Anyone have any idea what the micro USB and L shaped bottons do or can be configured to do something? I have a basic 4 speaker model 2012 focus with a Sony 62BT touch.

Best Answer: From the manual: "Note: The integrated buttons on this kit are used to navigate the factory display above the radio. The button below the info button can be used to turn the factory screen on and off if desired. The remainder of the control functions are the same as factory was prior to aftermarket installation."
From the press release: "The unique, rubber touch, backlit buttons retain the vehicle’s hazard button, lock/unlock, and controls of the Driver Information Center."
From me: I believe I read somewhere the USB port is for programming. So if there is an update to the firmware, that might be the place to flash the electronics. If you are good with a computer, you could probably program it yourself.
My Experience: I can tell you that the controls worked for a day. Now the only thing that works, besides the hazard signals and the lock/unlock button and light, is the right L-shaped button which, when pressed for a long time, changes the display from a simple clock/calendar to "Welcome to Ford Audio". Also, there is now no way to change the clock/calendar because the control buttons are covered by the Metra unit. But, because I am so happy with it otherwise, and the hazard and lock/unlock buttons and light work, I am keeping it.

Will this fit a 2015 ford focus stereo w/o myford touch?
Dan P on Jan 17, 2016
Best Answer: Hi Dan,
Yes, it should not be a problem. If you want to be absolutely certain, go to Metra's website for more info. You can also do a YouTube search for "Metra FORD FOCUS 2012 & UP 99-5827B dash kit" to see a Metra factory representative discussing the kit. I think the kit is spectacular, but would like to mention a couple things: I did not have the Ford Sync or MyFord Touch features. So, what I did was gut the clock/display, drill several holes in the plexiglass cover for USB ports and a sub amp volume knob, and paint it black. This was more useful to me than putting the clock/display back the way it was, which - by the way - would be blocked anyway since the Metra shroud covers too much of the clock/display. Next, I did not use any of the electronic interfaces from Metra. So, the multi-function center buttons, and the buttons to the left and right of it are not used. Why did I do that? Because the electronics were faulty and they did not work, and I wasn't going to use them anyway. I am very happy to say the hazard button and the door lock/unlock button work flawlessly... two buttons I would never drive without. Finally, the orange LED is so bright at night it may feel like a laser cutting through your head. I bought a product called "LightDims" which had a variety of smoky-colored, transparent dots which you can peel off and stick over the LED to filter the light so it isn't too bright at night but remains bright enough to see at night. Last of all, I connected my head unit to a "constant on" 12volt source and bypassed the ignition altogether. The drain on the battery when the head unit is off should be minimal. The reason I did that was the Ford computer kept turning the power off when I was sitting in my car listening to music. Then I would have to turn the key, which would interrupt power to the dash, and then the lights would all come on, fade out after five minutes, and then the dash power would be cut off after five more :( Best of luck!
