I bought this dvd stereo to put in my 1999 Saturn SL2. The installation was seamless (with all the installation parts Sonic sent with it), just had to do a little wiring for the adapter and plug it all in. When I first tried to turn it on, the screen didn't work and i thought; "Oh great!" I soon discovered in the owners manual that there is a special wire that is supposed to be hooked up to your emergency brake lever, but I just grounded the wire (dark green i believe) to one of the support screws and it worked just fine. (I wouldn't recommend this though, it enables the screen to work even while driving which I believe is illegal...) It looked great I thought, except I was rather disappointed when I turned it on and had it working.
The first thing I noticed was that the little blue screen on the front was almost unreadable. If you weren't looking at it at exactly the right angle, you couldn't read it. Second, I noticed the rather cheap feel of the screen when I pressed the release button and pulled it out. I plugged in my ipod with one of the many cords it comes with and played a movie on it. The picture quality was pretty good, (as soon as I found the ipod setting), however the sound quality was a HUGE step backward from my stock head unit. I tried to tweak with the sound settings like 'Bass' and 'Treble' but none of them made much difference. In fact, the sound quality was the ultimate killer of this for me. I was literally embarrassed to have my friends hear it. I have aftermarket speakers in my car that sound great with the stock unit, but with this stereo, the sounded tinny and the bass was almost non-existent (even with stereo and ipod bass up all the way).
I ended up putting my original head unit back in. It sounded WAY better and it had a clock (which this one 'so conveniently' lacked). I still have it in the box in my room. I'm considering returning it, but I figure it would be nice to have on road trips. Overall, I would say skip over this one and get a much better quality DVD stereo for $50 bucks more on eBay.
