Celebrating JBL's 60th Anniversary, these GTi Special Edition Series speakers will certainly impress even the most critical audiophiles! Imagine a design, so precisely crafted that it produces only the best quality sound a component system could ever produce.

Using the latest in Laser and Infrared technology, these speakers were thoroughly tested, calibrated, and designed for optimal performance and longevity. JBL's method of design, test, and retesting ensures maximum performance and sets the standard of what is acceptable in the Competition world. In fact, JBL spends at least 100 hours of testing on each speaker at RMS power level to ensure consistent performance and acceptable JBL's high standards.

This competition-grade component speaker system is also designed with as little distortion allowed as possible, ensuring the best possible listening experience for the listener. In addition, your purchase will include two sets of grilles to suit your taste of either leather or carbon fiber!

  • 6-1/2" GTi Series Special Edition 2-way Component Speakers System
  • Power Handling:
    • Peak: 1200 watts per set / 600 watts each side
    • RMS: 300 watts per set / 150 watts each side
  • Kevlar® cone woofer and dustcap
  • NBR (Nitrile Butadiene Rubber) surround (also known as Nitrile Butylene)

Speaker Specifications

Series
This is the manufacturer product line of speakers.
Priced Per
Car Speakers are typically sold in pairs so you will receive 2 speakers for each speaker purchase on speakers marked "Priced Per Pair". If a speaker is marked "Priced Per Each" then the speaker is sold individually and each purchase you make will result in 1 speaker. High-powered tweeters, midrange and full-range pro audio for car speakers are typically sold per each speaker.
Pair
Speaker Size
Refers to the size of the speaker measured in inches. Every vehicle has standard application sizes. Please use our vehicle fitment guide for your vehicle's specific speaker sizes if you do not know them.
6-1/2"
Design
The number of individual drivers in a car speaker. Speakers with 2 drivers are known as a 2-way, and 3 drivers are known as a 3-way. Component systems are often referred to as "separates" because the tweeter is not attached to the midwoofer (main speaker driver) and mounts separately in a location such as a door post. Component systems typically come with an external crossover so you can easily adjust the high and low frequencies sent to both the midwoofer and the tweeter. Center channel speakers are great for those looking to have surround sound in their vehicle.
2-way Component System
Tweeter Design
Designs such as cone, dome, semi-dome, balanced dome, and whizzer are most popular. Cone tweeters are simple, efficient and typically are the most reasonably priced. Dome tweeters are used in most home speakers, and provide a smoother and more accurate sound. Semi-dome design is one with a dome placed inside a cone. A Balanced dome driver is a semi-dome with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the driver. A whizzer tweeter is a separate tweeter cone driven by the voice coil of the woofer.
Dome
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Kevlar Fiber
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR)
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
600 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
150 watts
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
92 dB
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
50 - 30000 Hz
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
4 ohms
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
3-1/16"
Bottom-Mount Depth
The depth when installed from the bottom of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the top of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
3-13/32"
Cutout Dimensions
Refers to the dimensions of the hole, measured in inches or millimeters, required to contain the speaker.
5-1/16" x 5-1/16"

Wow!

September 28, 2013

Absolutely the best sonic quality of any 6-1/2" component set I've ever owned... and I've owned many brands and models. JBL should consider un-discontinuing this product... but perhaps with less functionally-extraneous packaging to reduce the cost. a bit.

speaker component

March 1, 2013

This speaker component works good. It has a good fidelity sound. I like them, it was worth buying it. I recommend these speakers, the only important thing is to tune them up really good. I'm talking about the equalization, once you do that really good you'll get the best quality from them, but trust me those sound really good. That's all I can say to the people who want to buy them.

It doesn't get any better than this!!

October 15, 2012

I've had a lot of different component sets and some costing 3-4 times these JBL's but these are simply the best set of 6 1/2's made!! JBL/Harmon knows how to build audio equipment that is second to none. The DIYMA forums tests speakers through Klippel testing and the JBL 660GTi 6 1/2's performed at the top of the list!! These absolutely rock! You won't be disappointed in these components I promise. I just bought two sets since the price dropped and so should you!!!

If its sound quality your after ...

October 3, 2012

... then these speakers are the ones for you. Amazing, crisp sound quality. Best I've ever heard. I listen mostly to trance - and these speakers do this particular style of music such incredible justice! The design stays true to JBL's continuing mission of providing workmanship second to none. They have yet to be properly tuned to my remaining car audio - but currently I catch next to NO distortion. Assured that once I tune them - I will receive none whatsoever. Granted, its imperative to pair these with a correctly rated amp. I look very much forward to when I next get behind the wheel - as the music I choose to play - regardless of volume - is reproduced to the same exacting standards that its creator intended.

JBL 660GTi

September 13, 2012

I've had these speakers in my Charger for over one year and have yet to find a system that sounds as good as it. One of the woofers went out with a bad voice coil and Sonic Electronix hooked me up with a replacement woofer. The clarity and seperation are superb. The only negative of having a audiophile quality system is that I can definitely hear how poorly some CDs are mastered. I am using the Pioneer Premier P800 PRS head unit and two Stage 4 PRS A900 amps. I have the speakers bi-amped and have the crossovers set in the neutral setting. I have been using JBL speakers exclusively since 1975.

June 4, 2012

Amazing speakers. I have had seven pairs of components and these by far are the best I have ever owned. I compete in car audio. No one will touch my scores with me running these speakers.

The best car speakers I own..

March 8, 2012

I originally attempted to purchase 2 pairs of Boston Acoustic's SPZ60's. Fortunately the 2nd pair was on back order and in haste and slight wincing at the cost, I purchased a pair of the JBL 660Gti's for rear fill. Well, there is really no comparison between these speakers and although the SPZ's are very nice speakers, the JBL's are on a completely different level in sound reproduction. I sold the SPZ's and replaced them with another set of JBL 660Gti's. These speakers sound amazing.

Incredible Sound!!!!

January 8, 2010

I had a pair of MB Quart 6.5 components in my vehicle that I thought sounded great but..... they lacked the umph that a speaker should have when you really wanted it. I heard about the 660GTi speakers from JBL and decided to give them a try. I'm utterly shocked at the sound quality they give out - even at loud volumes!! Absolutely zero distortion and amazing performance. After tweaking of amps and deck, I've never hear a speaker give out more than I expected!!! Well done JBL!!! Bit expensive, but still worth it in the end!!!

Wow!

April 5, 2014

Put these speakers in the front of my GMC Sierra and they kick ass! A little pricey and only used the actually speakers so I have lots of accessories left over. Just had my system tuned up and now that they are broken in I can really crank my stereo up. They sound great loud and I love it loud. Great for me. Bad for everyone else who doesn't like my music. Too bad for them.

When only the best is good enough for you

March 7, 2014

This is a Professional Speaker. Meaning its sounds like a pair of studio monitors. They are without a doubt the best sounding speakers you can get at this price. They are very revealing and you will hear everything, including all the crappy recordings and crappy mp3's. Make sure you use a high quality source with these and have them tuned properly for your vehicle. I work in high-end home audio and have ran car audio shops for many years. Nothing I have heard in this price compares. If you are looking at these, that means you like your sound. Pull the trigger and jump in!

great speakers

January 11, 2014

Awesome sound and Power handling , no distortion even with high Volume . Driver/Midrange could and should produce a little more bass . Tweeters are almost eardrum piercing . Speakers are very heavy , make sure they are properly secured inside doors . Crossover ( one unit for both channels ) is impressive , both in size and performance . It is about as big as an Amplifier . Depending on location in Vehicle settings on Crossover are easy to adjust . Packaging ( Aluminum case ) is what makes these speakers so expensive . Cardboard box with Styrofoam would have sufficed . I do recommend the JBL 660 GTI to anyone who is serious about mobile HI FI . By playing Pink Floyd " Dark Side Of The Moon " is how I checked the performance of these speakers . Note : these speakers should be paired with a Sub Woofer to bring out the full potential .
