The Rockford Fosgate Power series is the finest in audiophile grade sound. Since the original introduction of the Power series, Rockford raised the bar for high-end car audio products. The most recent Power speakers integrate unique Rockford Fosgate technology and advanced engineering that result in the best Power sound to date. The patent pending VAST surround provides a larger surface area for the cone. Vast, or Vertical Attach Surround Technique gives about 25% more effect radiating cone, which improves both the efficiency and maximum output capabilities. The new flexfit basket utilizes holes and slots as opposed to the traditional speaker mounting holes. This gives the speakers an easier fit into OEM opening, as well as a secure fit.

To separate the mid and high frequencies, Rockford uses an Integrated Concealed Crossover, or an ICC. The ICC hides in the basket of the woofer and is not visible. The result is a simpler installation, while preserving incredible sound. The full-range coaxial speakers also feature an offset mounted tweeter. The Offset Cantilever Coaxial Mounted Tweeter removes any frequency response abnormalities due to acoustic reflection between the woofer and the tweeter.

Speaker Specifications

Series
This is the manufacturer product line of speakers.
Power (Rockford Fosgate)
Priced Per
Car Speakers are typically sold in pairs so you will receive 2 speakers for each speaker purchase on speakers marked "Priced Per Pair". If a speaker is marked "Priced Per Each" then the speaker is sold individually and each purchase you make will result in 1 speaker. High-powered tweeters, midrange and full-range pro audio for car speakers are typically sold per each speaker.
Pair
Speaker Size
Refers to the size of the speaker measured in inches. Every vehicle has standard application sizes. Please use our vehicle fitment guide for your vehicle's specific speaker sizes if you do not know them.
6" x 8"
Design
The number of individual drivers in a car speaker. Speakers with 2 drivers are known as a 2-way, and 3 drivers are known as a 3-way. Component systems are often referred to as "separates" because the tweeter is not attached to the midwoofer (main speaker driver) and mounts separately in a location such as a door post. Component systems typically come with an external crossover so you can easily adjust the high and low frequencies sent to both the midwoofer and the tweeter. Center channel speakers are great for those looking to have surround sound in their vehicle.
2-way
Tweeter Design
Designs such as cone, dome, semi-dome, balanced dome, and whizzer are most popular. Cone tweeters are simple, efficient and typically are the most reasonably priced. Dome tweeters are used in most home speakers, and provide a smoother and more accurate sound. Semi-dome design is one with a dome placed inside a cone. A Balanced dome driver is a semi-dome with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the driver. A whizzer tweeter is a separate tweeter cone driven by the voice coil of the woofer.
Dome
Tweeter Composition
Materials such as polypropylene, silk, cloth, and paper are the most common, where as many more recent tweeters are now manufactured with composites such as Aluminum, Titanium, Mylar, and other materials.

PEI is an acronym for "Polyetherimide" which is an amorphous, amber transparent, high-performance thermoplastic.

Aluminum
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Polypropylene-Carbon Fiber Hybrid
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Butyl Rubber
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
160 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
80 watts
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
88 dB
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
55 - 22,000 Hz
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
4 ohms
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
2-5/8"
Cutout Dimensions
Refers to the dimensions of the hole, measured in inches or millimeters, required to contain the speaker.
5" x 7-3/8"
Speaker Grilles
A grating or screen of metal or plastic bars or wires, mounted in front of a speaker as protection. If yes, the speakers will include matching speaker grilles. If no, there are no grilles included.

2003 Expedition

October 19, 2013

These speakers DO NOT fit a 2003 expedition without modifying the door panel cut outs. It says in the description they fit the front and back doors but I just installed 4 of them and had to make cut outs in the doors to except the weird flange on 2 of the mounting holes on each speaker. It was not fun. ALSO ! the front speaker cut outs in the doors are not deep enough. The existing space is 2 1/4" and the speakers are 2 1/2" deep. they sound great but require a lot of work to install

Nice speakers

September 30, 2013

I have four of these ran off a Hifonics Brutus 640.4 and they sound great. They are clear and very powerful. I wish they had a crossover though. And their magnets are huge. Make sure they will fit first. And the tweeter is a bit fragile. Other then that, love em.

Bad Tweeter Durability

August 4, 2012

Pros: -Very powerful speakers -Full range, people ask if I have a sub (I don't yet) -Very Clear across all frequencies. Cons: Tweeter looks awesome and allows more cone area, but they are very flimsy and die easy, I've had one go out completely on me and one that is distorting at higher volumes. *Disclaimer, I'm not an idiot, I am feeding the speakers off of a Rockford Fosgate R600-5 that puts ~50 watts rms of power on each channel, these speakers are rated at 80 watts rms, and I never put the gain past 50% and the volume on the head unit never exceeds 75% and I have the gain set to low power. Why the tweeters die, is beyond my ability to comprehend.*

Pretty nice

January 24, 2011

These speakers look very well built and very durable. I didn't have my system tuned correctly when I had them in, so the bass was a little shallow but they did sound great.

Great Speakers

December 23, 2010

I bought these speakers to replace the worn out speakers in my 2003 Ford F-250. Because they require minimum 75watts RMS, I also purchased a 600 watt amp. I installed them myself using the included instructions and common sense. They sound totally cool. The Highs, Mids and the Lows are clear and crisp. Even with the volume cranked way up, the sound never distorts. I would compared the sound quality to a high set of headphones.

Rockford Fosgate Power T1682

November 17, 2010

Bought 4 of these speakers to replace stock Ford Thunderbird speakers, I'm very impressed with build quality, they fit perfectly without any drama. The highs and mid-range are about as good as they can get, I thought that the bass was good but not as good in comparison with highs and mid-range, I bought a sub-woofer 8" and that filled the bill as far as bass was concerned, so these are excellant speakers, but if your a bass freak you may be a little disappointed, it could also have been that my settings for bass in the head-unit were not set quite right. I still recommend these speakers.

Great speakers

July 14, 2010

Just got these speakers and installed them. They are replacing the old RF power series speakers, and I can say that these sound better than the old model. The sound is nice and crisp, and they look extremely well built. The midbass is ok so far, i think they have to loosen up as RF's tend to be a little stiff from the factory. I would recommend these

awesome sound

March 20, 2010

I have these in a 08 ford f-150 in the rear doors. they replaced a component set by eclipse which didn't handle the power from my infinity kappa four amp that drives them. the sound quality of these coaxials is amazing they are the most precise sounding speakers i have heard. The only complaint I have is that they send no wires or crimp connects with them.

Clear as can be

March 14, 2010

Awesome 6x8s. Blew my replacement Pioneers right out of the water and I haven't even tuned the T400-4 pushing the T1682s yet. Definitely recommend. Just installed 4 in my 99 Explorer. Incredible clean sound, and all I currently have is a Sony deck with 2V preouts, old RCAs, and a RF T400-4. Cant wait for my new deck and RCAs to come in! But as the reviewer below stated, there are no quick disconnects that come with it

Power!!!

February 21, 2010

I have a set of theses in my 02 Lincoln LS (direct fit) and they sound as rich as owning an oil well does. I'm running them on a quarter of what they can handle and they already have great midbass and smooth yet crisp highs. When I get my 4 channel hooked up they're gonna be absurd. The design of these really drew me in and I'm thankful for that now. You can't go wrong with these, or Sonic's price or the free shipping. Get some.

Do Not Even Waste Your Money

May 11, 2012

These Speakers sound great at first, have had them installed for six months, and now they are the reason i will never buy rockford fosgate anything, The design is horrible! the tweets on both of the speakers snapped right in half. My Whole car is dynamated 2 times, and the sub is so loud it snapped the tweet and the tweeter mount on both speakers! Terrible choice if you are building a system with alot of bass, they do not last long at all, tweeter gets distorted way to fast.

not as "clean" as the previous model

November 26, 2010

Bought these to replace a T1682C set I've been running for a couple of years. New model looked impressive, especially compared to the older model, but when I installed them I was disappointed. powered off an arc audio 4150, I gave them a chance to break-in. The midrange is "muddy", it just doesn't have the clarity of the previous model. took them out and reinstalled the older set. The only advantage the T1682 has is it can handle slightly more power and it has a little more midbass.
