When I received the product, I was pretty amazed at the initial quality of the unit. No squeaks, lots of metal and a nice weight to it. I am used to cheap products so this was new to me. The knobs and buttons all seemed to be sony-par quality.
I got this unit KNOWING it would not fit in my 2003 Chevy Blazer, however with a bit of work I got it to fit in very well. If you have a Chevy with the rounded 2 din hole (check dash pics for 2003 blazer) then you may have to get a knife or better yet some sandpaper and smooth them down to a true square to get this unit to fit properly. It's a tight fit because of the IMMENSE amount of wires that come with this unit, but otherwise it looks quite nice. You may also have to take off the metal Shroud that comes on the unit.
Why did I go to such lengths for this product? I'd like to say first of all the thing that lured me to this unit was the OSD. It has very nice smooth buttons and visuals, which I really wanted if I was going to look at it every day. Most head units display controls looked horrible, but when I installed this unit I was pleasantly supprised.
Secondly I got it for the included Ipod cable. This along with the sat cable made it an amazing value compared to other units $100 more and no extras included. The ipod interface left me somewhat disappointed. There is no album art, and as stated above the ipod firmware for this device is slightly annoying. I find the interface a little clumsy, although it is definitely workable. I wouldn't consider this a big turn off, because I still enjoy the ipod features with the remote. If you memorize where your artists are in the list or from a song you can actually type the number into the remote and it will go directly to that artist/song. Not a bad feature if you know exactly where you want to go.
Also be aware that I could NOT get Sirius to work with this unit. I tried about everything possible but nothing I did would get it to stay in satillite mode. I noticed that XM does work, and the outputs are correctly geared towards XM. That may be something else to keep in mind. I prefer Sirius over XM because I love rock music and it gives me more of a choice. On the flip side, I tried XM with it and it works great.
The DVD playback so far has been great. I made an audio dvd and it sounds very good - seemingly better than my ipod. I do recommend going for the dts660w if you plan on putting in nav later, and bluetooth can be a GREAT safety and coolness feature.
I don't think you will find a better value out there, overall I am very impressed and would recommend it for the price.
