Speaker Specifications

Series
This is the manufacturer product line of speakers.
MM / Mobile Monitor (Polk)
Priced Per
Car Speakers are typically sold in pairs so you will receive 2 speakers for each speaker purchase on speakers marked "Priced Per Pair". If a speaker is marked "Priced Per Each" then the speaker is sold individually and each purchase you make will result in 1 speaker. High-powered tweeters, midrange and full-range pro audio for car speakers are typically sold per each speaker.
Pair
Speaker Size
Refers to the size of the speaker measured in inches. Every vehicle has standard application sizes. Please use our vehicle fitment guide for your vehicle's specific speaker sizes if you do not know them.
6" x 9"
Design
The number of individual drivers in a car speaker. Speakers with 2 drivers are known as a 2-way, and 3 drivers are known as a 3-way. Component systems are often referred to as "separates" because the tweeter is not attached to the midwoofer (main speaker driver) and mounts separately in a location such as a door post. Component systems typically come with an external crossover so you can easily adjust the high and low frequencies sent to both the midwoofer and the tweeter. Center channel speakers are great for those looking to have surround sound in their vehicle.
3-way
Tweeter Design
Designs such as cone, dome, semi-dome, balanced dome, and whizzer are most popular. Cone tweeters are simple, efficient and typically are the most reasonably priced. Dome tweeters are used in most home speakers, and provide a smoother and more accurate sound. Semi-dome design is one with a dome placed inside a cone. A Balanced dome driver is a semi-dome with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the driver. A whizzer tweeter is a separate tweeter cone driven by the voice coil of the woofer.
Dome
Tweeter Composition
Materials such as polypropylene, silk, cloth, and paper are the most common, where as many more recent tweeters are now manufactured with composites such as Aluminum, Titanium, Mylar, and other materials.

PEI is an acronym for "Polyetherimide" which is an amorphous, amber transparent, high-performance thermoplastic.

Silk
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Woven Glass Fiber
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Butyl Rubber
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
300 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
125 watts
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
94 dB
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
30 - 25000 Hz
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
2.7
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
3-3/16"
Bottom-Mount Depth
The depth when installed from the bottom of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the top of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
3-1/2"
Cutout Dimensions
Refers to the dimensions of the hole, measured in inches or millimeters, required to contain the speaker.
5-1/2 x 8-3/8

I think I'm gonna need a bigger AMP

October 27, 2010

Replaced 2 Sony Xplod with these and wow what a difference.. these Monsters hits hard.. Now I get a nice clean mid bass and the highs are very clear.. I have a Clarion EQ hooked up to my Pioneer gm6400 just for the 6x9 and I had to turn all the levels back to 0. Unfortunately my amp is only 75w rms at 2ohms x 4 (2channels bridged for a 10" sub) so I have to upgrade my Amp since I cant crank up the volume..My rear deck now rattles so it now its also a Dynamat project.. These speakers brought out things I have not experienced before with my Sonys good and bad ;) Definitely recommend these speakers to anyone but be aware the thin metal on the rear deck will shake so please use sound deadening material. By the way C********** stated these won't fit my 07 Altima but the DB691 would. Maybe because these are rated at 2.7 ohms? But they fit perfectly no mods, brackets etc just can't use the Polk grills..

Polk MM691

July 10, 2014

These speakers separate the tweeters and the woofer with a provided crossover. This alone is a great plus witch allows you to take full advantage of full power to the speakers with NO distortion. These things are awesome. Bass aspect is the best I've ever heard from a 6x9. The highs ARE CRISP ,!!! Highly recommend.

Unsatisfactory...

March 29, 2014

I purchased these speakers after putting the mm6501's in the front doors thinking that the sound would be just as good or even better since it's a bigger speaker. I could not have been more wrong. The mid and high range sounds amazing don't get me wrong, but the low/bass range is not even there. The speaker rattles the car more than it puts out any sound down in that range. The stock speakers I took out for these "bad boys" are going back in the rear and I am returning these until I can find one that actually sounds good instead of turning the rear deck into a rattler.

Sounds good loud

October 15, 2013

I replaced a set of Alpine Type S with these Polk's and the Polk's have a much cleaner sound. These speakers come alive when cranked loud, at lower levels they sound like any other average speaker. I have 75w RMS @ 2ohms going to them and this seems to be a good combo. The magnets on the Polk's are tiny. I don't know the tech behind this as I thought a big powerful magnet was needed for big sound but these deliver without the large magnet. I installed them in a 2005 Dodge 3500 and had to cut the doors so the cages would fit so if you plan on installing them in a similar vehicle be prepared to chop the door a little.

Polk Audio MM691

July 10, 2013

I purchased the Polk Audio MM691 and in short these speakers are the best I've ever owned. They hold up to a lot of abuse and they work well on my Harley Davidson Street Glide in all types of weather conditions. I will purchase these speakers again no questions asked!!!

Great Speakers!

May 20, 2012

These are some of the better 6 X 9s I've ever owned. Very clear highs and balanced sound. The only complaint I might have is that the plastic basket design is not very strong nor does it strike me as high quality. if you squeeze them hard they will flex. It didn't seem to impact the sound negatively and they didn't break. So it isn't a big deal.

Love them

March 17, 2012

I have these in an icechest radio with a Vibe litebox2 amp. They are the clearest speakers I have used so far. I had the db691's in the last radio that I ended up selling. I chose to go with these because they are lighter. When I first saw the magnet I was shocked at how small it was. When I hooked them up I was shocked at how well they sounded. I think that the db's put out a little more bass, and the powerbass 6.5's that I had in another build were a little louder but over all these sound the best. For the price you just can't go wrong. The only little complaint I have is that when you go to mount them you have to have allen wrench for the screws that hold the speakers in. I have all the tools that I could ever want so it wasn't a problem for me. The screw holes in the speakers were a little small too. Most speakers have holes that are big enough to me to use a sharpie to mark where I put the holes in my ice chest. I had to use a small drill bit and mark the holes with that. Everything else was fine. I have friends that have spent a lot more for other speakers at traditional brick and mortar stores and are shocked at the prices I pay for my stuff at SonicElectronix.

Great Clarity

December 20, 2010

Great speakers that allow you to crank it up inside without blasting out the neighbors. You can definitely hear me coming but you don't hear the annoying rattling that most speakers generate. These speakers are with out a doubt the best bang for the buck!

Solid 6x9 Speakers

April 8, 2010

These really are a solid pair of 6x9s, although it says you can run these off of an aftermarket stereo without an amp, I would recommend using one to get the best sound quality out of these. These 6x9s are meant to be played hard and play hard they do!
