    Subwoofer Specifications

    Subwoofer Series
Each subwoofer manufactured is part of a series. This is the name of the subwoofer's series.
    Type-R (Alpine)
    Subwoofer Size
Refers to the diameter of the subwoofer, measured in inches.
    10"
    Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
    3000 watts
    RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
    1000 watts
    Voice Coil(s)
Dual voice coil subs have more wiring flexibility than single voice coils subs; however, single voice coil subwoofers provide easier hookup options for wiring multiple subwoofers in parallel or series. You may also run a dual voice coil (DVC) sub in parallel, series, or combination. A quad voice coil has four voice coils and is equal to two dual voice coil subwoofers as far as wiring goes.
    Dual
    Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
    2 ohms
    Voice Coil Diameter
Diameter of voice coil, usually measured in inches.
    2.6"
    Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
    26 - 300 Hz
    Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
    82 dB
    Xmax (millimeters)
Typically measured in millimeters, the Xmax value is the measure of a speaker cone's maximum excursion in one direction while maintaining a linear behavior.
    20 mm
    Subwoofer Design
This is the design of the subwoofer or the opening of the subwoofer enclosure. Each design has it's own benefits, whether it is a square, circle, or oval.

Round/Circle: This is the typical and common subwoofer design. They have a round cone and are a circle in design.

Square: These woofers are able to achieve a greater cone area in a smaller space. Because of the greater surface area, some square subwoofers will be louder than a round subwoofer of the same size.

    Round / Circle
    Main Cone Color
This is the color of the speaker's or subwoofer's cone.
    Black
    Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
    Kevlar Reinforced Pulp (Paper)
    Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
    Santoprene Rubber
    Magnet Structure
Defines the overall structure of the subwoofers magnet.
    Double Stacked
    Subwoofer Grille
Most subwoofers are able to accommodate a universal grille; however, some subs include a grille and others have a specific, optional grille available for purchase separately. If "yes", then the subwoofer includes a grille. If "optional (sold separately)" the matching grille will need to be purchased in addition to the sub.
    No
    Re-Cone Kit Available
Some higher end subwoofers have replaceable cone assemblies. In case of a blown woofer, a recone kit allows for a simple replacement, as opposed to purchasing an entire new subwoofer.
    No

    Recommended Enclosure Specifications

    Recommended Enclosure Type
This is the recommended type of enclosure that the subwoofer should be installed into. Some subwoofers are specially designed for particular enclosures.

Sealed: These enclosures completely enclose the air inside the box. These boxes produce a tight bass.

Ported/Vented: These enclosures have a slot of air to escape from the box. The result is a sound that has more "boom".

Bandpass: These are a combination of both sealed and ported enclosures. They can be very efficient, but require tuning for the best response.

    Ported / Vented
    Sealed
    Minimum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
    .58 cubic feet
    Maximum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
    .58 cubic feet
    Minimum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
    1.1 cubic feet
    Maximum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
    1.1 cubic feet
    Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
    5-7/8"
    Cutout Diameter
The actual diameter of the hole you will need to cut out if you are creating a new mounting location for this speaker, or if you are mounting a subwoofer in a box.
    9-3/16"

    Electromechanical Parameters

    Free-Air Resonance (Fs)
The free-air resonance frequency of the subwoofer, measured in Hz. At this frequency the weight of the moving parts is perfectly balanced with the subwoofers suspension system.
    31 Hz
    Equivalent Compliance (Vas)
This is the amount of air that has the same stiffness as the subwoofers suspension. The greater the rating, the lower the stiffness and larger recommended enclosure. It is measured in Liters.
    18 liters
    Total Speaker Q Value (Qts)
This is the subwoofers relative damping (Q) at the resonance frequency (Fs), including all dimensionless losses. Essentially, a high Qts value (closer to 1.0) means the subwoofer is great for sealed enclosures and a low Qts value (closer to 0) means the woofer is great in vented enclosures. A Qts of around 0.45 means the woofer will work decently in either enclosure type.

    Excellent Sub

    February 15, 2014

This sub is perfect for someone looking for an SQ application. Have used it in a 0.77 cu FT box and sounded great. Now currently in a ground shaker 1.1 cu FT ported enclosure. still sounds good but now I can "feel" the music.

    GREAT BASS

    July 6, 2014

Got this for my Chevy Trailblazer and it does the job well. I had to turn the bass down on my Kenwood DNX690HD to a negative 8 and my 17 year old daughter wants to all way drive my truck now. I'm looking forward to ordering more things from Sonic Electronix in the future.

    April 28, 2014

I bought this sub and powered it with a Kicker 1500.1 amp at 2 ohms. It's also in a ported box. This sub is serious! I wasn't sure if I would be satisfied with a 10" seeing how I've always had 12's or 15's. I'm not disappointed and very satisfied.

    Bangs hard. Real hard. Mmmmm

    February 27, 2013

Been using Type R's for a few years now, and this one blows the doors off of the past models. Flexes windows, sets off alarms, and makes panties drop.

Great sound quality, and it really hits the good low frequencies well. Wouldn't pick anything over this.

Have it installed in a 350 with a custom box, and it's more than enough.

Quality subs at an affordable price!

    September 19, 2013

I have owned quite a few different brands in subwoofers. My latest were AQ HDC3's, NVX VCW, and now these Alpine type R gen 5's. I guess I'm a little bit of an addict when it comes to owning speakers. Anyhow, I built a ported box for 3 of these 10's, and they sound really nice, a good combo between SQ and SPL. I am going to purchase a bigger amp, crescendo BC 3500d or a fosgate t 2500 bdcp to really make these subs come alive! I can't wait to hear the. On 3k rms! Great subs at an even greater price!

Cannot go wrong with buying these... fairly priced along with great quality and condition of the Type R makes this a subwoofer to own. I'm very pleased with what 2 10" Type R's on 1000 watts each can do in the back of my car.

Just what I was looking for

    December 6, 2016

I have a large SUV and have tried various subs. Mostly a single 12". I went form a RE Audio SEX 12 V.2 to a pair of these and the difference is impressive. Much tighter and deeper bass. Hits way harder, too. They're very well built as you'd expect from Alpine's top sub. I have them on the new Alpine 1200 watt mono amp at 2 Ohms and it has very good synergy.

    Pleasantly Surprised Me

    May 25, 2016

These 10s are great. Coming from mostly running 12s and 15s of various brands (Kicker, JL, Sundown, Fi, etc) in ported boxes, I finally had to downsize when I got a crewcab pickup and could not compromise the rear seats because of my family. For the longest time I didnt put anything in my truck because of the space constraint under the rear seats. I finally bit the bullet and bought a couple SA-8s and made a custom ported box for them. They sounded pretty good and got real low but they just didnt have the cone area to feel it like I was used to.

I then again gave up for awhile until I decided to give these a try. While they are not nearly as loud or low as a single Fi Sp4 15 I have had in the past. They definitely hold their own. I have about 1200 watts rms a piece (with gains set conservatively) on them and they take it like a champ. They are very musical and have great punch. They are in a ported box with 1.1 cubes each and are tuned to 38hz (a little higher than I am used to) but definitely get the job done.

I owned 2 of the 12" subs. I know they are good. I have a small enclosure. this sub is right in the middle of the specs of the box.

i have a pioneer d9601 amp and want 1 10' woofer to use with it. I was looking at this sub,to run alone at 1 ohm. But some reviews I have seen have stated the R series subs will not handle much more than 600 watts . So should I get a 10d4 and run it in 2 ohms , or just look at a different sub altogether ?

Best Answer: I have 2 alpine 10" type R hooked up to a Rockford 500 watt amp in a FOX ACOUSTICS LLC ported box and AWESOME! I thought I would need a bigger amp but this setup is super loud. it vibrates the outside mirror. this subs are amazing they are loud clean they hit hard and low. the only sub I have heard that can hold a candle to them are the kicker SL7. make sure you have a good box it can make a all deference in the world. hope this helps.

Will this box hold the Alpine SWR-10? I read from a review that the air space is less than advertised, and the alpine calls for a low .5 cu ft. sealed. My concern is about the magnet. It's huge, I already have one of these in a 1.1 ported box. Thanks.

    Best Answer: Hello,

I can't answer your question directly, I do not own the box in reference " Belva MDFS10".

However, I usually trust reviews and if the airspace is less than advertised I would stay away.
Also, I prefer ported over sealed; I liked the punchy hard hitting bass, not the subtle "clean" bass from sealed.

I use my SWR-10D2 in a custom box "LAB SlapBox 1.30 ft^3 Ported MDF Enclosure" ordered from California. People are in disbelief that I have one 10" in my trunk; I have my SWR-10D2 running on a Kenwood KAC-9106D @ 2-ohms 1,000 watts!

will this sub fit 75 Cu Ft approx 6.10" mounting depth enclosure? they recomend jl subwoofers but they are to expensive. if more info about enclosure is needed
    A shopper on Oct 19, 2014
    Best Answer: Hello,

I assume you mean .75ft^3 - because 75 would be HUGE!!. You also did not specify if we are talking about a Ported or Sealed enclosure. If ported, .75 is a bit smaller than Alpine recommends, but can be remedied with a bit of Polyfil. If sealed, .75 is a bit larger than Alpine recommends, but the displacement of the subwoofer should take care of that, making it a great fit. The depth is not a concern, because the sub is asking for 5-7/8" .

hi i have a 2014 f150 crew cab was tinking about replaces the front an rear door speakers with nvxvsp68s running ppi s320.4 on them a two alpine type r 10s on two ppi a 600.2 amps . Would that be the right sized door speakers an also would i have enough room under rear seat for the type r'rs?
    A shopper on Sep 22, 2014
    Best Answer: Hello,

5x7/6x8 are the correct size for you vehicle. Room under your seat for the SWRs might be tricky; Typically, pre-fab enclosures for your truck are limited to ~ 5 1/4" for depth, so check with your installer/box-maker/manufacture of box.

On the topic of the SWRs; We suggest going with Two Precision Power PPI S850.1D and a pair of SWR10D4 or just ONE NVX JAD1200.1 with a pair of SWR10D4 . Monoblocks for subs are a far mor practical option.

Hi i have a 2014 f150 crew cab what size door speakers come stock also is there enough space under rear seats to place two tens or two twelve insh alpne tyle r's?
    A shopper on Sep 18, 2014
Best Answer: I had trouble finding my speaker sizes for my 14 mustang. Owners manual probably best for that. As for tens of twelves you will need about 1 cubic foot for the twelves and a little less for the tens. If you have that, then you can fit them in.
