a lot better than stock.

I put 4 of these 5x7's in my 2012 F150 Supercrew pushed by a Pioneer AVH-X6700DVD. Sounds so good! Really loud and super clear. Don't let the price fool you. These speakers sound great! I wouldn't hook them up to an amp because of their low wattage requirement. Sounded good with the factory head unit. Even better with Pioneer DVD player.
