Nice but quirky

I put one of these in my 1992 GMC Safari. Install was fairly simple and painless. Routing the remote mic took a bit of time. I put it in the top of the instrument cluster opening and had to snake the wire past the heater/AC controls. Otherwise the kit supplied with the 6630 fit quite well.

I am very happy with the sound and responsiveness of the unit. I did not add a Sub so I rely on the original locations of the stock speakers (I did replace the actual speakers).

The automatic sync with the Bluetooth and my phone works great! I find people complain that it is difficult to hear me on my cell when I am driving with an open window or when moving at freeway speeds. I can only assume that the sensitivity of the mic to higher frequencies causes this.

The USB interface took some time to master. The unit reads the files on a USB drive in the order they were written to the drive, not in any logical way like filename. I had to get a piece of software that would re-organize my flashdrive so that the MP3 Data would determine the playback order by the 6630 as artist (alphabetical), album (alphabetical), and track#. It is a bit of a pain to have to run this everythime I add to my flashdrive library but...

The biggest problem I have encountered has been the tendency of the 6630 to lock up for no apparent reason. It has happened 3 times. The unit shuts off normally but then will not power up again without my having to "reset" the system. This puts me back to the factory defaults so all the radio presets and the EQs have to be recreated. Since I see this same complaint in other reviews I believe it is a fault of the unit, not the installer.

For the money and everything else, I can live with it.

On the Radio

Sound, looks and price can't be beat. The included bluetooth is a must have for todays' driving. Easy to use larger control buttons a definite plus. Would absolutely replace another stock radio with this one when needed. Great doing business with Sonic.

Great bang for the buck

Needed a bluetooth setup in my work truck, after trying the ear models that are irritating, and the visor models having low volume (road noise to loud) . I picked up this dual unit with 3 great reviews, bluetooth works great, you can hear and be heard very well. You can dial numbers using the remote, auto connects bluetooth for music, sound quality is better then stock, but not as good as a top brand like Pioneer. the unit seems a little under powered also. But you can not knock a unit for this price with all the cool features it has. I would definitely recommend this product. Great bang for the buck

Not A Bad Deck At All....

I've had this radio for about 8 months now, and it's still going strong. I've had real expensive radio's and I've had cheap radio's, and for the money, this radio is definitely worth the buy, especially if your on a budget. The best feature about this radio has got to be the Bluetooth. I hooked up my Droid Razr to it, and now every time I get in the car it will automatically hook up to it, and I can make/receive phone calls crystal clear, but the most important feature, is I listen to my tunes. I use songs I have downloaded, Pandora Radio, watch movies, and anything else I might feel the need to at the time. I thought that this radio might not be the greatest when I bought it, but I have yet to regret it. The sounds are crystal clear, and not distorted even when turned all the way up. I'm still working on building my system in my car, but I have impressed many, many people, and turned many heads with this setup. It's an older car, but installation was a cinch, and maybe took me 30-45 minutes total, taking the dash apart, and installing the mount, wiring harness, Bluetooth, etc., and putting it all back together (I've been installing systems and have been an IT professional for over 20 years). My front speakers are still stock, but with this head unit, tuning it to give crystal clear sound was a breeze, while still keeping the rest of the speakers sounding great too. I'm running 2 500w Ken-wood 5-way 6x9's in the rear, and 2 Kicker CompVX 12" 1,500watt (Peak) (750watt RMS though it is higher than that I've tested) DVC Subs on an 1,800w Ken-wood D-Mono Amp running at 2 Ohm Stable in a Kicker Comp Ported Box. Did all the wiring and tuning myself, and silicone the rear tail light assembly to get rid of the rattling, so it's good clean bass. This system hits very hard, and I love the options I have to tune the rear subs volume and whatnot without compromising the overall sound quality, and volume of the entire system. I did have a couple cons with this product, is the lack of equalizer option, which is only a 3 band Hi, Mid, and Low, which cannot be tuned separately from the rear/sub (should be a 5 band I think), and the fact that you can't tune the sub through the head unit to a certain frequency like 40hz through 120hz or so (I ended up just tuning the amp to around 75 - 80hz to give it the best round bass for the different types of music I listen to, and where it seemed to hit the hardest). Another con I had was for some reason about a month after I got it (and this ended up happening like 2 or 3 other times) where the whole unit locked up, and I had to do a factory reset to get it to work again. Around this same time (my third con) the remote control quit working, which I believe is the receiver end, and not the remote itself. I only used the remote once, before it crapped out on me, and the system locked up. Other than that though, I would definitely recommend this system to anyone looking for a good sound quality (Especially since the 60Wx4 Peak, 18W RMS is better than most head units, which usually offer less wattage and RMS per channel), and the price is not bad either. Hope this helps.
