This stereo features Apple CarPlay - a smarter, safer way to use your iPhone in the car. CarPlay takes the things you want to do with your iPhone while driving and puts them right on your head unit's display. You can get directions, make and receive calls and messages, and listen to music. Just plug in your iPhone and go! You can learn all about Apple Carplay on the Sonic Electronix blog here.

NOTE*: Due to various issues with iOS 8, not all AppRadio Mode applications function properly. For updates on what apps will function with iOS 8, check here.
FOR DISPLAY/OFF-ROAD PURPOSES ONLY: For the new 2015 Pioneer AVIC-NEX models, these headunits will not require an interface, switch, etc. to bypass the video-in-motion lock feature. There is a "secret" hidden button in the software that allows you to bypass the lock. Here is how to do it:

Nice upgrade
The apple play will sometimes have some lag time but, it's a great deck. You also have to turn on the apple play before you use it unlike some of the other models. Still worth the money for it.

I bought a different radio and it had a motorized screen that did not work with my car. I returned as per their instruction. The refunded my bank account in a very short time. Then I found a Pioneer AVIC-5100NEX on their site . I received both radio's in a very short time. I buy from them again.

I have always stuck to Pioneer headunits as they are built well and offer great functionality for what you pay for. I wanted a all-in-one unit as far as Bluetooth audio, navigation, and Apple CarPlay for my 2006 Mazda 3. I installed it right before my big road trip heading to Seattle and back for a week and it performed VERY well. The Naviteq GPS software looks and works great with a good set of features I find useful, and with more to come as I have read Pioneer still has yet to release more updates (hopefully sooner than later!). Maps are clear and the graphics are smooth. Audio quality via Bluetooth or through the Lightning cord are crisp with the customizable 13-band equalizer.
Only problem I have with it is the unit gets confused and will become unresponsive when you have your phone paired for Bluetooth audio and decide to plug it in for Apple CarPlay occasionally - turning off Bluetooth on my iPhone 6 before plugging it in did the trick. I hope Pioneer stays on top of this unit as far as firmware because it truly is a great compliment to my car.
As per usual, Sonic delivered well, and I will continue purchasing from them!

This system was very easy to setup and get going and the install was sweet. Cant say enough about it it's user friendly for both apple and android users. The HD radio picks up better than my last radioso far it haven't been going in and out of HD. To summarize would I purchase this again for another vehicle absolutely.

An excellent system. I made a 2008 Corvette into a 2017. It automatically syncs up to my iPhone 6plus with Apple Carplay. It's worth the money to come out of the Stone Age. This system does everything! It's dope and you don't have to have a lot of money to get one. Call Sonic for the info on this system.

Decent sound quality and features. Looks great and incorporates all the things I was looking for at a very good price. The controls are somewhat clunky, though I have become use to them over time and it is getting easier to use. It is not really intuitive, I had to go to the manual several times to work out how to access some of the features.
start-up and load time seem to be a bit long but the biggest issue is that every time I turn on the car, I have to acknowledge the "Don't use this when you're driving" screen before it will turn on and that's getting annoying.
Still, it was a very good value and I don't think you can get this much for this price any where else.
I've only had it a few months so I can't speak to durability. the three-star rating is just a default because the site won't let me post a review without it.
