The adage, "you get what you pay for", is not always true. Even though this unit is priced very reasonably, it still lacks basic quality; it's cheap.
The first thing I noticed about the unit upon receiving was that it didn't come with any detailed instructions aside from some basic, this is how to turn it on, instructions. I've been installing car stereos in my own vehicles and boats for 20 years, so installation wasn't difficult, but regardless, instructions would have been nice.
Upon installing, I soon noticed the display. The display while playing the radio is very lackluster. It appears to be a sound analyzer, with the bars that fluctuate with the pitch of the music. However, after watching them for a few seconds, I realized that they do not respond to the music, but follow a random, computer generated pattern, independent from the pitch of the music. Annoying to say the least.
I thought, no problem, I'll just listen to my favorite CD. Bad mistake! CD sound quality is horrendous. It sounds as though the unit is attempting to play the CD as a DVD with the music going out through the center channel; my vehicle has no "center channel". I have to turn the volume to near max to hear the CD.
By this time, I'm really getting peaved with the unit. I decided to chill out by programming my favorite stations. That's a huge chore considering the touch screen is poorly sensitive and the touch is not properly calibrated. I've attempted to calibrate the touch to no avail.
Blue Tooth works pretty well. The unit is in a vehicle with a good bit of road noise (Jeep Wrangler) so I don't fault the unit for poor sounding Blue Tooth (I keep having to repeat myself when I try to use Blue Tooth due to the background noise)
The GPS is pretty good. It did quit working once while in New Orleans, LA, but began working again after I stopped to purchase a paper map. I guess I should have just tried turning off the vehicle and restarting. I did turn the unit off, but didn't shut off power to it; maybe I should have before giving up on it. Again, this has only happened once.
I would like to upgrade to the latest map for the GPS, but haven't found a place to purchase that. In all fareness, I haven't looked too hard.
I've tried to contact Motevo about my problems, but they will not return email. I suspect they'll likely be out of business soon. The company seems to be a "fly-by-night" outfit.
All in all, the unit is packed with features for the price. However, if I had it to do over again, I would certainly forego a feature or two or just spend a little extra cash and purchase something from a more reputable and well-known company in the hopes of getting something with a bit more quality.
