Boston Acoustics

First of all, I would like to stand in defense of the gentleman who wrote the review concerning his Sony amp with (60 amp fuse) rating, and say that he is entitled to his interpretation of car audio and has the right comment in any fashion he chooses. Second, it was was very rude to bash someone else for their comment, and you used the wrong word the describe what you thought of his comment. Dumb means that you can't speak. I believe the correct word or the one you were looking for is stupid. Now there is a word, or few to describe you, however this is about the Boston Acoustics S60's.

If you know anything about Boston Acoustics is a company that has set many industry standards in the SQ field. The Boston sound is one, all it's own. The tonal balance of the speakers (if you are into SQ) is what you are listening for. Boston has the crossover point set to give optimal performance in from the correct listening position and off-axis.

You will never get low mid-bass from one of these. However if coupled a nice subwoofer in the proper enclosure (ie. Infinity Kappa, Boston Acoustic G5, JVC Arsenal series, Morel, etc.) where low end extension and roll off are optimal, then the subwoofer will "disappear" and the Boston's will be doing the job they are designed to do. And that was mentioned by Focalguy, they play loud and virtually without distortion, provided they are power by a good quality amp, with balance line driver, and the amp is not being driven into clipping.

Overall, Boston is not an "entry level" speaker and they don't have anything in their arsenal that is inferior. Focal is Focal, Boston is Boston, just like MB Quart is MB Quart.

This is a particular brand and set that cannot afford to be overlooked. Listen, listen, listen........and listen some more. You can't go wrong with Boston Acoustics.

Great product!!

Hi,
These speakers are the best that I have ever purchased for the price. I installed four ( one per door ) on a 5 channel 1800 watt amp with a single thin mount pioneer premier series 10'' sub in my Honda Fit. Turns heads wherever go! The clarity, polarity and responsiveness of these speakers at high inputs are next to none.
I would recommend these for even for the novice user.

BA S60

I installed these in a 97 neon in the doors and tweeters on the dash. I set the tweeters on the lowest setting on the crossovers and still found them incredibly shrill. After an extended break in they are now enjoyable to listen to.

The woofers produce good clean sound and aren't to boomy in the bass department(nice and tight). They tend to get distorted at very high volumes, but miles better than any factory coaxial speakers.

Overall i am very satisfied with thier performance and would recommond them to a friend for a upgrade to factory speakers.

I've found the ones!

These speakers sound GREAT! I've been through quite a few from MB Quart, Power Bass, Polk, etc. and none of them ever sounded right to me. These have come the closest to what I like without breaking the bank. The crossover point is just right. Not harsh at all. Something that has always bugged me with other speakers even with heavy EQing. Mid-bass isn't going to wow you but it does blend in nicely with a subwoofer. Loudness is respectable as the specs say.

The only thing I hate is the tweeter mount. No, they're not flush. They're the most annoying angle mounts on the planet. I used some surface mounts from another pair of tweeters and fit them inside.

Boston S60

Replaced some Infinity Ref's with these. Not happy with them, had to modify the opening for them to fit. The tweeters are ok but the midrange is terrible. I would not buy them again.

Good replacement over stock. Good value.

First of all, to the guy below me the fuse rating on amplifier means nothing about the power of an amp or anything! why would you give the fuse size/rating of your crappy sony?? lol thats the dumbest review I have ever read.. As for the speakers , I bought and installed these for my dad for his birthday. They are being powered by an Infinity Ref. 475a amplifier (75RMS X 4 @ 4ohms ) that i had laying around here that wasn't being used. All new 16 gauge speaker wire was ran from the amp to both speakers in the doors, with the Dynamat door kit and Dynaxorb behind each speaker. The tweeters were mounted in the A-pillars. At first glance the speakers , crossovers and speaker grilles look extremely cheap and with a really plasticy look to them. As for the sound, for a really low end , basic entry level speaker in the $200 price range , these don't sound too bad at all. I can't compare them to my Focal K2 Power series comps in my truck because that wouldnt be fair at all and they arent even close to being on the same level. But for a cheap replacement over stock speakers these are a good choice considering the price for them from sonic. they sound a bit muffled and the clarity isnt the greatest, even after the proper install and tuning with an equalizer but again for the price they are considerably good sounding speakers for what they are designed to be, an average entry level component set. With the proper location of the woofer and tweeter the sound stage and imaging was pretty good. The tweeters were fairly accurate and not harsh (for my taste).. the midbass was average for the price. The most impressive thing was the overall volume/loudness of these speakers . they are pretty sensitive and get fairly loud. I was impressed. I would imagine they would perform well even without an amp. If you're on a tight budget and are only lookin for an upgrade from stock speakers and don't expect miracles or the best sound in the world.. than these speakers are for you. my dad was extremely happy with them and so was I for the price tag on them. Take your time and install them right and you wont be disappointed considering they are only $110 from sonic. these speakers were designed for a cheap replacement over stock and require little power to push them and thats exactly what you get and Boston did a good job at it too.. At $110 these are def. worth the money.

goos speakers

i bought a set of these off of this site, had em in there for 7 months now, there powerd by a old sony 4 channel amp (60amp fuse rating), these speakers are loud and clean, and well ive never managed to make them distort or get hot smelling, fair warning, thses are not 6 and 1/2, i had to cut out my door panels and make some modifications, but well worth it, so unless you own a jig saw check ur hole size first ;)

Great sound for the price

Hi,

Overall i would say this is a great OEM speaker replacement,
Even though this is a entry level BA speaker it performs well, midbass hits well and the tweeter is fairly accurate. But you need to properly align your tweeter to get the best staging out it.

If your new to setting up SQ system on your car the S60 is a good start and reference for your future upgrade for a much better systems.

I had these speaker for over a year but replace them already with Hertz ESK 163L.
