Happy with everything except FM reception
Bought a factory refurb JVC to replace a Jensen touch-screen unit that tragically died on me (a VM9324).
The top priorities for me when shopping for this radio were:
1. front USB and A/V jacks
2. HD radio
3. knobs and buttons (no more touch screens for me!)
I am happy with the look/feel of the radio -- it is easy to use and does everything I expected. I mostly use the front-panel A/V and USB jacks -- the USB jack charges my phone while I listen to internet radio (Sky.FM) via the A/V jack. The JVC works flawlessly for this! The USB port has plenty of juice to keep the phone running when 4G and GPS are active at the same time (the Kenwood stereo in my wife's car can't do this, it keeps shutting down the USB port when the current draw from the phone is too high).
The stereo sounds pretty good from the A/V jack, CD player, and on HD radio... however, the sound quality from standard FM stations does not compare to my old Jensen VM9324. Sound from standard FM stations is dull and seems to lack stereo separation.
My biggest disappointment with the JVC is that the FM reception is not as good as my Jensen -- stations that my Jensen picked up with no problem, this JVC seems to have trouble with. Same car, same antenna. But since I listen to internet radio 75% of the time, this has not been a "deal-breaker" for me.
Overall I am happy, since I only paid $95 (for a factory refurb). I'm not sure I would be as happy if I had paid list price, since I think there are probably better radios out there for $150+.
