Got this wire to upgrade my big 3. I also purchased a name-brand 0 gauge amp wiring kit. The difference between the two wires is night and day.

The first thing I noticed was the weight. The weight of the wire from my amp kit was way more than this wire. I weighed them both. The 20' of this wire, on its spool, weighed 4.4 lbs. The 21' of my amp kit wire weighed 8.2 lbs.

Also, I can't really tell is this wire is actually copper or not. It is completely silver when looking at the end of it after cutting it, whereas the wire from my kit was goldish copper-colored as you would expect copper to be. It seems like it may be steel, as that would make sense for the weight as well.

The manufacturer's website claims that the wire is copper, but lists the same overall weight for a 20ft spool, so I don't know what I'm missing.

If you are going to use this wire, you probably want to treat is as 2 gauge as opposed to 0. I was actually able to use 4 gauge ring terminals and just spread them out a little bit to fit all the wire in. The 0 gauge ring terminals I had were way too big for this wire.

On the plus side, after using this wire to upgrade my big 3, I have no voltage problems on my factory electrical system with a fairly large (~1800 watt RMS) system, no capacitor, factory battery, system cranked up, air conditioner and lights on. I did keep the factory charge wire in place as well.

In short: Not really 0 gauge, but for upgrading engine wiring it worked fine for me.

Customer Testimonial

I made several phone calls with technical questions about installation of a Kenwood Excelon 792 receiver. All of the people were quick and courteous with their responses...and very knowledgeable..helping me step-by-step on a couple occasions. Thanks for making my installation experience worthwhile!
