The Backstopper™ CA-5020 is a front and rear impact warning sensor system designed to aid the driver not only when backing up the vehicle but also when pulling forward. The system includes a colorful dash-board mounted LED digital display with a four sensor direction indicator and (8) ultra-sonic sensors for front and back signaling. The crystal-clear LED digital display comes with a four-sensor direction indicator which will also indicate when it is the front or the rear sensors detecting the obstruction.
The sensors wide detection angle will alert the driver of any small children, pedestrians, animals or small unseen objects such as bicycles or parking poles in the front or the rear of the vehicle
The system is also equipped with Intelligent Detection to allow to system to be compatible with vehicles that are equipped with tow-hitches and spare tire racks or other protrusions on the rear of the vehicle. The intelligent detection can be calibrated to learn where these protrusions are on the bumper and will not send false-alerts to the driver when the vehicle is in reverse.

Nice aftermarket addition
These look like they're from China but the quality is not bad. The install can be time consuming if you want to do it right (hide and tie down wiring, use grommets, etc.). I put it on my 2014 Subaru XV both front and rear and it took about 2-3 days only because I took the interior bodywork off and made sure it was neat and clean. The wiring length to the front and rear is sufficient for most vehicles and the control box is about 4.5 x 3.5 x 1 inches that will have a bundle of wiring going to it. I used braided wire cable sleeving to run the main wires to the control box and adhesive cable tie mounts where wires might hang.
The sensors have to intalled into the control box in a particular order (A-H) so I offset each main wire through the sleeve so I would know which wire went to which sensor. I recommend you use the highest vertical distance you can when you mount sensors...I had mine about 2-3 inches below the maximum height and was still getting false hits on the pavement. The sensors are sightly directional (wire down points the sensor slightly down) so I rotated mine 180 degrees and now they work perfectly.
Been using it for about a week now and appears to work really well. Its great at picking up curbs, brush, walls and the graphical and audible display are helpful. Very few false hits (since I adjusted the sensors angle) The distance seems to be about right and when you're withing a foot or so the audible will tell you to "stop" (female voice in english). Sensors show graphically how close the object is to each sensor and displays the shortest numerical distance. My only complaints: doesn't seem to work very well on higher bumpers (SUV's & pickups) and the display can only be mounted one way (can't mount it upside-down and rotate the display). Otherwise I'm pretty happy with this purchase.

I agree with most of Ward's Nov. 25, 2014 review. However, I installed this system on my 2004 Dodge RAM 2500 pickup with good results. After using the CA-5020 for a month, I have no complaints. The prescribed sensor installation height specification is 1.3 ft. to 2.0 ft. above the ground.
The front bumper sensors install within the height specification at 21.5 inches, which is close to the maximum height. I get a very few false hits on the pavement (mostly when braking in forward progress and encountering significant dips in the road surface). It consistently picks up curbs and wheel bumpers, as well as other obstacles when parking nose in.
Mounting sensors on the rear bumper is a different story. The lowest I can install the sensors is at 27 inches, 3 inches above the designated spec. When I place the vehicle in reverse, the sensors do not pick up the curb or wheel bumpers (not an issue for a tall pickup). Taller obstacles are easily detected.
Having said the above, and noting that the sensors face straight out from my bumpers, it appears that the desired sensitivity places the sensors on the front bumper at around the max spec. I would guess the same for the rear bumper. Distance to obstacle is displayed very accurately.
Installation was performed by professionals at my RV service center. The kit comes with a drill bit suitable for the size of the sensor body. Drill a small pilot hole (if the bumper is metal) prior to using the supplied bit. The control box was placed behind the seat of my club cab. The truck is 21 ft. long and the cables are plenty long for providing a clean install. The sensors have pigtails roughly 6 inches long and connect to the cables by means of substantial moisture-resistant threaded connectors. This is great if the bumper ever needs replacing. I had all cables dressed inside wire looms and secured with cable ties to reduce flexing and movement. The display installs above the steering column by means of an adhesive foam tape for ease of visibility.
For its relatively small profile, the display provides good graphics. It displays a 3-D image of a vehicle and relative distance, and location markings for one or more obstacles. The screen is a light blue with white characters and very easy to read, both day and night. The display also features accurate numerical markings to 0.1 foot, registering the closest obstacle. The volume is adjustable and the sound substantial. This RAM has a fairly noisy Cummins diesel, however, the voice and beeps are easily heard above the noise of the engine and the radio.
Just like Ward, I'm pretty happy with this purchase.

This kit is well designed and intuitive to use. The best part is that the sensors are very small making them less noticeable than the OEM sensors. I got it professionally installed and the system works flawlessly. The back sensors and front outward sensors turn on when the reverse gear is engaged making it easy to move in and out of tight spaces. While not in reverse, the front sensors turn on only if there is an obstacle 3feet or closer. Otherwise they stay off! The display is cool blue and high resolution and is bright enough to use in bright sun light. Over all I am extremely happy with this system so far. It has been a month and I appreciate that the system does its job when needed and fades away into the background without being a nuisance. The only feature I don't care for is the voice alert but I turned it off using buttons on the display. I will comment about reliability after a year or so of use.
