Premium is the best choice when considering the finest in top of the line speakers for your system. The Premium components and coaxials feature the 40mm Titanium WideSphere tweeter and utilize a composite basket for reduced vibration and resonance especially at critical mid-range and mid bass vocal frequencies. The Premium series also rely on the same cone, surround and voice coil technology that makes MB Quart speakers the standard for critical listening. The midrange component employs a phase plug at the center of the cone to prevent upper midrange frequencies from canceling each other out.
Installation of high-end audio components in a car typically requires compromise due to the inconsistent nature of the environment. One issue in particular is tweeter placement. The ongoing struggle to find the correct balance between on-axis and off-axis placement greatly defines the system’s ability to offer proper staging and imaging.
The engineers at MB Quart recognized this issue and worked tirelessly on a solution that would offer predictable high-end performance in nearly any mounting location. The result is the artfully crafted WideSphere tweeter by MB Quart. Every WideSphere tweeter is designed to provide equal performance in both on-axis and off-axis configurations. In fact, the tweeter level and frequency response variations between on and off axis are only noticeable on the most expensive laboratory test equipment. The resulting benefit is a wide and deep soundstage with proper imaging placing you front row center of every selection you listen to.
For years, speakers were constructed of the most crude and basic materials available. The steel, foam and paper designs got the job done but advancements in technology required speakers that could expose the benefits of the improved electronics they were hooked up to. Early on, the MB Quart team recognized a need to develop better components in order to improve overall system performance. The ABS basket proved to be more durable than the metal materials used previously but the real benefit was the substantial increase in midbass frequencies produced from small drivers. |
The crossovers in the Premium components are hand-picked to achieve seamless transition at 2900Hz from midrange frequencies to the higher frequencies handled by the tweeter. Premium crossovers also feature variable tweeter attenuation which something not found in Reference and ONYX. Additionally, the crossover housing is designed for easy installation and simply hides away behind the vehicle’s interior panels. |

Solid budget component set
Bought these while on sale ... have to say that they are/were definitely worth the money I spent on them. Since then, the price has gone up and at nearly 200.00 I would be hard pressed to choose these over the Image Dynamics for a little less... both are great budget components, but this review is about the Quarts
Crossovers are clean, easy to wire and a good size to tuck away after installation. they allow for a 0, -3 and -6db on the tweeter... you'll likely need it the higher you mount them
Tweeters are large, keep that in mind for your install - and they are quite bright when used on-axis. It seems as though the tweeter was designed to be used in a kick panel or low in a door (where most OEM speakers are located). If you do plan on using these higher or more on-axis, you will want to make sure you have a source unit that has an EQ in it so you can attenuate the tweeter. Please note that while I do find them quite bright, I didn't find them offensive or harsh... just very revealing and efficient. I did have to EQ them flat at 6.5k to take away the brightness, but once that EQ cut was made, they calmed down and sound amazing.
Midbass seems very well built, and looks/acts as though it can take a serious amount of power and daily pounding even when crossed over low (60hz vs 80-120hz)
As a set, I have found them to be very revealing and once the tweeter (I am using them on-axis) is attenuated to a reasonable level, they are a joy to listen to and cause little ear fatigue even on long drives.

I've known for many years about the high quality of MB Quart speakers and I finally bought a pair and absolutely love them. They sounded so good I bought another set of 5.25" components to go in my kick panels. They remind me of my reference a/d/s speakers I had back in the day!

These widesphere tweeters are amazing. I usually tend to blow my budget on my front components,(Focal K2, Dynaudio etc.,), however these went in my teenagers car, and I couldn't mentally justify $1,000 for a component set. I took a chance on these and boy was I pleasantly surprised. They handle 150 RMS watts per side with ease. The more clean power you throw at them, the better they sound. To my ear, they sound more refined than the more expensive MB Quart Q's. I can't think of any component set under $500 that can keep up with these. You may find sets with more versatile crossovers, but that can be easily over come with the right equalization. Would definitely recommend in the under $500 category.

I bought Mb quart components in the mid 90's and they have lasted until the present date. They are beginning to wear now so I decided to give these a try. The pvm216's sound as good as the psc216's did in 1996 but at a more affordable price. I am using 3 way crossovers and 3.5 midrange speakers mounted in the dash. If these last 5 years I will be happy because they are almost half the price of the german built ones from 1996. I am using a JL audio 450/4 to push them, thats 150x2 front stage!

I do miss the old school, non China Mbquart. Having owned them in the mid 90s, I can say these are a close representation of them. For the money I don't think you can go wrong with these. Built well, and look excellent. As a tip: Wire these tweeters into the -6db port as they are extremely bright, almost ice pick to the ear bright. I may actually add another resistor to bring them to -8db. They are however very accurate, and if placed correctly will really make a nice soundstage.

Purchase the MB Quart PVM217 to replace the factory speakers in my 07 Avalanche. Reviewed several speakers before deciding on the PVM216. They sound Fantastic! with stock HU no amp. Tehy supply plenty of base, (better than factory). The speakers look Great, the tweeters replace the factory ones in the A- pillars. I will be replacing my HU and installing an amp so these girls can do what they do best -- open up and blow. I can hear them asking for more power. WOW!! Made pretty solid, Features are very nise. Ease of use was timely. Removing the old tweeters making bigger holes in the a-pillars to install the PVM217 tweeters.Turned out pretty damn good. Stay tuned more to come!!!

I bought these speakers after blowing out the tweeters on a set of Polk db's that I had originally installed in my car. When I got around to replacing them I decided to get a component set. After checking out all different kind of speakers from different places I thought I would give these MB Quart's a try. I've always heard good things about MB Quart and after putting them in my car I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of sound. The tweeters were a little bright and a little harsh at first (I'm guessing because I mounted them high in the door) but after a few adjustments to the EQ and they sounded amazing. They sound louder then the Polk's did at lower volume levels and much clearer. I'm feeding them 60 watts RMS with a HiFonics Zeus amp and they handle the amp with no sweat. My wife gave them the best complement when she told me that every time she hears someone in a car with loud music the sound is always distorted but when I'm in my car you can hear all the musical detail from outside the car. I know this is true because there has been a time or two that I've been at a stop light and I can see someone in a car close to mine mouthing the lyrics of the song I'm listening to. MB Quart did a great job with these speakers and Sonic Electronix did a great job with the price.
