Pretty nice~

February 26, 2012

Well, I purchased 2 of these about a year ago. I got them because they were oddly cheap. But the ones I actually purchased are pushing about 550 watts per into them. So it's roughly 1k watts. And for being 8's. They kick hard. They usually punch harder then 10's and even a single 12. But for the price, I wouldn't pass them up if you're just starting out w/ subs.

DUB8AT - Nice sound in a small, attractive package

January 23, 2006

Anyone familiar with DUB Magazine shouldn't be surprised at the esthetic design of the DUB8AT, a tube subwoofer offering from DUB Mag Audio (Audiobahn). The chrome grill, metal "DUB" logo plate, and blue LED status lights and accent lights on the remote bass control knob are all exactly the type of trimmings one would expect from a DUB product. Measuring about 9.5" x 9.5" x 23", it easily fits within the passenger area of many vehicles and looks good enough to be installed as such.

As for sound, it rounds out the low-end nicely as installed in my '99 Cougar, a hatchback. Sharing the same airspace as my "trunk" I'm sure I get a better response from this little box than someone with a separated trunk/passenger area would hear. I have it set with the gain about half-way up and the crossover adjusted to about 100Hz, so it's capable of more than I ask of it. With this setup, though, it makes Alice In Chains MTV Unplugged sound magical, and at the same time gives a nice thump to Linkin Park and the local rap station. It doesn't wake the neighbors, and I don't turn heads, but I'm very pleased with how much more complete it makes my audio experience in my car.

All necessary wiring (RCAs, power, ground, remote, speaker wire for use with high-level inputs) is included, as are the fuses. Also included are various zip-ties and shrink wrap for wiring, and two belt-harnesses for installation, which is a snap short of drilling a hole in your firewall for the power wire.

This product is essentially the same as the Audiobahn ATB8AT, though the tuned ports face differently (they are speaker-side in the DUB8AT, opposite side on the ATB8AT). I point this out only because I consistently saw the ATB8AT for sale for about $20-30 more.

If you want earth-shaking bass that will set off car alarms as you drive through parking lots, this won't do it (nor will any other tube subwoofer, for that matter). I was looking for a boost in the low end for my car's stereo without breaking the bank and without overtaking my entire trunk. The DUB8AT perfectly fit the bill. My ratings are with respect to other tube-subwoofers out there, as there really is no reason to compare it to a set of 12s or 15s. The "3" rating for durability is only because I've only logged about 20 hours on it. It feels solid and is constructed well, but electronics could fail without warning, so...
