Good value for the money
I do recommend this tablet because it is fairly cheap and quite good.
It is a big step up compared to previous generations of Coby tablets. It is capacitive and quite fast, the processor is decent for a 7" tablet and it has enough memory (1GB). It runs with Android 4.0.3 that I like much better than previous Android generations.
Physically speaking, the tablet is fairly well built. It has all the necessary ports and external sdcard capability.
Actually the fact that it has hdmi output is essential for me. For instance, the Nexus 7" is a much better choice from several points of view but the fact that it does not have hdmi output makes it totally useless for me. Without hdmi output I would not be able to connect it to a regular projector (with an adapter) and consequently I would not be able to use it for teaching. My wife has been using it for teaching since I bought it. Actually I bought three of them in different occasions, one for my wife, one for my son and one for my sister in law. I own a Coby 7022 and a 9742.
The only real drawback that may be worth mentioning is that the 7042 like previous Coby tablet generations is not Google certified.
This may or may not be important since the lack of Google Play can be fixed by installing other markets like 1Mobile for instance. Of course most of the other Google apps do not work either.
This can be fixed with a lot of time and work and risk of bricking it. It can be rooted and eventually the Gapps installed. However, those who really care about Google apps are better off waiting for the newly announced 7065 by Coby that is supposed to be better. It has a faster processor, bluetooth, higher screen resolution and it is has the Google apps installed.
