If you're really good at making something, why change?
These midbass drivers from ID have been around for a long time, and into a second production run labelled the v2. The only difference from what I can see (never owned the v1) is the surround on the v2 is thinner/ narrower than the v1.
The construction of the basket is of some composite material which ID say is supposed to be less resonant than metallic ones. The basket strength I would think is the important factor here. The ferrite magnet is huge (I'd say around 50oz) for a 6.5" and is definitely a heavy little bugger.
The overall construction quality looks to be high and the power handling seems in line with the vc and magnet structure.
Sound quality....while I must admit that I am still breaking in my set, these sound pretty darn good out of the box.
I would compare these speakers with much higher priced models from other manufacturers, and since I have no allegiances I can name fingers and point names.... they blow away my Boston SR60's, they demolish Rainbows, Alpine and CDT's. If I had to compare these, they would be on par with the Diamond audio Hex series, the DLS reference series, the Boston Pro Series and the Morel Tempos.
