this is a very good crossover, especially for systems with midbass. but be prepared to spend exactly $73.40 extra for crossover modules specific to your speakers' frequency. the included crossover modules (5 of them that look like removable ROM chips) that ship default with this unit are completely useless. AudioControl forces you to upgrade. One other thing I do not like is the power, ground, remote connectors. It is a very flimsy plastic, and could snap off with a little push. Besides that, the rest off the unit seems very rugged and durable.

For over two decades, AudioControl has been designing and manufacturing award-winning autosound products at our factory located in the rainforests of the Pacific Northwest. During this period, countless sound-off winning contestants have chosen AudioControl products to give them the competitive edge. "Can you really win without AudioControl", was part of an article written commenting on competition winning systems. Nothing sounds better than an awesome recording played back on a kickbutt system. Unfortunately, the acoustics of your vehicle can take away from your systems performance. While AudioControl products do not change the laws of physics (although they act like they do), autosound enthusiasts have long known that AudioControl products "make good stereo sound better".

6XS - 6 channel Electronic Crossover
The 6XS does it all. Sharp 24dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley alignment crossover with remote level control for the bass. Automode™ input switching automatically configures the 6XS for two, four or six channels of input with up to eight channels of output. Includes bass management with the Programmable Frequency Match (PFM) circuit and a high tech PWM power supply for maximum voltage in all conditions.
When using an electronic crossover in your system, one of the most important considerations is the type of slope. Lesser quality crossovers will cause phase shift errors, speaker crossover nulls, and improper speaker performance. Like other AudioControl crossovers, the 6XS contains an audiophile 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley alignment design that provides linear phase response over the entire audible frequency range.
Key Features:
AutoMode Inputs:
Whether your source unit has two, four, or six outputs, the 6XS will automatically switch the inputs to match.
24 dB/Octave Linkwitz-Riley Alignment Crossover:
The programmable 24 dB/Octave audiophile caliber crossover in the 6XS is the same topology as in many other award winning AudioControl components. Needless to say, it is a far cry from the wimpy crossovers that find their way into many amplifiers these days. What is the benefit of fine tuning your system if you cannot accurately route the proper frequencies to the proper amplifier channels?
Remote Mounted Subwoofer Level Control:
Need a little more bass to impress your buddies? Or maybe you want to tone it down to not scare off your date. Whatever the case, the 6XS has a subwoofer output level control that allows you to control the amount of signal that goes to your subwoofer outputs. In addition, you have the ability to mount the chassis of the 6XS in the rear of the car (we recommend staying away from the bumper), and mount the dash control in some easily accessible location. The dashboard of your car comes to mind.
13 Volt Pre-Amp Line Driver:
The 6XS offers a high quality line driver that takes the low output voltage of a source unit and increases it up to 13 volts peak. This allows you to maximize the signal-to-noise of your system and drive your amplifiers to their maximum output without clipping. No hiss, clicks, or pops plus maximum sound quality.
PFM Subsonic Filter:
This unique feature is legendary with many AudioControl fanatics for its ability to fine tune the bass response of any system. Why waste power on nasty subsonic information when your Programmable Frequency Match (PFM) filter can help you clean things up?

Crossover Specifications
A crossover is a type of filtering system that permits only certain frequencies to play. A Low-Pass (LP) crossover allows only frequencies below its setting to get through which is good in the case of some subwoofers. A High-Pass(HP) filter allows frequencies above its setting to pass through, this is normally used on speakers.
When a crossover is set to FULL it means no filtering is added and the full frequency spectrum is allowed through the amplifier. Filtering is important because feeding a speaker frequencies it cannot reproduce effectively creates distortion.
High-Pass (HP)
Subsonic
The steepness of the roll-off slope is measured in dB/octave and refers to the rate of attenuation (lowering of volume) outside their pass bands.

Great crossover, I wish it'd do active 4-way plus rear high pass but not much out there will. If you're the type of person (like me) who would be embarrassed to spend $73.40 on crossover modules, mouser electronics has the appropriate 14 pin resistor networks for 54 cents each.
