AudioControl Store

For over two decades, AudioControl has been designing and manufacturing award-winning autosound products at our factory located in the rainforests of the Pacific Northwest. During this period, countless sound-off winning contestants have chosen AudioControl products to give them the competitive edge. "Can you really win without AudioControl", was part of an article written commenting on competition winning systems. Nothing sounds better than an awesome recording played back on a kickbutt system. Unfortunately, the acoustics of your vehicle can take away from your systems performance. While AudioControl products do not change the laws of physics (although they act like they do), autosound enthusiasts have long known that AudioControl products "make good stereo sound better".

Three.2 - In-dash Equalizer/Crossover with Auxiliary Inputs

If you want great sound and love to "tweak" your system, then you will truly appreciate the AudioControl THREE.2. Affectionately called the "EQ on steroids", the THREE.2 is a high-end pre-amplifier that offers equalization and crossover controls for enhanced sound quality. Multiple audio inputs, both front and rear allow for maximum connectivity with all of your favorite source units.

While being housed in a compact ½ DIN sized chassis, the THREE.2 is truly a feature-laden processor. The THREE.2 starts with four stereo equalization filters including AudioControl's proprietary Para-BASS controls, which give subwoofers extra kick and detail as needed. It also features a 4 channel, 2-way, 24 dB/octave car audio crossover with a fader. To round out the package the THREE.2 also includes a subwoofer level control, master volume control, and the ability to select the back lighting illumination color between Cool Blue and Hot Red.

Given that many of today's audio enthusiasts like to carry their music with them, the THREE.2 is equipped with dual, 3.5mm auxiliary input jacks located on the front and rear of the chassis. This helps facilitate the permanent installation of cabling or lets a user plug in their portable audio device on the fly. Like all AudioControl autosound products, the THREE.2 is built in our factory in the Pacific Northwest, USA and carries a full 5-year parts and labor warranty when installed by an authorized dealer.

Key Features:

Graphic Stereo Equalization:

The THREE.2 turns the dashboard of your car into a mini-mixing board, just like that in a recording studio. The THREE.2 has three frequency controls set at 125Hz, 1.25KHz, and 10KHz respectively. The frequencies were selected to provide you with a just enough control to make dramatic improvements in any system.

You want bass, we got bass. This specially designed equalizer control lets you adapt the bass response of any system to your listening desire. Given all of the various types of music combined with numerous possible bass response anomalies in every vehicle, a single control for bass just doesn't cut it. It's like painting a picture with only one color... BORING!

Input Selection:

The THREE.2 provides a "Main" RCA input on the back panel of the unit. It also provides two choices for an Auxiliary input. One is on the back panel for a permanent Aux-in, and the other is located on the front panel. If you just want to be able to plug an iPod in on occasion, then you can use the front panel 1/8" input. Also, the THREE.2 Aux-ins have been optimized with extra gain to compensate for weak signals from iPods and other MP3 players.

24dB/Octave Linkwitz Riley Crossover:

What is the benefit of fine tuning your system if you cannot accurately route the proper frequencies to the proper amplifier channels? The programmable audiophile crossover in the THREE.2 is the same crossover in many other award winning AudioControl components. Know who else gives you a 24dB Linkwitz-Riley in their in-dash EQ? Nobody! This is also a far cry from the wimpy crossovers that find their way into some amplifiers these days.

Pre-Amp Line Driver:

Talk about your ironies. Amplifiers require a high voltage input signal (generally 2 to 5 volts) to operate with maximum dynamic range and the best signal-to-noise ratio. On the other hand, typical source units only produce 1 to 2 volts, if your lucky. In a system where the source unit is located in the front of the car and the amplifier(s) are located in the rear, the length of the connecting cables can have an negative impact on the strength of the signal. The THREE.2 includes a line driver that takes the weak output voltage of a head unit and increases it 20dB (up to 13 volts peak) and then delivers it downstream to the amplifier inputs.

  • Stereo graphic equalization
  • In-dash Pre-Amp controller

Equalizer Specifications

Type of Equalizer
This determines the way the equalizer processes the signal from the source unit. A parametric equalizer allows to you adjust the center point of the frequency band you are adjusting as well the bandwidth which can be narrowed or widened. A graphic equalizer has fixed frequency bands and bandwidth and only the frequency bands can be adjusted. A digital equalizer uses a software program to tune your system.
A graphic equalizer typically has more adjustable bands and is less expensive, whereas a parametric will have fewer bands but offer a greater level of control and provide more tuning options. Digital equalizers will tune your system with the most detail and precision but require a computer and are typically a little higher in price.
Equalizer Bands
The number of graphic or parametric equalizer bands the receiver has. The better the EQ, the more likely you will be able to "tweak" your sounds to your desire.
3 band + Para-BASS
Equalizer Frequencies
The frequency range that allows control of the center frequency of each equalization band.
40 - 10,000 Hz
Built-in Bass Reconstruction
Bass reconstructors, or bass enhancers, improve low frequency reproduction in a car audio system with at least one subwoofer. These bass expander products will help your subs produce accurate bass thumps.
Line Driver
A line driver is a small amplifier used to support the strength of the audio signal coming from the source unit.
Speaker Level Inputs
Speaker level inputs are commonly referred to as high-level inputs and vice versa. This input type allows you to get your audio signal directly from the speaker wire in your vehicle, instead of using RCA cables. The advantage of this is factory integration, as most stock radios do not have RCA outputs to run amplifiers.
Total Number of Inputs
This is the total number of input connections that go into the unit.
Total Number of Outputs
This is the total number of output connections that the unit will produce.
Button Color
Refers to the color of the physical buttons on the unit.
Blue or Red
Signal Boost/Cut
The available signal boost or cut for each of the frequency bands.
12 dB
Max Output Level
The maximum level (in volts) of signal output. A higher level will increase the clarity and boost your signal.
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
20 - 20,000 Hz
THD (Total Harmonic Distortion)
The amount of change in harmonic content of the signal as it is amplified. A lower figure indicates less change and a more accurate amp. THD below 0.10% is inaudible.
Signal-to-Noise Ratio
This spec compares the strength of the signal to the level of background noise. A higher value indicates less background noise.
-110 dB
The width of the item from left to right (side-to-side) measured in inches.
The height of the item, measured from top to bottom, in inches.
The front-to-rear depth of the item, in inches. If the item is angled or slanted, this value is the bottom measurement.

Flexible Pre Amp - Line Driver - XOver

September 2, 2013

Only requires Front Two Channels for input from the source unit then has Front, Rear and Sub Woofer Left & Right outputs. The Sub Woofer output includes an electric (active 24 dB) crossover at 90 HZ and can be changed out to 30 HZ - 3500 HZ or can by-passed. Line Driver up to 13 v and two 1/8 Aux. plugs, one on the front and one on the back for Ipod or other devices. I use this pre amp along with the Audio Control 6XS for a 4-way active crossover system.

Much control for no much $$$

June 24, 2013

I recently installed this unit in my Dodge Challenger. I have used many AudioControl products in the past but had never used this particular "in dash" piece. Let me tell you, it gives you a very good command of whatever music you are listening too. The adjustments are very accurate and the master volume control is a great feature. The sub control and gain control are great as well. You will not be disappointed with this EQ. Pair it with the in dash Epicenter and your subs will do more than you ever imagined.

Hi there, i recently installed the three.2 in my mercedes c-class, my head unit is a kenwood DDX5901HD and i am using the by-pass option on the stereo so i have the option to only use the equalizer and all the functionality of the processor,i also have a mono-block amp and a 4 channel amp with a component speaker system in the front and full range 3way speaker in the back with 3-10" subs, my question is: why when i turn the equalizer off i fell like i get more juice and no distortion, but if i have the equializer on sometimes at high volumes i start to hear and smell the bad output, does it have to do with the gain in one of the components ? should i turn the equalizer on the stereo on instead and combine both? my speakers are JL audio and i know they can handle the power, any suggestion will be highly appreciated, i love quality no volume. thank you for your time.

Best Answer: Hello Juan,

Without a hands-on - and to some degree a 'ears-on' - assessment of the setup, its going to be impossible for us to narrow down your issue. With that said, it sounds like you may be 'over boosting' the available frequency range. This 'guess' is quickly shot down if you are using the EQ to bring DOWN peaks, rather than build them, so we suggest having the setup tuned in (along with the amplifier(s)) by a professional.
