Subwoofer Specifications

Subwoofer Series
Each subwoofer manufactured is part of a series. This is the name of the subwoofer's series.
MOFO (Power Acoustik)
Subwoofer Size
Refers to the diameter of the subwoofer, measured in inches.
15"
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
3000 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
1700 watts
Voice Coil(s)
Dual voice coil subs have more wiring flexibility than single voice coils subs; however, single voice coil subwoofers provide easier hookup options for wiring multiple subwoofers in parallel or series. You may also run a dual voice coil (DVC) sub in parallel, series, or combination. A quad voice coil has four voice coils and is equal to two dual voice coil subwoofers as far as wiring goes.
Dual
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
2 ohms
Xmax (millimeters)
Typically measured in millimeters, the Xmax value is the measure of a speaker cone's maximum excursion in one direction while maintaining a linear behavior.
21 mm
Subwoofer Design
This is the design of the subwoofer or the opening of the subwoofer enclosure. Each design has it's own benefits, whether it is a square, circle, or oval.

Round/Circle: This is the typical and common subwoofer design. They have a round cone and are a circle in design.

Square: These woofers are able to achieve a greater cone area in a smaller space. Because of the greater surface area, some square subwoofers will be louder than a round subwoofer of the same size.

Round / Circle
Main Cone Color
This is the color of the speaker's or subwoofer's cone.
Black
Blue
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Cloth Laminated Paper
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Foam
Subwoofer Grille
Most subwoofers are able to accommodate a universal grille; however, some subs include a grille and others have a specific, optional grille available for purchase separately. If "yes", then the subwoofer includes a grille. If "optional (sold separately)" the matching grille will need to be purchased in addition to the sub.
No
Re-Cone Kit Available
Some higher end subwoofers have replaceable cone assemblies. In case of a blown woofer, a recone kit allows for a simple replacement, as opposed to purchasing an entire new subwoofer.
No

Recommended Enclosure Specifications

Recommended Enclosure Type
This is the recommended type of enclosure that the subwoofer should be installed into. Some subwoofers are specially designed for particular enclosures.

Sealed: These enclosures completely enclose the air inside the box. These boxes produce a tight bass.

Ported/Vented: These enclosures have a slot of air to escape from the box. The result is a sound that has more "boom".

Bandpass: These are a combination of both sealed and ported enclosures. They can be very efficient, but require tuning for the best response.

Ported / Vented
Sealed
Minimum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.0 cubic feet
Maximum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.0 cubic feet
Minimum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
3.0 cubic feet
Maximum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
3.0 cubic feet
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
7-7/8"
Cutout Diameter
The actual diameter of the hole you will need to cut out if you are creating a new mounting location for this speaker, or if you are mounting a subwoofer in a box.
14"
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

Break them in clowns.

March 31, 2012

OK. If you know anything about subs its that you need to break them in or else they will blow quick. Thats a givin. Soo im reading these reviews and seeing ohh i blew it in 2 weeks or a week. If you dont break the sub in then it will blow. Same as any sub. But this sub is a monster once you break it in. Dont pound the hell out of it until the sub is loose gotta play it really low for one week then slowly give it power each week. This process takes about 3 weeks. Thats the problem with buying new subs. All in all, great sub.

152X WANGS!!!!

January 8, 2011

I have 2 of the 152x's wired with a Power Acoustik Staxx 5500d wired down to 2 ohm.
Aero Ported in a 99 mitz Galant.

Lets just say this. My front window flexes about 2 1/2 inchs. When it rains and my subs arer hitting rains cums in my front window. I have resealed and busted the seal like 7 times since I had.

I use them as Comp subs. Ive hit:
144.7BD @ FLOOR
143.6DB @WINDOW
142.9DB @SEAT
156.1DB @PORT
127.3DB @OUTSIDE CAR (6FT FROM CAR)

AND THIS IS WITH RESTRICTED AIR SPACE. IM BOUT TO GET A BLAZER AND HOPE TO HITTING CLOSE TO 150DB.

THE ONLY THING I DONT LIKE IS THE BULKY RIM THAT DONT FIT NO 15" BOX LOL. BUT OH WELL
SO OVERALL I HAVE 2. AND WHEN I BLOW THESE I BE SURE TO BUY SOME MORE.

fantastic subwoofer for the price

January 31, 2014

i bought my mofo more than 4 years ago, it has been in 3 different boxes, 2 separate cars and set up in a house for home stereo,

this thing is a beast, i power mine with a boss ph-4000 and its a perfect match, this sub puts out low low bass so you will need some 10s or 8s to pick up that mid bass, but when it hits its note your whole chest gets tight and everything is just flexing,

the one thing i want to point out is these wont take 1000rms each, i had mine tested at 1000rms no clipping and the voice coil heats up real fast, i would recomend 750rms max'

definitely worth the price if you want low chest pounding sound

I have two of these fifteens in an 8 cubic feet ported box I have two 3200 watt amps (one for each at 1800 RMS) and while the sub's do have a long break in period once broken in they bang. The roof of my explorer along with the outer door panels flex half an inch. For the price you can't beat the power handling

Very nice.

September 26, 2012

I had one of these in a 4.2 cuft L-ported box tuned to 37hz in my Camaro. I had 2 MRP-M500's on each coil. So 1000rms. It was stupid loud. I was insanely surprised at how well it sounded for a mainly SPL sub. SQ was nice. Give it 5 *'s for the price!

Got it today and all I can say is wow. Have it running on a hifonics Brutus 1700 wired down to 1ohm and it moves. All I can smell is the wood and glue from the box being blown out of the port. I have it in a scion xb and just pounds. Had two ma audio1200xl's and this thing smokes em. If you decide on these you won't be disappointed.

Loud sub. But over rated wattage

September 25, 2012

I had this sub running on a kicker zx750.1 monoblock amp in a vented box. The amp is rated at like 900 watts max. Power acoustik says this thing is 1700 watts rms, 3000 watts max. No way. Voice coils were burnin up at 3/4 gain on my zx750.1. I was pushing around 600 watts to it and it done very well. Any more than that and the voice coils started to burn up. But power acoustik is known for way over rating their wattage in their producs. But it was loud. This isnt a bad price for this sub. Its a little high, but i just dont belive in power acoustik no more. They have lost my buisness for ever. Their amps suck. And they lie about the max wattage on all their products. I still love shopping through Sonic though. Great service and prices. Fastest shipping out of anyone.

Absolutely the best sub i have owned

May 25, 2011

I have this sub hooked up to a BAMF 5500 and a Power Acoustik 5 farad cap with a red top, its in a 2 cubic ft. box in a single cap pickup, and people can hear me coming from blocks away! Seriously thinking about making a ported box to play it to its full potential. The break in period wasnt as long as i expected. All in all a very versatile sub for all kinds of enclosures.

Awesome Subs, Worth Every Penny

February 23, 2011

These are the best subs I've owned (at least so far)! I had two of these subs hooked up to a Lanzar VCT2610 and they POUNDED HARD, at least until my cheap amp took a $***. Before my crappy amp flat-lined on me, my car was so loud it was unbelievable. Lots of places I go, I often hear from somebody that they heard me at least a minute before they actually see me. I am very impressed with these subs. I am just waiting on my next check to order a HIFONICS HFi2500D from Sonic Electronix to get them back bumping again, I can't wait to hear how hard they'll hit with a REAL amp!

This is a great sub period. I was very impressed with how much sound it puts out and how good those low notes sound. I have a 1000 hifonics mono block amp on it and it handles it very well. I would recommend this sub to everyone wanting that 15 sound without breaking the bank! I love this thing and have had several compliments on the bass it puts out. Only thing is the mounting is a little big. have to cut the box a bit to make it fit. I think all MOFOS are like that though so. Overall an excellent buy.

Amazing Sub

June 17, 2012

I bought this about two weeks ago and wired it down to 1 ohm and hooked it up to a 2500 watt SPL class D amp and it sounds amazing. It is louder than all of my friends who mostly have 2 12's in their car. My friend told me that he could hear me coming down the street a good 2 minutes before he saw me, and even in my saturn sl nothing rattles and it has a very clean sound. tuned to around 35Hz and hitting about 140dB. I would definitely recommend this sub to anyone and I would most definitely buy Power Acoustik again. Using an aero ported box as well.

June 29, 2015

I highly recommend the mofo for the money. If you build the box to specs supplied with the sub it handles the power they say and get loud and stay clear to there max excursion. I've used many different brands and the will beat any sub you can buy for under $300. I've been beating up and down the block flexing my doors like a mofo.

One of the best sub's I've ever own. Just one sealed was making my entire roof of my car flex. At 25 Hertz. Hits lows like no tomorrow. Only thing I have left to say is. Make you toon it right and hook it to an amp that fits its RMS rating for the best quality. I only put 4/5 stars for durability only because I blew it. However that was my fault. I'm buying 2 more plus 2 mofo 122x. I have an entire power acoustic system. Love it!

For the money this sub pounds harder than any other sub ive ever owned, and ive owned about 50 or 60 in my 19 years of car audio. Im running it on a lanzar opti 4001d at 1 ohm so its getting 2600 rms clean and so far its taking it not sure for how long but I think nice clean power is the secret to not blowing up subs so it should be good. I have two of these. had a pa gothic 5500 pushing them at two ohms it hits pretty good. The amp took a poop after a week so I decided to get 2 HIFONICS BRUTUS 1700.1 amps wired each amp to its own sub individually both at 1 ohm and these subs started smelling, they cannot handle true 1700 rms. My amps were only 1/2 way up and my bass knob at 1/2 . Do the math these subs are over rated and can't handle what they claim. Upgrading to HCCA's. 95 impala ss

February 11, 2011

I bought 2 of these subs about six mounts ago they are in my 92 chevy truck on a 3000 watt amp pushing around 1300rms at 2ohm and they pound. I recommend these subs to anyone who wants a hell of a lot of bass at low price. And also these subs are way over rated

November 2, 2013

i bought on mofo 15" dual 2ohm subwoofer. i have it powered by a soundstorm ev3000d amplifier. the amp is cranked up halfway and the sub just pounds really nice and solid all day long constantly and steadily with no worries of getting destructed. i love this subwoofer and setup. i am scared to hear it pound any harder. ha ha this sub i would highly recommend to anyone with/ or without a budget. u will not be disappointed with it. its a fan-nominal subwoofer. it blew my mind. i bought the sub and sub box as a package deal with it.

MONSTER SUBS FOR MONSTER BASS!!!

May 17, 2012

I recently had 3 Kicker CVX 15's, but these MOFO's take the cake!!! Dont get me wrong those CVX's were super loud, but these MOFO'S provide alot more impact. People used to just be able to hear me coming, but with these MOFOs they can hear as well as feel me coming. Subs are in a sealed enclosure so I know I'm not getting the best performance from them, but with the bass I have, I am truly satisfied. Any more would be just too much. Unless you can afford some mid level RE AUDIO, DC AUDIO, or ALPINE TYPE R'S these are the best you can get on a budget. The best feature of all: these subs can be reconed!!!

INSANE subwoofer!

February 21, 2012

I decided to take a chance on the mofo's and im glad i did. These subs are crazy loud, can take a beating and not get hot. I'm running 2 of them on a 5500 PA gothic series amp and wow ive heard a lot of systems from kicker to JL audiobahn and ive had alot of my own systems and this one i have to say is by far the loudest. Shakes my whole car and the windows of my house. For the price they are a steal, they should be priced at 250 - 300. I feel they are that good they're a great deal, dont hesitate, buy a pair, they sound good in sealed or ported. I'm running sealed with 2.3 cubic ft per chamber. Anyways all and all 5 star product good job power acoustik.

Lol @ My first Review (Mofos)

November 4, 2011

I posted this before. i didnt know any thing really about car audio. I've learned alot. I got rid of these and got a single AudioQue 18 hdc3 ran on a planet audio Rxd2400.1. And i gained like 4db.

But i will say i miss these. Wished i had them back to put the TL in and mic them with real power. I didrun on em on a sundown 2000d (1 @ a time) and they took it and got loud. So all in all not bad bang for your buck.

Just received

October 5, 2009

This subwoofer just came in on 10-05-09 hooked it up to a boss chaos special edition amp till new one came (ran it at 4Ohms 1200rms supposedly didn't seem like it) was hitting pretty good on a crappy amp but once the 4000d Pa bamf comes in should step the game up on the sub big time.
Pro's good looking subwoofer, Hit's low's better then a average "15" for the price.
Con's doesnt fit any average 15inch box(prefab other or other box not made for it) had to jigsaw the out rim a little bit so the sub could fit.
Good buy for price its a power hungry sub so make shure ur amp can perform. I will buy another one in future satisfied with product

2nd Mofo still going strong

April 4, 2014

I was very cautious with the first one but after I put the second one in I realized they handle pretty good power. They still stink a little from time to time. I pulled out my first one after a month and it still looked brand new. Im running 1 lanzar opti 4001d on the pair til my other opti shows up then strapping the amps @2ohm for about 8kW. Ill let ya know if they survive a lot of power:-)

MOFO is a "BEAST"!!!!!

October 16, 2010

I bought this sub because I wanted DEEP BASS! Be careful what you ask for. Currently it's being powered by a Power Acoustik Gothic 3000 wired down to 1ohm. Cabinet is 4.2 cu. ft ported to 35hz with a lot of bracing. Very impressed. No one believes I only have 1 15 in the trunk. Definitely recommend this setup. Make sure you have plenty of mids and highs. I'm running 4 6.5" and 2 10's for mid bass with 6 pyramid TW46 tweeters. Powered by a Power Acoustik 1600-4 and 1250-2. Power Acoustik head unit and pre-amp. I get compliments from everyone regardless of the type of music. Make sure you have a capacitor it is power hungry. I'm running a PA 20 Farad w/ my set up.

Decent Sub

November 1, 2013

For the money this is a decent entry level sub. However be aware if you run a single one, DO NOT CONNECT 1 OHM load, instructions state this is fine one of 2 ways to connect, its 1 ohm or 4 ohm. with the BAMF400d1 at 1 ohm expect the voice coils to burn up in under 5 minutes with a tiny gain, after fighting for replacement and getting it, at 4 ohms this works fine, just cant put nearly the power to it. it sounds ok for a 15 with 4 ohm, I expected better. I suggest going to a higher end sub and slightly smaller size to get the same or better sound for about the same money

Best Answer: Well, I LOVE bottom and the MOFO-152X is the TRUTH! I was a Cerwin Vega man from the early 80's, until earlier this year, when I purchased a MOFO -152X to try something new. Glad I did! I have 1 152X in a 96 Caddy, powered by the Power Acoustik CPT 1 5500, wired at 1 ohm!!! Oh YEAH!!! U can feel the power! Try them u might just like them. But I don't knot about 2 tho, lol

what kind of amp to I get?
A shopper on Sep 2, 2014
Best Answer: Don't get a boss or power acoustic amp based on those ratings. Look at the rms rating on the amp. Look at the internals of the amp not the external size and max watts rating of the amp because a boss amp will only ever make its max power rating when lightning strikes it or at 50% distortion which is useless. The fuse rating is a good indication. If it says 2000 watts with a 25 amp fuse you automatically know it's bs

I have never had anything other than the original factory sound system, so I am relatively new to this. I have just purchased one of the mofo 152Xs. What amp will work with this? Also, the previous owner of my vehicle took his sub but left the wiring in. Will I have to re do all of the wiring or should it work with my sub as well?
JLCunningham on May 4, 2015
Best Answer: Well first off the subwoofer you ordered is a massive upgrade over a stock system so you will need to upgrade your factor speakers in the car as well if your planning on hearing any of your highs or mids. As for the amp I would go with something around 2000 rms I know the subwoofer is rated at 1700 rms but you will lose some power to wiring and charging and etc.For the wires left in your car if the main hot and ground wire is at least 2 gauge or bigger you should be fine but 0 gauge would be preferred. If you do upgrade your highs and mids they should amplified as well.

I'm debating what 15 to buy I burned up a Mofo 122X in less than 10 minutes on a Hifonics BRX 1200.1 @1olm so I know they are way over rated on rms. But my question is about xmax. Does this sub really have an xmax of 22 or is that really the x mech? I know the power rating is deceptive so I'm thinking the xmax rating is as well.
A shopper on Apr 15, 2015
Best Answer: Well I have a MOFO -152X wired at 1 ohm to a Power Acoustik CPT 5500, and they work great in my Cadillac. I have pushed both a few times and no problems. I think all audio equipment is over rated somewhat, and it's about how it sounds as you listen inside your vehicle. From 1985 until 2013, I was a Cerwin Vega freak when it came to Subs. I was skeptical about even trying the 152X, but in 2013 I did and to me, they are giving Cerwin Vega, hell. Good luck.

Ive purchased the Mofo 152X as well but bought the RZ1 5500.1. Im putting just ONE in a 2009 Honda Accord. I got the wiring and everything but im stuck on the box. Ports? Tuning? If so what to? 45Hz? Also should I build the box a certain way?
nicholas c on May 17, 2015
Best Answer: The smallest box would be about 4 cut and I'd tune it to 35. Doesn't really matter what kind of port. I like slot ports myself and I always try to have the port as far away from the sub as possible seems to load sub better than having the port right next to the sub. The port should be about 15 x 3 18 inches deep to get 35 out of 4 cut. Make sure to take it easy on the mofo at the start or you'll kill the coil.
