Speaker Specifications

Series
This is the manufacturer product line of speakers.
Power (JBL)
Priced Per
Car Speakers are typically sold in pairs so you will receive 2 speakers for each speaker purchase on speakers marked "Priced Per Pair". If a speaker is marked "Priced Per Each" then the speaker is sold individually and each purchase you make will result in 1 speaker. High-powered tweeters, midrange and full-range pro audio for car speakers are typically sold per each speaker.
Pair
Speaker Size
Refers to the size of the speaker measured in inches. Every vehicle has standard application sizes. Please use our vehicle fitment guide for your vehicle's specific speaker sizes if you do not know them.
6-1/2"
Design
The number of individual drivers in a car speaker. Speakers with 2 drivers are known as a 2-way, and 3 drivers are known as a 3-way. Component systems are often referred to as "separates" because the tweeter is not attached to the midwoofer (main speaker driver) and mounts separately in a location such as a door post. Component systems typically come with an external crossover so you can easily adjust the high and low frequencies sent to both the midwoofer and the tweeter. Center channel speakers are great for those looking to have surround sound in their vehicle.
2-way
Tweeter Design
Designs such as cone, dome, semi-dome, balanced dome, and whizzer are most popular. Cone tweeters are simple, efficient and typically are the most reasonably priced. Dome tweeters are used in most home speakers, and provide a smoother and more accurate sound. Semi-dome design is one with a dome placed inside a cone. A Balanced dome driver is a semi-dome with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the driver. A whizzer tweeter is a separate tweeter cone driven by the voice coil of the woofer.
Dome
Tweeter Composition
Materials such as polypropylene, silk, cloth, and paper are the most common, where as many more recent tweeters are now manufactured with composites such as Aluminum, Titanium, Mylar, and other materials.

PEI is an acronym for "Polyetherimide" which is an amorphous, amber transparent, high-performance thermoplastic.

Textile
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Honeycomb Laminate (HCL)
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Rubber
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
165 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
55 watts
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
93 dB
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
55 - 23000 Hz
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
2 ohms
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

Yes
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
1-15/16"
Speaker Grilles
A grating or screen of metal or plastic bars or wires, mounted in front of a speaker as protection. If yes, the speakers will include matching speaker grilles. If no, there are no grilles included.

Good replacement for factory Bose in 2014 Altima

October 14, 2013

I chose these based on the need for a 2 Ohm speaker and the good reviews on this site and others. JBL and Infinity both make 2 Ohm speakers and this would allow me to use the Bose amplifier and head unit in my 2014 Altima Sedan to keep the expense down. My car is one week old so I was not too eager to rip out a lot of stuff (or spend $$$$ after just spending $$$$$ for the car). I bought 10 JBL speakers for under $400 from Sonic Electronix (2x GTO329, 2x P662s, 1x P963) These speakers fit, they sound very musical to my ears, and they have great highs and solid "kick". I am not into a lot of bass, but I want to hear the sharp attack of a drum and I find that is a good test of the realism of speakers. I can hear snare drums and high vocals and keyboard notes clearly now. [Note: The Bose system definitely sends midrange and high frequencies to the doors. I didn't know for sure because Bose does things differently than other audio manufacturers. They make cheap speakers sound as good as possible, but that is still far short of musical.] I also changed out the corner dash speakers (tweeters) with the tweeters from a pair of JBL GTO329's. The GTO329 does not fit into the corners of the dash - too deep. So in desperation I clipped the tweeters off and made my own mounting plate to put them in. The Bose tweeters I pulled out were mounted on a square plate and was less than 1 inch deep from the underside of the plate down. I also disconnected the middle dash speaker. This evaluation is based on the sound produced by both the P662's and the tweeters from the GTO329. I would buy both again. I listen to Classic Rock, Christian Rock, and Acoustic Guitar. SuperTramp, Styx, Pink Floyd, Acoustic Alchemy, Third Day, Chris Tomlin, Selah.

Pair of JBL P662s

July 11, 2014

Purchased these speakers to replace Kia Spectra5 factory woofers, they perform very well and can handle full volume from the factory stereo. Bass is slightly less than factory woofers but clean sound reproduction at high volume levels outweighs the difference in my opinion. I would advise an installation kit for the KIA as these speakers will not fit the doors properly without an adapter ring, they will not clear the window track.

Good speakers with great mid bass.

June 23, 2014

I might be a bit biased because of my set up. Pioneer deck into pioneer 2 channel with 2 sets of these in each door in custom mdf door panels. Each pair is wired series @ 4 ohms and is getting 150w rms. Even without a HPF on, these will get loud and clean. There's enough midbass that I can feel the drums in the floor of the car with my set up. (no subs yet, rebuilding system after going 2 years without) I will say these speakers were a little dark sounding on the first listen but that's a plus because when you really crank it there are no harsh frequency spikes to be heard. Piano and acoustic guitar sound really good on these in particular.

May 8, 2014

I have these for my rear fill in a complete JBL system needed something shallow to fit under my rear deck pannel. They are hooked up to the 804ez amp and they scream. they are over powered to say the least....i have them crossed over high and the fade is to the front otherwise you would only hear these!lol, but they do what i want them to and they sound good.

Great Speakers No Regrets

December 20, 2013

I bought these after eliminating other car speakers on Sonic by what I was looking for: 6.5", Shallow mount (My 1989 civic sedan had very little space in the front doors), 2 ohms (to get more power out of my 4 channel amp). These and the JBL GTO were left and I picked these. After hooking them up to my Punch P4004, These things were LOUD and very clear. I had these for a while with no subwoofer, kept them on a HP filter of 100hz and I was still turning heads and I listen to Hip Hop which is often bass heavy. Not to mention they are pretty inexpensive when compared to their Infinity Brand cousins. I'm sure there are better speakers that handle more power but if that's what you are looking for, you wouldn't have checked out this speaker. You will be happy with these and they perform awesome for the price. TIP: If possible, always try to amp your speakers. You often get better sound quality and High pass crossovers help greatly with the sound out of your speakers, not to mention their ability to play clearly at higher volume levels.

Awesome sound

September 17, 2013

These speakers are amazing. They don't have that low bass which if you're looking for buy some 3-ways anyway. I recommend these to anyone who wants powerful speakers that have amazing clarity and loudness. Flawless. Hands down buy these.

Solid Upgrade from OEM

December 25, 2011

I bought these for my Honda Accord door panels. I needed to make some small modifications to the factory mountings to make the new speakers fit. But Wow. JBL sound and 3x louder than the factory speakers. These things really work well with the factory head unit.

JBL P662 Speaker

August 28, 2011

I bought this speaker as a replacement for a blown one in my van. The old one just blew. Their was more work in removing the panel that hooking up the speaker. Only needed one and will use the other when the time comes. Overall, a positive experience with a good product. The dealer replacement cost was simply too expensive. The price I paid was fair and reasonable.

Excellent Speakers

February 21, 2011

I've owned JBL Power Series speakers before, so the excellent performance of these P662s speakers didn't surprise me. The textile tweeters are an improvement over JBL's old titanium tweeters and play with the same clarity, but without the ear fatigue caused by the old metal tweeters. These tweeters are very smooth-sounding and the reproduction is lifelike. The bass is very deep for a 6 1/2" speaker, well-defined, and doesn't muddy the treble of the tweeters thanks to the external crossovers. These speakers are a distinct improvement over my old Infinity Reference 6 1/2" speakers. Worth every penny.

awesome value!!!

March 21, 2009

These speakers are very high quality. If you look in stores you'll see these for 130-150 dollars!! Now these are the shallow version not requiring as much power as the P662. I have them running off my kenwood deck and they're very loud with some decent bass. Off course better with an amp. The sensitivity is up there and I would say they're just as good as the Kappas if not better. They also have a built in crossover.
