Kappa: The Essence of Infinity
This Infinity Kappa 682.9cf is the essence and trademark of Infinity car audio. With all the high-end engineering and technology that goes into each Kappa speaker, you will sure that you are receiving only the highest quality components. Made with a woven glass fiber woofer cone, which contributes to low cone flex, low distortion, and enhanced acoustic clarity. Due to the increased power handling of the Kappa series, the Kappa 682.9cf feature edge-driven MMD dome tweeters that allow for a seamless sonic integration between the tweeter and the mid-woofer. Using the latest in loudspeaker engineering, each of the crossovers has computer optimized voice-matched outboard passive crossovers for flawless performance.
Unipivot: Staging Made Easy
The Infinity 682.9cf features a patented Unipivot tweeter design that ensures proper imaging when the speakers are installed. With the tweeter capable of being moved, it is positional and rotational even after the final screw secures the speaker in the door. Since most speakers are installed low in the door, the Unipivot design brings the soundstage up to the listener for more accurate and enjoyable experience. Each of the Kappa coaxial speakers, such as the Infinity Kappa 682.9cf feature adjustable tweeter level control. This switch will adjust the tweeters output by 3 dB. That simple tuning can make all the difference in your system and it ensures that your Kappa speakers will deliver exactly the sound that you are looking for.
True Four Ohm Technology
The engineers at Infinity have developed a speaker that works for all applications. The True Four Ohm Technology used in these speakers make it perfect for running directly of a headunit or with an aftermarket headunit and amplifier. All of the speakers in the Infinity Reference line feature a 2 ohm voice coil. However, when you factor in the small OEM speaker wire of most vehicles and the heating in the voice coil during use, the impedance actually seen by the amplifier will increase. Infinity has adjusted the speaker to be safely connected to any headunit.

Great Sound Overall, like the ability to tone down the high's using the db boost button on the tweeters. Running off head unit at the moment, crystal clear up to about 65% volume. Definitely needs an amp to see full potential, wiring up a Infinity Reference 4 chan to do that job, have high hopes for SQ out of these little coaxials. Picked these up a couple days ago, apparently was on sale because now I see the price is 30 dollars more than what I payed.
Definitely worth picking up if your not in the market for components.
And for those of you wondering about using the HU to power them since they are 2ohms, I have a kenwood x993 and it does a good job of it, headunit does not run any warmer than normal pushing these 2 ohm speakers.
Plan on adding a set of the kappa 6x9's in the next couple of weeks.

These speakers have great high's and the bass is better than expected.I installed these in the front doors of an 06 honda civic and they sound great just on the head unit power. The install was a little more time consuming than expected, as they did not just drop in, but everything worked out.

I installed these today in my 95 Civic's rear deck. I have them powered by a Polk Audio PA660 on an Alpine 9886. I had some Pioneer 5way 6x9s in boxes which I thought were great speakers until I installed these. I still can't believe how much Detail I'm hearing from my old favorites. It makes me feel like I'm hearing these songs for the first time. Don't be concerned w/ them only being 2 way speakers because they have crisp and clear high without being ear piercing. I'm still not sure if they are metal, or softdome tweeters but they have the brightness of a metal tweeter but the silkyness, warm, smoothness of a softdome. I'd had Kappa speakers in the past I can't remember the models but these are the best I've ever owned. My all time favorites were the Kappa of the late 90s w/ the white dot looking tweeter, these new ones make the older speakers sound ancient.
The tweeters simply rotate around so you can focus the awesome sound they make where you want. I also love the speaker terminals as they are in the inline crossover. The screwheads are Philips so you're not having to hunt up an Allen wrench to install these. They allow for very solid connections w/ a very large wire. I have true 16ga ran throughout my entire vehicle and these look like they could handle 8-10ga which would be way overkill.
I measured the resistance again after allowing them to warm up and my Fluke is reading 2.3ohms. I have Kenwood Components in the front which read 2.5ohms so my Polk PA660 should be able to deliever 85watts to each driver. I never have to increase the volume past 15 out of 35. So I'm not giving them somewhere around 35-40watts and they continue to make my ears thirst for more.
I couldn't be any happier w/ this purchuse and if you're in the market for some high quality, clean, easy to install speakers ... Look No Further!
I always recommend using an external amp, and ALWAYS use baffles when installing speakers. You will save the life of the speaker, and you will allow the speaker to sound like it's suppose to. Having a speaker just mounted in an open door/reardeck will cause the speaker to work harder than it should, and you will limit the sounds they can produce. Baffles are only around $10 and will pay for themselves many times over thoughout the lifetime of your system.
Sonic is always easy to deal with and they don't hesitate to ship your items.
