The H4n also functions as a USB audio interface, letting you record directly to either a Mac or PC. Use your favorite recording software or the bundled Cubase LE 4, to start to produce and edit your recording right out of the box.
The MTR mode allows simultaneous 2-track recording and 4-track playback. With this feature, you can sketch songs by overdubbing vocals and instruments with ease. Level and panning can be adjusted individually for each track on the built-in mixer, and you can even do a mixdown right on the H4n. Perfect for pre-production sessions with the band.

This worked very well.
I don't personally own this item, but I did use it while shooting a short film with some people. It worked phenomenally! You could pick up a whisper from 50 yards out, that sounded like somebody was talking right in front of me, it was incredible. It also didn't have any problem recording scenes with people yelling 10 feet away, you just turn down the volume, and it's that simple.
It's very easy to use, I picked it up right away and had no problems with it. I gave the value 3 stars because I think $300 is a lot of money, but I also have no clue how much these products typically go for. I can say this, it works terrifically.

Zoom RC-4
Remote controll is excellent addition to Hn4. Eliminates mechanical noise from turning on/off/pause during recording and makes editing much easier. Also, at a jam, I can leave the remote on my leg or music stand and turn off/on/pause without interupting the music. The Hn4 is an excellent machine that has capability that is way over my head, but it is much easier to use with the remote. I will never own another recorder without remote.

Love it
The Zoom RC-4 is a high-quality mobile recording device. If you want to record lecture notes then just use your iPhone. If you want a hi-fidelity live stereo recording then use the Zoom. My only complaint is that it is not rechargeable. So you must pack along extra batteries.

Works like a dream
There are a lot of handheld recorders out there these days but the H4n is still just a great product. The sound quality is awesome (admittedly I've only recorded in stereo and not the 4 channel option yet) and has recorded every instrument I've thrown at it, from voice through guitar and piano, with fidelity. Either on a mic stand or on the kitchen table you can set it up anywhere quickly and easily. I haven't really come across any negatives with this thing yet and for simple room demos or just recording the kids reading their stories to send to grandma this thing does the job.
