In-Dash Receiver Specifications

Receiver Size

Single DIN: 1 DIN dimensions will work with all single DIN installation kits we have to offer. Single DIN radios are the most common size for after-market stereos.

Single DIN slot with flip-out screen: The DIN stereo includes a retractable, flip-out screen. Before purchasing, make measurements to be sure there is no interference with dash accessories such as A/C vents or shift levers.

Single DIN slot with a larger face: Standard single DIN size, but the display is larger then the standard single DIN size. Due to the nature of the larger face, problems may arise when installing in particular vehicles. These stereos are great for single DIN slots where you want a larger screen.

1.5 DIN: This size is very uncommon in vehicles, however this size opening is most commonly found in Chrysler and Chevrolet vehicles.

Double DIN: Approximately 4-inches in height, this size is becoming more common every year. Prior to 2000, this size was typically only found in Japanese vehicles such as those made by Honda or Toyota. Now, it is becoming more popular for many vehicles to be fit with a Double DIN opening.

Single DIN
Faceplate Security

Detachable / Removable faceplate security: The most common anti-theft feature. It allows you to take the faceplate with you, thus disallowing operation, which deters theft.

Security Codes: Mainly a feature in high end video units which do not have a detachable face / screen. Once the unit is uninstalled (or stolen), a security code (or PIN) is required upon reinstallation. Though you no longer have your unit after the theft, the thief also does not have your security code, which makes the unit useless. The hope is the thief knows which units have security codes and he/she chooses not to steal your unit because of the security code.

Ghost technology: This is not commonly used, but can be found primarily in a select number of 2004-2005 head units. It creates an illusion that no unit is installed by appearing completely black when turned off. Potential thieves may steer clear because it appears as though no head unit is installed.

Anti-theft covers: Similar to ghost and hiding faces because they only create an illusion that the face/unit is not in place.

ESN: Stands for Electronic Serial Number. Allows the disabling of the radio and allows tracking if it is stolen.

Detachable
Motorized Faceplate
Some in-dash car stereos feature a motorized faceplate that moves to expose a CD or DVD slot. This is a convenient feature that allows the front display to be larger and easier to read. The positioning of the monitor gives you control over the angle you would like to view information on the stereo.
Yes
Remote Control
Allows control of specific features and functions from a remote control. Typically they are used to prevent button wear on your radio, or to allow easier navigation of menus.
Yes
Peak Power Output
This form of power rating refers to the maximum amount of power an electronic device can handle or output in an instant without damage occurring. Often times this maximum is achieved during a brief musical burst, such as a drum accent, or low bass hit.

Some manufacturers display peak power ratings on the face of their products to increase the appeal to consumers. The RMS power rating is more accurate, and we recommend using it for product comparison.

52 watts x 4 channels
RMS Power Output
The amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS rating, the louder and cleaner your music sounds. The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.
17 watts x 4 channels
Preamp RCA Outputs
RCA outputs, commonly known as preamp outputs, allow you to connect one or sometimes multiple external amplifiers. An in-dash receiver will commonly have one, two or three sets of RCA outputs that can be used to connect external amplifiers and other components. One pair of RCA outputs will typically provide a full range signal that can be used for most subwoofer or speaker amplifiers. Two pairs of RCA outputs can typically be configured as four full range signals, or also as two full range and two subwoofer signals. Three sets of RCA outputs will almost always produce four speaker signals and two subwoofer signals for use with multiple amplifiers.
3 Pairs (Front, Rear, and Subwoofer)
Dedicated Subwoofer Preamp RCA Output
A dedicated output that has a built-in low-pass crossover for specific connection to a subwoofer amplifier that powers a low frequency driver, typically a subwoofer.
Yes
Preamp Voltage
The preamp output rating is measured in volts (V). The higher the rating, the stronger the signal. This results in less unwanted noise being picked up.
2 volts
Built-In Equalizer
The number of graphic or parametric equalizer bands the stereo receiver is equipped with. The more EQ options, the more you will be able to adjust your music to your liking.
3-band parametric equalizer with preset and custom options
Display Type
The type of display on your receiver refers to the monitor that is used to display the source information such as song names, radio stations, or track times.

Dot-Matrix Text Display: A simple display which uses dots in specific illuminated color(s) to light up and form letters or numbers that are displayed on the receiver.

Graphic or Motion Display: Typically found in mid to high-end receivers and give your text information and receiver more life by adding motion, backgrounds, or multiple colors to your display. There are types of graphic displays such as 3D Graphic, Motion, and OEL (Organic Electroluminescent) displays. They can range from one color to full color displays and typically allow you to select from one of many built-in animations, background images, screensavers or other graphics to enhance your experience and add an extra bit of personality to your system. Some units also come with software that allow you to load your own customizable pictures or animations.

LCD Monitor Display: Can be as small as 2" or as large as 10". Some LCD displays are motorized for angle adjustment. LCD monitors display full motion video playback as well as your standard text such as track status, radio station information and more depending on the receiver's features.

TFT-LCD Monitor
Display Color
The display color refers to the color of the text and or graphics on the receiver.

Multi-Color: When more than one color is on the display, for example one part of the text is white, while the other part is blue.

Variable-Color: The display colors can be changed by the user. If the default color of text/display is blue for example, the user can change the settings to where the color turns to red. Variable color displays are typically described in detail in the item's description.

TFT-LCD Display: In-dash receivers with a video screen that display multiple colors and often times video such as DVD, navigation or other video sources.

Full Color
Button Color
Refers to the color of the physical buttons on the unit.
White
CD Signal-to-Noise
CD Signal-to-Noise Ratio is a key specification that is often overlooked by newbies. The CD S/N Ratio measures how well the CD player silences background noise. Higher ratings in decibels (dB) indicates less noise, and generally a cleaner signal.
Not Specified By Manufacturer
CEA-2006 Compliant
Amplifiers that have been tested to meet specific standards. When a car amplifier meets these standards, you can be sure that it will be able to produce the amount of power specified by the official CEA-2006 rating. Usually, these rating consist of the following items:
  • RMS Power
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio

This rating applies to both external car amplifiers, as well as the amplifiers inside of in-dash stereos.

Audio / Video Inputs

USB Input
This feature refers to whether or not the receiver features an input to connect a USB device via standard USB or mini-USB. The USB input may be a connection on the front or rear of the unit with an extension cable for connecting devices to the receiver. Some units have an optional input that allows for a USB adapter to be purchased separately and used with the unit.
Front
Additional Audio/Video Inputs
These inputs enable the unit to receive an audio or video signal from a separate source. There are many different types of connections and ways to accomplish this. Most common are RCA Composite cables and 3.5mm mini-jack plugs.

RCA Composite Inputs
These are your typical red, white, and yellow RCA composite cables that are common among devices with audio and video inputs. The red and white cables are dedicated for audio. The red cable is for the right channel and the white is for the left channel. The yellow cable is specifically for the video signal. Because this type of auxiliary cable contains 2 channels of audio, it will support stereo sound.

3.5mm
This is commonly referred to as a mini-jack or a headphone jack. It is a 3.5mm plug that transfers audio only. There is a right and left audio channel on the plug which allows for stereo sound playback.

3.5mm AV Input
These plugs look similar to the common 3.5mm mini-jack, however they carry a third channel dedicated for video.

Optional
This means that an auxiliary input is possible, but only with the use of an optional accessory. These optional adapters will sometimes use the CD Changer port or other port on the back of a unit that might restrict the use of other expandability features. These accessories are typically sold separately.

Front 3.5mm

Monitor Screen Features

Touchscreen
If a unit is touchscreen capable, you can control a majority of it's functions by touching the screen.
Yes
Screen Size
This is the size of the monitor on the unit. It is measured diagonally and in inches. The bigger the number the larger the screen.
7"
Monitor Angle Adjustment

Backward:
This means that the unit is able to tilt backwards so that the proper viewing angle can be achieved. On single DIN flip out monitors, this type of pivot means that the bottom of the screen stays stationary while the top of the screen retracts. On Double DIN units this means that the bottom of the screen slides forward while the top of the screen moves down, resulting in a backwards angle tilt.

Forward:
This means that the unit is able to tilt forward so that the proper viewing angle can be achieved. On single DIN flip out monitors, a forward pivot keeps the bottom of the screen stationary while the top of the screen moves forward. On select Double DIN units, a forward tilt is sometimes referred to as a reverse tilt. The bottom of the screen remains in the same position while the top of the screen moves forward.

Left/Right Angle (Horizontal):
Some monitors allow the display to be rotated to the left or right in order to have the best viewing angle possible.

Slide In/Out:
A feature mainly found in select Kenwood units. It allows the entire screen to slide in and out. This is different from a forward/backward tilt in that the entire screen moves forward or backwards as opposed to just the top or bottom.

The Radio is great and does what it says, the install kit needs some cutting, also Usb does not work with apple iphone or ipod you must use the bluetooth or aux in. I like the bluetooth option very good for hands free and phone calls and playing music on the radio.

Review Power Acoustik PTID-8920B

February 26, 2014

I have only owned the Power Acoustik PTID-8920B for about a month and installed it. a good feature about this product is that you can set it to manually open/ close the display so when the gearshift on my pickup is in park the monitor doesn't open or close when I shut the truck off. The sound it very crisp and the video is crystal clear. Another item I like is the Bluetooth. My call history is right at my fingertips displayed on the monitor and the music is also synced. I don't have to use my phone at all. I can just use the radio to dial or receive phone calls. 1 item I would change however is the clock settings. when the monitor is closed the radio doesn't display the time. 1 last FYI, Use the remote to turn the volume up and down. The knob is slick and hard to turn. This receiver is a good value for the price.

Works fine. Overall good value. Like it!

December 25, 2013

I purchased this PTID-8920B for my LANCER ES 2004 SEDAN in Black Friday and had it installed at the closest Auto shop. It was replacing a Pioneer 15 UB. I already had a separate battery, the Shuriken bt-20, feeding two amplifiers: The Alpine MRP-300 4 ch and the BOSS PHANTOM PH 1502MW Mono. My amps driving a set of Infinity 2 ohm component speakers in the front doors and Sony Xplot 6 x 9 on the Rear deck. Also, pushing 2 Sony Xplod 10” subs in the trunk. So, with the 15-UB I had attained a really good quality from my music without using optional EQS or Crossovers. But I was dreaming about a DVD player with the optional Rear View Camera. So I decided this Power Acoustik PTID-8920B which I thought was good deal for the price, Bluetooth and all. I paired It with a generic Rear View camera that’s waterproof. After installation Observations: The touch screen has good response. It works fine with my fingers. The settings are easygoing. You can change the angle of the flip out monitor. Actually there was an incompatibility with the dash of my LANCER. When the monitor came out, it was getting obstructed by the upper part of the dash. So, hehheh. I guess this is a factor everytime when adding after market components. A little customization needed. So I dealt with that before the unit got broken ok!!!! Display settings enables you to go through 3 levels of brightness, useful for attaining less power consumption. DVD settings, the most useful stuff when watching DVDs. Now for the most important, the SOUND SETTINGS: Having changed from a Pioneer, these settings are poor. And that is to be expected for the price. You get preset EQ curves (Rock, Flat, etc.) Rock sounds better. You can tweak the EQ yourself, you get Bass, Treble, Fader, Balance, Loudness, and the Subwoofer output (Turn this on). The subwoofer output features 1 mono jack (Not L and R RCA’s, so you’ll need an optional Y adapter so you can connect RCA’s to the amplifier). Media playback: DVD/CD PLAYER – Overall good sound quality, tons of BASS Output. Nice Highs and Mids. USB Drive – Sound quality decreases. You get less bass output. Tons of Highs and Mids. You get better results when switching the EQ to Rock. AV-IN – Tons of Highs and Mids, but the Bass is far. Bluetooth – Tons of highs and Mids. Less Bass. But I should add that this feature is very convenient. You get to play music from your Tablet or Smartphone without cables. To this date I haven’t tried having a phone conversation using the Bluetooth feature. I focused on the sound quality. DVD MOVIES – I tried a couple DVDs. It’s working fine. Radio Tuner – Has some useful features. LOCAL, AS/PS. FM reception is working fine. Commentaries: The front panel as lots of buttons that are really small. I try to use the remote control always. The remote control has lots of buttons, so in order to use the unit it requires from you that you sit down and read. I don’t think somebody that comes to check your new car stereo for the first time would be able to understand it. It’s hard to read the small LCD screen. But who cares, it’s what you get for the price. Overall I believe I got a good deal. This unit packs good VALUE, and with a nice price. If you are an audio fanatic and you find the unit has too little features for tweaking your sound, all you have to do is to add an optional preamp EQ. I already did this. Warning: When installing, be sure you get a “Good Ground”. I was getting noise through the speakers everytime I turned on the lights. Because the guys who installed the unit messed up with this. I added noise suppressor filters and it was fine but still I wasn’t completely satisfied. Couple days later I found out that this was the cause of the problem. I corrected this myself.

NICE BUT HAD ISSUES WITH THE FIRST ONE.

November 5, 2013

IS A GOOD STEREO, NOT GREAT FOR A SYSTEM WHERE YOU WOULD NEED TO ADJUST THE CROSSOVER INDEPENDENTLY. DVD WORKS GREAT, OVERALL ITS A DESCENT UNIT. IT IS NO ALPINE THATS FOR SURE BUT FOR THE MONEY WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT. AFTER RECVING THE UNIT I INSTALLED IT AND IT WAS FINE. 9 MONTHS AFTER THE INITIAL INSTALL THE DVD/ TOUCH SCREEN WENT BLANK AND I COULD SEE ANYTHING. CALLED SONICELECTRONIX AND LUCKILY IT WAS STILL UNDER MFG 1 YR WARRANTY. SENT IN GOT A NEW ONE, SO THANK TO THEM FOR THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. HOPE THIS SECOND ONE LASTS.

This deck is well worth the money. I have a 2007 hyundai sonata and it even made my stock speakers bang. I got cs6 jl audio 6.5'' 4 and a 760 rms jenson amp for them and it can do alot more. The best feature on this I thought was the response to your touch was instant but get a touch pen or you will have problems with your finger. My major problem was the molding you get that is custom for your car did not work with my car, so find a different one.

Pleasantly Surprised

May 22, 2013

I bought this as a supplement to getting a backup camera for my 2005 Dodge Ram as I didn't want a standalone LCD screen to add to my already crowded dash. I had moderate expectations for this unit. After all, the price point is low and you generally get what you pay for. So far, after about 2 weeks of use, I can say I am overall very happy and certainly am surprised about one feature which is the Bluetooth microphone. I was actually mad that this unit did not come with a separate external microphone on a wire to be placed elsewhere because it's been my experience that built-in microphones like the one in this unit don't tend to function very well. People can tell that I'm not on my phone, but nobody has complained about call clarity, so definitely a big bonus there. I've used my USB a couple of times. I have music on a 32GB stick, but it's a little clunky to sort through the folders. Because the Bluetooth audio is so good (very clear with nary a skip or hiccup), I don't even have a need for the USB stick anymore. I haven't watched a DVD on here nor have I used the CD/DVD player, so I can't speak to those. So for pros: - Bluetooth call clarity and music function is flawless. Also connecting a device was very quick and easy - more so than my previous unit and other units I've connected my phone to in my travels. - Audio clarity is good for a 13x4 system. As long as you don't expect hi-fi sound from this unit, you'll be happy. - Picture for my backup camera works very well. The universal input (RCA) makes things that much better. Cons: - Only bass and treble for sound adjustment. If you're looking for more of an equalizer, you'll need to shell out a few more bucks. - Buttons around knob are a little small if you have big fingers like me. Overall, this is a very good buy, especially for under $200. How long it will last remains to be seen, but as a low-end product it has everything I was looking for and I would recommend anyone in the market for a single DIN DVD player to give this unit a solid look.

Will this radio fit a 2011 Renault Clio Expression?
Ryan S on Aug 16, 2014
Best Answer: Hello Ryan,

We cannot guarantee fitment on vehicles offered Outside of the U.S.
However, considering the chassis of the Power Acoustik PTID-8920B is a traditional SINGLE DIN, chances are it very well can. Needless to say, you will need to locate a Single Din Dash Kit, specific to your vehicle.

Will this fit my 2009 Chevy Silverado?
Jacob on Oct 14, 2014
Best Answer: Hello ,

This headunit's chassis is a traditional Single Din Size. Therefore, it WILL fit, with the proper dash kit. HOWEVER, clearly the design of this headunit is far from 'traditional', so Please make sure there isn't anything on the vehicle that will impede its progress, OR if the headunit will impede anything on the dash itself. In addition, the Dash Kit I referred to is Vehicle Specific, NOT headunit specific, so be prepared to potentially make a small accommodation of some kind. If you wish to completely avoid any of this, then a traditional Single Din will be your best option. [i.e. Non-Flip Out/Up/Etc..]
