Incredible Bass with Ability to Perform in a Tight Space!

NVX's VC-Series car subwoofers are about to blow you away. The VCW124 is a jack-of-all-trades and has been engineered to the highest standards. The woven fiber pressed paper cone and custom High Roll foam surround with Nylon stitching help reproduce tight and accurate bass, keeping cone distortion to a minimum even at the highest volume levels. The next key components in the design of the VCW124 are the large dual 3" High Temperature Aluminum voice coils and triple stacked motor structure. With all of these features combined this sub can handle some serious power at 850-1000 watts RMS. The dual voice coils also give you many options for different Ohm load wiring configurations.

With all the above engineering elements combined, the VCW124 subwoofer gives you a better sound and build quality of many subs costing almost twice as much. They even sound amazing in small sealed enclosure for people with limited space!

Additional Information:

*CEA-2031 Compliant: All CEA-2031 compliant loudspeakers adopt the same testing and measurement methods so comparing them side by side is easy. Loudspeakers include car speakers and subwoofers. The Consumer Electronics Association created new testing and measurement methods for mobile loudspeaker systems that define test procedures for rating the performance and physical size of speakers. This is important because you can now compare different speakers on the same playing field. Any manufacturers who adopt the CEA-2031 logo product mark can be compared evenly to other speaker manufacturers with the same mark.

Subwoofer Specifications

Subwoofer Series
Each subwoofer manufactured is part of a series. This is the name of the subwoofer's series.
VC-Series (NVX)
Subwoofer Size
Refers to the diameter of the subwoofer, measured in inches.
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
1000 watts
Voice Coil(s)
Dual voice coil subs have more wiring flexibility than single voice coils subs; however, single voice coil subwoofers provide easier hookup options for wiring multiple subwoofers in parallel or series. You may also run a dual voice coil (DVC) sub in parallel, series, or combination. A quad voice coil has four voice coils and is equal to two dual voice coil subwoofers as far as wiring goes.
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
2 ohms
Voice Coil Diameter
Diameter of voice coil, usually measured in inches.
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
20 - 220 Hz
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.
Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
85 dB
Xmax (millimeters)
Typically measured in millimeters, the Xmax value is the measure of a speaker cone's maximum excursion in one direction while maintaining a linear behavior.
20 mm
Subwoofer Design
This is the design of the subwoofer or the opening of the subwoofer enclosure. Each design has it's own benefits, whether it is a square, circle, or oval.

Round/Circle: This is the typical and common subwoofer design. They have a round cone and are a circle in design.

Square: These woofers are able to achieve a greater cone area in a smaller space. Because of the greater surface area, some square subwoofers will be louder than a round subwoofer of the same size.

Round / Circle
Main Cone Color
This is the color of the speaker's or subwoofer's cone.
Dark Gray
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Woven Fiber Pressed Paper Cone
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
High Roll Foam
Magnet Structure
Defines the overall structure of the subwoofers magnet.
Triple Stacked
Subwoofer Grille
Most subwoofers are able to accommodate a universal grille; however, some subs include a grille and others have a specific, optional grille available for purchase separately. If "yes", then the subwoofer includes a grille. If "optional (sold separately)" the matching grille will need to be purchased in addition to the sub.
Re-Cone Kit Available
Some higher end subwoofers have replaceable cone assemblies. In case of a blown woofer, a recone kit allows for a simple replacement, as opposed to purchasing an entire new subwoofer.

Recommended Enclosure Specifications

Recommended Enclosure Type
This is the recommended type of enclosure that the subwoofer should be installed into. Some subwoofers are specially designed for particular enclosures.

Sealed: These enclosures completely enclose the air inside the box. These boxes produce a tight bass.

Ported/Vented: These enclosures have a slot of air to escape from the box. The result is a sound that has more "boom".

Bandpass: These are a combination of both sealed and ported enclosures. They can be very efficient, but require tuning for the best response.

Ported / Vented
Optimum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the ideal sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
0.75 cubic feet
Optimum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the ideal ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
1.25 cubic feet
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
Cutout Diameter
The actual diameter of the hole you will need to cut out if you are creating a new mounting location for this speaker, or if you are mounting a subwoofer in a box.
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

Electromechanical Parameters

Free-Air Resonance (Fs)
The free-air resonance frequency of the subwoofer, measured in Hz. At this frequency the weight of the moving parts is perfectly balanced with the subwoofers suspension system.
23.6 Hz
Equivalent Compliance (Vas)
This is the amount of air that has the same stiffness as the subwoofers suspension. The greater the rating, the lower the stiffness and larger recommended enclosure. It is measured in Liters.
63.51 liters
Total Speaker Q Value (Qts)
This is the subwoofers relative damping (Q) at the resonance frequency (Fs), including all dimensionless losses. Essentially, a high Qts value (closer to 1.0) means the subwoofer is great for sealed enclosures and a low Qts value (closer to 0) means the woofer is great in vented enclosures. A Qts of around 0.45 means the woofer will work decently in either enclosure type.
Electrical Resistance of Voice Coil (Re)
Amount of DC resistance of the subwoofer when measured with an ohm meter. Typically, this will read less than the impedance rating of the subwoofer.
3.20 ohms
Mechanical Q Value (Qms)
This is the subwoofers relative damping (Q) at the resonance frequency (Fs), including mechanical losses. Also called the mechanical damping of the subwoofer. This unitless measurement usually varies from 0.5 – 10.

Will this sub hit harder then a alpine type r?
Nickp on Mar 19, 2016
Best Answer: Short answer, YES! Longer answer is the NVX has to be placed in the right type of box before you get the type if "hit" you want. If its rock music then sealed is the way to go with maybe .75cu ft. If its deep strong bass 1.25cu ft. Ported will be the best. I'd also recommend purchasing two subs and run at least a 1500w RMS amp...the cleaner the power the better the sub sounds. I hope my over-the-top answer helps.

Best Answer: Reese, I'm assuming that one of the reasons for the NVX line to be so cheap in price is because they are teamed up with Sonic Electronix, its an inside brand. Unlike the big companies like JL, Kicker, etc. They have a bigger team of engineers, staff and PR department that they have to pay for. NVX doesn't need that much so they pass those savings on to the end user. I speak only for NVX as I was in the Sonic Electronix warehouse to have a system installed in my car.

Will the NVX VCW122 work with the Atrend 12LSV 12-Inch Single Vented Subwoofer Enclosure?
mystery on Mar 14, 2017
Best Answer: I say yes. Sub mount depth is 7.2, enclosure depth is 14.75. If anything you might have to make the enclosure hole a bit bigger. I doubt you will need to modify anything, the sub should just drop in.

does this sub have the tinsel leads stitched into the spider?
ANTHONY S on Aug 9, 2015
Best Answer: Yes it does, this sub is a beast. Have it running on a Fosgate r1200-1d, 1350 rms watts. Be sure to DD-1 your amps so u don't have any distortion in your system.

i am trying to decide what sub will sound better on a 1.80 FT^3 sealed enclosure in the trunk of my car? amplifier is a DB Drive A6 2800.1 wired at 2 ohms
mayitodmngz m on Oct 19, 2015
Kicker 11S12L72
Kicker 11S12L72
Best Answer: Hello,

First, you cannot wire either of the two drivers specified to a 2ohm load. They are both Dual-2ohm subs, which means you can only wire to a 1ohm load or a 4ohm load. Furthermore, you also cannot wire an amplifier to any specific load, as that is impossible; we're sure you know that, but just want to make sure we're on the same page.

Now, assuming you meant to specify the Dual-4ohm version of each subwoofer, we still can't give you the ok, because that amplifier claims a modest 1400w RMS @2ohms, which is a bit more than we're comfortable letting go by. The large sealed enclosure is also an issue, but not the glaring one at this point. We suggest speaking to our sales team to find a suitable driver for you.

2800W MAX Class D Single Channel Monoblock Chaos Exxtreme Series Amplifier?
BetoPower on Nov 8, 2014
Best Answer: This subwoofer will hit very hard with that amp. I have my running on an ssl 2600. Ssl is owned by boss so the amps are very similar. In my opinion this sub makes more sense than buying an overpriced alpine or jl.

VCW122. What is the recommended volume for this in a sealed enclosure? The online manual says .85 however the instruction booklet says 1.00?
Michael S on Jan 20, 2016
Best Answer: Depends on how much power your running. You could run it in either. Don't know the actual spec. But if your running the smaller spec put more power. If your running the larger spec put less power. Email nvx they will give you more info on your question. Larger should hit lower while smaller should hit tighter but not quite as low but again depending on the power your running

Does the sealed specs include the subwoofer displacement? Thanks
A shopper on Dec 20, 2015
Best Answer: From my experience with both ported and sealed enclosure I'd have to say that the .85cu.ft. Is including the displacement of the sub. From some of the test with different enclosure designs I've found that a ported box built to 1.25-1.35 will yield nice deep bass you can hear and feel down to about 30-35 hertz (42 to 47 herts being the tube point). A sealed enclosure around .85 - 1.0 will hit with more punch. For me I run 1-12" NVX powered by a kicker 2500.1 @ 4 ohms. Puts out about 1250watts which drives the sub hard with no problems. All in all a decent sub for the money.

hi there what is the Peak Power Handling of this sub?

A shopper on Jan 26, 2015
Best Answer: Hello ,

NVX is a 'Performance' Manufacture, and this is especially true with the VC line of drivers. Moreover, 'Peak/Max' Power Handling is a useless figure, and is often only use by manufactures to advertise a Large Number on the box. Because of this , NVX does not bother with providing such a figure. Instead, the provide the TRUE Power Range, RMS. In this case, the RMS Power Range is 850-1000 watts .

If, however, you are asking 'what the MOST power' that you can run the subwoofer at is, we CANNOT answer that. It would be VERY irresponsible for us to do so. We can only stick to the Manufacture's suggested range. This is because BLOWN Subwoofers are NOT covered under warranty, and if we told you that the subwoofer can realistically handle xxxxwRMS and you blew the sub, we would be held liable. We hope you understand.

Here is a hint though, do some video searches of the VCW122, you Might stumble on a few videos that will answer that question.
