Speaker Specifications

Series
This is the manufacturer product line of speakers.
Type-R (Alpine)
Priced Per
Car Speakers are typically sold in pairs so you will receive 2 speakers for each speaker purchase on speakers marked "Priced Per Pair". If a speaker is marked "Priced Per Each" then the speaker is sold individually and each purchase you make will result in 1 speaker. High-powered tweeters, midrange and full-range pro audio for car speakers are typically sold per each speaker.
Pair
Speaker Size
Refers to the size of the speaker measured in inches. Every vehicle has standard application sizes. Please use our vehicle fitment guide for your vehicle's specific speaker sizes if you do not know them.
6-1/2"
Design
The number of individual drivers in a car speaker. Speakers with 2 drivers are known as a 2-way, and 3 drivers are known as a 3-way. Component systems are often referred to as "separates" because the tweeter is not attached to the midwoofer (main speaker driver) and mounts separately in a location such as a door post. Component systems typically come with an external crossover so you can easily adjust the high and low frequencies sent to both the midwoofer and the tweeter. Center channel speakers are great for those looking to have surround sound in their vehicle.
2-way
Tweeter Design
Designs such as cone, dome, semi-dome, balanced dome, and whizzer are most popular. Cone tweeters are simple, efficient and typically are the most reasonably priced. Dome tweeters are used in most home speakers, and provide a smoother and more accurate sound. Semi-dome design is one with a dome placed inside a cone. A Balanced dome driver is a semi-dome with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the driver. A whizzer tweeter is a separate tweeter cone driven by the voice coil of the woofer.
Dome
Tweeter Composition
Materials such as polypropylene, silk, cloth, and paper are the most common, where as many more recent tweeters are now manufactured with composites such as Aluminum, Titanium, Mylar, and other materials.

PEI is an acronym for "Polyetherimide" which is an amorphous, amber transparent, high-performance thermoplastic.

Silk
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Hybrid Layered Pulp
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Santoprene Rubber
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
300 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
100 watts
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
88 dB
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
65 - 28,000 Hz
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
4 ohms
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

No
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
2-3/8"
Speaker Grilles
A grating or screen of metal or plastic bars or wires, mounted in front of a speaker as protection. If yes, the speakers will include matching speaker grilles. If no, there are no grilles included.

wicked!

December 1, 2013

I put these in the rear doors of my 09 Jeep grand cherokee. They opened up the sound range immensely. They hit low without distorting while screaming the heavy metal highs at me. Love em! Definitely going to buy more for my wife's car that uses 6.5 throughout! The guy that gave em 1 star must have thought they were 1000 watt subwoofers.

Sweet sounding speakers for price.

December 25, 2013

I have two sets in my '09 Impreza. The fronts are in factory location with semi-custom adapters and I also used some NVX SDDK12 sound deadening material. The fronts are powered by bridging the four channels of a 5 channel amp. They each get about 120 watts RMS up front and that seems plenty. The rear door speakers are powered by the Pioneer AVH-P3300BT DVD Receiver H.U. Sub: Kicker Solo Classic 10" DVC (4 ohm/coil)- Parallel, for 2 ohm load on the Sub channel of the 5 channel amp. 500 watts RMS for sub. Very small 0.6 cu. ft. sealed enclosure in trunk. I use about 25% of the power that this system has on a regular basis, turning it all the way is painful, but still has very little distortion. At even very high volume levels (75%) it sounds perfect. These speakers are durable, they've been installed for almost two full years and still going strong. Polks db 651s were in there for a few years before the Alpines, and they came out rusted and brittle. They were "marine" grade supposedly. These composite cages will probably be better off in that harsh environment.

Awesome

May 31, 2012

Had Alpine factory speakers in my previous car (Dodge) and they were awesome, so I immediately looked at Alpine for the new car. These speakers don't disappoint. Many people suggest using an amp with them. I'm only using my head unit; didn't want to go through the extra work of installing an amp. It's pretty loud as things are, but I would love to hear these speakers at full power with an amp. Very happy overall. Great price, quality speaker, sounds excellent.

Super clear sound. They do have some bass which is cool and all but I have the bass turned all the way down and just bump the 12 inch in the back. Paired with Alpine Type-R front component speakers. Everyone who rides in my car cannot help but comment on how crisp the system is. :) very happy.

Amazing Sound

March 20, 2012

After purchasing the Alpine 12" Type-R sub I was in awe by its performance. This one 12" sub in a ported box blew my two 12" MTX's in a ported box away (Both the Alpine and the MTX's ran off of a Boss 2500 watt 5 channel amp). So purchasing these Alpine SPR-60 6-1/2" two way speakers was a no brainer. Needless to say Alpine did not let me down. These speakers have the greatest balance of power and clarity I have heard from any other speakers in this price range. I have two sets ( 1 installed in my front doors and the other in the rear doors) being feed 120 watts a piece! I can turn these bad boys up as much as I want and I still have yet to hear any noticable distortion. These combined with the Alpine Type-R 12" sub, I have an unbeatable system for a unbelievable price.

Great Speakers

September 7, 2014

I've been an devoted Harley rider for many years and I've either ridden Ultra Classics or Street Glides. With either one, it has always been a must to change out the speakers on these bikes. The Alpine SPR-60 6.5 speakers have proven to be a good investment. They are a little pricy but well worth the money. I have used 2ohms and 4 ohms systems in the past and found that the 4 ohms systems seam to sound clearer and provide more bang for the buck. I used Arc Audio adapter rings, a Hawg Wired amp and a set of Alpine speakers on my latest project. Talk about a perfect match up. The sound is incredible and clear at high speeds. The speakers are rated a 2-100 RMS and I run about 100 watts through each of them. This is truly a loud speaker with clarity. So far, no problems running them in inclement weather. If your wanting to upgrade the stereo on your Harley cruiser, I highly recommend these speakers. You will need an amp as stock Harley systems are 2 ohms and these are 4 ohms speakers. Happy motoring and ride safe.

Victory Cross Country Install

February 19, 2014

Installed into a Victory Cross Country with a RF PBR300X2 amp. These speakers can really take the power! Clean highs, good midrange and I can feel the bass in my handlebars. I blew a set mm651 polks in about 4 hrs with the same amp. Thanks Alpine! Time to replace the speakers in the Camaro! I can't have my bike sounding better.

Hi, I'm going to be upgrading my entire audio system and i have a question for you.
I'm going be buying the Rockford Fosgate P3-1X10 subwoofer, 4 Alpine SPR-60 speakers (2 for the front 2 for the rear) and I would be the Pioneer DEH-X8600BS for my deck, what kind of amp would i need to power the sub and speakers properly? Thanks for your time

Best Answer: Match the rms and the ohms with the ratings on your sub . the mids and highs just get a low wattage 4channel amp and you will be fine. If you have the money buy PPI if money is an issue just get lightning audio. Lightning audio is good for the price and its basically fosgate. If your pioneer rca voltage out is 4 volts you should be set. It's recommend running another car audio battery if you don't want your lights to dim at night

can you run a seperate type r tweeter off of these for more highs, like being a 3 way componet set?
A shopper on Aug 2, 2014
Best Answer: Yes you can. I did the same exact thing. the spr-60 and the spr-10tw wired in parallel( + to+ and - to - ). Using a hifonics brx-320 pushing 160x2. so wired in parallel they each get 80 watts max. about perfect. or use extra channels and run them solo on them, depending on your setup. remember though that wiring in parallel reduces the ohms from 4 to 2 per channel. It wont affect the speakers at all, but the amp will notice. make sure your amp is 2 ohm stable/ capable. mine sounds great. no problems at all.... and good choice with the Alpines, I wont buy any other speakers. hope this helps. good luck....Chris
