General Features

Security System Type
This indicates whether the product is a security car alarm product, remote start module, or a combo unit that offers security with remote start features.

Security: This means that the car alarm system is just that. No bells and whistles, just a car alarm system.

Remote Start: when installed, this allows the user to start a vehicle from a remote location. Remote start modules and security with remote start alarms often require an additional vehicle specific bypass module to complete installation.

Security with Remote Start: This means that the system incorporates both features listed above.

Security with Remote Start
Car Alarm
If "Yes", the system will have alarm security features to help prevent vehicle theft and tampering. Remote start modules without alarm features will have "No" for this value.
Yes
Remote Start
If the alarm or remote start module has "Yes" for this value then the system has an electronic device that allows you to start your vehicle by remote control without actually being inside the vehicle or using the key. The remote start system supplies the vehicle with power and simulates a start just as if you were inside using the key. Select vehicles require additional accessories or immobilizer/bypass modules to use the remote start feature.

Some remotes can be used as an additional 2nd or 3rd remote on a car alarm system.

Plug and play remote start; still need Flash Updater 2, but T-harness makes connecting much simpler.
John G on Dec 9, 2015
I have a 2011 Nissan Maxima I want a EVO remote start plug and play with no programming I have to go to th dealer to have done. Do they make one so I can do it at my on mechanic shop (Firestone)? the car is keyless, it has push button start. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks...Anthony Bunt, Alabama
Anthony on Dec 7, 2016
Best Answer: Yes, you can do this by yourself. You need the Fortin EVO-NIST1 (comes with the T-harness) and a Fortin Flashlink Updater 2 (just for programming).
I did this on a 2013 Infiniti G37X in about 2 hours, but I had planned this for weeks before. Even so, I wish I knew when I started:

1) How much stuff needs to be removed and how to do it, especially the plastics.
2) The start button can be easily removed from the front by slipping a credit card around the perimeter and releasing two clips at ~ 4:30 and 10:30 positions
3) The three wires to the BCM need to be lengthened by about 5 feet; one pin needs to be cut off to splice the wire to one on a populated pin; you just pry the top white part of the green/white 40 pin connector away slightly to allow the pins to seat and then push the white part back in to secure the pins

My BCM was in the passenger footwell; I think the Maxima is on the driver's side, but I'm not sure.

Fortin's instructions are thorough and their website has good info. I also followed an Altima install on a Nissan forum and a G37 one as well. Just Google; I'm pretty sure there was a useful YouTube as well.

Good luck!
