General Features

Color Type
This will denote whether the displayed image is color or black & white.
Night Vision
Some cameras are equipped with additional lighting for improved performance in low light conditions. LED lights will drastically improve range visibility and maintain a color image. Infrared LED lights have an even further visible range but lack a color image; this is a true night vision feature.
Infrared LED's
Sensor Type
Currently, cameras will typically use a CMOS, CCD or CMD sensor type. A CMOS camera is your most common type due to its low cost and quality performance. CMOS cameras also use much less power than a CCD but are more susceptible to noise interference. A CCD camera is much more sensitive than a CMOS camera so the pictures are cleaner and less grainy and perform much better in low light situations. A CMD camera is right in between the two as it has a better image quality over CMOS cameras and a comparable picture quality to the CCD cameras without being quite as expensive.
Video Output
This is how the video signal is outputted to the receiver. Most items use RCA composite cables, while other units use wireless transmitters or other video cables.
RCA Composite Cable
Mounting Type
This is the manner in which the unit is attached to the vehicle.
Remote Mount
Adjustable Tilt
This means that the item can be tilted and adjusted to achieve the perfect view for the user.
Weatherproof items are protected from the elements. They usually are treated or coated with special materials that help protect them. Normally, weatherproof units are sealed to keep any water from getting inside.
Reverse Image
Mirror Image is feature which horizontally flips the camera's image before it is output to a display. This is necessary when the camera is being used as a backup camera so that the orientation of viewed image is the same as if the driver is looking in a rear view mirror. Cameras without this feature are to be used to view images in front of the driver.
Parking Guidelines
Parking guidelines is a feature which displays guidelines over the image from the camera to assist the driver with parking. The guidelines help to determine distance between the camera and an obstruction.
Built-in Microphone
Some cameras have built-in microphones in order to provide an audio feedback of the environment outside, or to record audio when using the camera for security purposes.
Primary Color
This is the main color of the item.
Frame Material
This is the material that the license plate frame is made of.
Camera Housing Material
This is the material that the housing of the camera is made out of.
Minimum Illuminance
Essentially the amount, or intensity of, the visible light required for a clear picture. A lower Lux rating designates a camera that will function better with less light.

Appears to be a good product at a very reasonable price. It has not been in service long enough to determine longevity etc.

Good Backup camera

June 15, 2013

This product was purchased as a gift for my daughter in conjunction with a new headunit for her car. It was easy to install and worked perfectly from the start. Even with a minor incident involving damage to the back bumper did not stop it from working.

Great value

December 16, 2012

This is the best rear view camera you can buy for the money.
At first I was sceptic all about drilling a hole in the body but once I installed the camera I was thoroughly please. The image is not super sharp but clear enough to get the job done. The specs say the image is B & W but mine is color in the day and night. Also before you install it, so yourself a favor and get a better o-ring. The one that comes with it is flimsy and this aids in the waterproofing of the camera. Mine disappeared after a week and condensation built up in the lense from the rain and cold. I put in a thicker o-ring and it all dried up when the weather got better. Now I have no problems. Plus you don't water in the body of your vehicle depending on where you install it.

Good but could be better.

September 25, 2013

This unit did not fit in the keyhole of my car mainly because it could not be made level with the included 'angle' pieces. I would have liked pieces with sharper angles to accommodate angled trunk lids. Ended up installing it in the rear bumper and it works great, gets a bit too hot for my liking with constant power hooked up to it so I wired it to the reverse lights for power. However this means I cannot use it when not in reverse. I would have liked a separate hookup for the camera power and for the IR lighting.

pretty impressive for the price

February 17, 2013

I'm sure better cameras exist but I was very impressed by this cheap unit. The included hole saw was garbage, I used a die grinder to make my mounting hole. Wiring was easy, resolution is more than adequate to see what you're doing, field of view is nice and wide. Compensation for low light usage is surprisingly good.

Unless you want something super fancy and HD, this little guy will work very well.

Someone that has actually used this: Does it have a true 170° horizontal FOV? I bought a cheaper cam on eBay that said 170, but was actually 120°...just checking!

Best Answer: This was a really good camera, it definitely was 170. For me, the only problem was that it wasn't very durable. It wasn't working for some reason and at first glance everything looked fine but when I went in for a closer look, there was no more glass. The lens shattered but, the night vision worked great and the overall view was good. I'd get this again but on my 06 F-150 I didn't have a place to mount this in the middle of the plate and it was on the side of the plate which threw everything off.

What is the resolution?
It says it can replace the factory license plate light. More information please, install manual?
The picture shows two video plugs, so does it have two Outputs? One going to backup display and perhaps one going to a dvr to record all the time?
Steve G on Aug 3, 2014
Best Answer: Hi,
The camera I received is very blurry and the color is bad. I only found this once I had installed it. I have not had the time to try and hunt down a company with a quality camera. As it still show images when I back up it suffices. The two plugs: One is video, the other is power.
