Incredible Bass with Ability to Perform in a Tight Space!

NVX's VC-Series car subwoofers are about to blow you away. The VCW124 is a jack-of-all-trades and has been engineered to the highest standards. The woven fiber pressed paper cone and custom High Roll foam surround with Nylon stitching help reproduce tight and accurate bass, keeping cone distortion to a minimum even at the highest volume levels. The next key components in the design of the VCW124 are the large dual 3" High Temperature Aluminum voice coils and triple stacked motor structure. These features combined help this sub handle some serious power at 850-1000 Watts RMS. The dual voice coils also give you many options for different Ohm load wiring configurations. With all the above engineering elements combined, the VCW124 subwoofer gives you better sound and build quality than many subs costing almost twice as much. Plus, they will sound great in a small sealed enclosure for those who do not have a lot of space!

NVX VC Series Subwoofer Breakdown

Surround: Most materials used in commercial subwoofer surrounds rip and tear at peak levels. Keeping this in mind, the NVX team developed a custom high-roll foam surround that gives their subs improved linearity and MORE output. Combining that with high-strength adhesive and nylon stitching means that this subwoofer will last through some serious audio output!

Basket: The 3-dimensional cast provides outstanding strength while keeping the subwoofer light due to the aluminum construction. Aluminum is a non-ferrous metal, which means the basket will not interfere with the magnetic energy of the voice coil and motor structure.

Spiders: The Dual Poly-Cotton Spiders are designed to be durable and long-lasting. They give the voice coil the suspension it needs and restore the subwoofer to its normal resting position with ease.

Voice Coil: The 3" (2.5" for the VCW102 and VCW 104) High Temperature Aluminum Voice Coil along with the triple-stacked magnet give massive power handling capability for the VC Series Subwoofers. The effective heat dissipation of the voice coil allows you to play the subwoofer louder without distortion.

CEA-2031 Compliant: All CEA-2031 compliant loudspeakers adopt the same testing and measurement methods so comparing them side by side is easy. Loudspeakers include car speakers and subwoofers. The Consumer Electronics Association created new testing and measurement methods for mobile loudspeaker systems that define test procedures for rating the performance and physical size of speakers. This is important because you can now compare different speakers on the same playing field. Any manufacturers who adopt the CEA-2031 logo product mark can be compared evenly to other speaker manufacturers with the same mark.

Tips for Installing the your NVX VCW124 subwoofer

Subwoofer Specifications

Subwoofer Series
Each subwoofer manufactured is part of a series. This is the name of the subwoofer's series.
VC-Series (NVX)
Subwoofer Size
Refers to the diameter of the subwoofer, measured in inches.
12"
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
2000 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
1000 watts
Voice Coil(s)
Dual voice coil subs have more wiring flexibility than single voice coils subs; however, single voice coil subwoofers provide easier hookup options for wiring multiple subwoofers in parallel or series. You may also run a dual voice coil (DVC) sub in parallel, series, or combination. A quad voice coil has four voice coils and is equal to two dual voice coil subwoofers as far as wiring goes.
Dual
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
4 ohms
Voice Coil Diameter
Diameter of voice coil, usually measured in inches.
3"
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
20 - 200 Hz
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
85 dB
Xmax (millimeters)
Typically measured in millimeters, the Xmax value is the measure of a speaker cone's maximum excursion in one direction while maintaining a linear behavior.
20 mm
Subwoofer Design
This is the design of the subwoofer or the opening of the subwoofer enclosure. Each design has it's own benefits, whether it is a square, circle, or oval.

Round/Circle: This is the typical and common subwoofer design. They have a round cone and are a circle in design.

Square: These woofers are able to achieve a greater cone area in a smaller space. Because of the greater surface area, some square subwoofers will be louder than a round subwoofer of the same size.

Round / Circle
Main Cone Color
This is the color of the speaker's or subwoofer's cone.
Dark Gray
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Woven Fiber Pressed Paper Cone
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Foam
Magnet Structure
Defines the overall structure of the subwoofers magnet.
Triple Stacked
Subwoofer Grille
Most subwoofers are able to accommodate a universal grille; however, some subs include a grille and others have a specific, optional grille available for purchase separately. If "yes", then the subwoofer includes a grille. If "optional (sold separately)" the matching grille will need to be purchased in addition to the sub.
No
Re-Cone Kit Available
Some higher end subwoofers have replaceable cone assemblies. In case of a blown woofer, a recone kit allows for a simple replacement, as opposed to purchasing an entire new subwoofer.
No

Recommended Enclosure Specifications

Recommended Enclosure Type
This is the recommended type of enclosure that the subwoofer should be installed into. Some subwoofers are specially designed for particular enclosures.

Sealed: These enclosures completely enclose the air inside the box. These boxes produce a tight bass.

Ported/Vented: These enclosures have a slot of air to escape from the box. The result is a sound that has more "boom".

Bandpass: These are a combination of both sealed and ported enclosures. They can be very efficient, but require tuning for the best response.

Ported / Vented
Sealed
Minimum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
0.75 cubic feet
Optimum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the ideal sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
0.85 cubic feet
Maximum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
1.25 cubic feet
Minimum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
1.75 cubic feet
Optimum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the ideal ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
1.85 cubic feet
Maximum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.75 cubic feet
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
7.02"
Cutout Diameter
The actual diameter of the hole you will need to cut out if you are creating a new mounting location for this speaker, or if you are mounting a subwoofer in a box.
11.26"
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

No

Electromechanical Parameters

Free-Air Resonance (Fs)
The free-air resonance frequency of the subwoofer, measured in Hz. At this frequency the weight of the moving parts is perfectly balanced with the subwoofers suspension system.
26 Hz
Equivalent Compliance (Vas)
This is the amount of air that has the same stiffness as the subwoofers suspension. The greater the rating, the lower the stiffness and larger recommended enclosure. It is measured in Liters.
33.79 liters
Total Speaker Q Value (Qts)
This is the subwoofers relative damping (Q) at the resonance frequency (Fs), including all dimensionless losses. Essentially, a high Qts value (closer to 1.0) means the subwoofer is great for sealed enclosures and a low Qts value (closer to 0) means the woofer is great in vented enclosures. A Qts of around 0.45 means the woofer will work decently in either enclosure type.
0.38
Electrical Q Value (Qes)
The subwoofers relative damping (Q) at the resonance frequency (Fs), including electrical losses. Also called the mechanical damping of the subwoofer. The unitless measurement usually varies from 0.5 – 10.

Best subs yet!

June 3, 2014

I bought the NVX VCW124s (2) to use in my vehicle with a Hifonics Brutus 2200 RMS Monoblock amp. The subs Voice coils are hooked in parallel giving me roughly a 2 Ohm load per speaker. So these babies are capable of getting 1100 amps RMS each but I don't push them that hard because I really don't need too and I want them to last. They hit harder than any sub I have ever bought and I am a solid NVX believer now. I also just bought the entry level NSW122s at a great deal, 2 for $99! If you are thinking about these, DO IT! You will not be disappointed one bit, and then you will likely not even consider anything else but NVX when it comes to serious performance and value.

Extremely Accurate

May 19, 2014

For a $200 subwoofer driver, this piece is one of the most accurate in it's price bracket.

What does it do for you? It creates a listening pleasure like no other, whether you listen to classical, rock, pipe organ, or any other genre of music, this speaker delivers.

It's quick response is well appreciated. I would or could go on and on about the different setups and what yielded the most listening pleasure, but that would be highly selective to my ears.

Bottom line is I would recommend this speaker on any given day of the week.

POUND POUND POUND!!!

August 20, 2014

That's all these do is POUND! They sound amazing. I have them ran 1 ohm to my Hifonics X2200.1, giving them 1000 watts RMS easily, and they are begging for more. Can't wait to get them in a custom box (going to do 1.9 cubic ft per chamber tuned to 30-34 hz), and have them really perform. NVX is great quality, and sound amazing. Heads turn when you have these in your trunk!!!!

Buy it NOW before it's doubled in price!

September 30, 2014

These subs are the BEST I have ever owned or heard anywhere and the price is way bellow what their competitors are asking for similar subs at NVX specs. I own 3 of these babies and am planning on buyin nothing but these subs for my subwoofer needs. Buy these subs NOW at these prices while you still can because the are definitely going to get more expensive and soon too. My next purchase will be for the VCW15 for another home subwoofer custome build. I only wish they made an 18" subwoofer for my current 18" subwoofer satellite custome built box that is good but could be so much better with an NVX subwoofer at its core. Amazing sound, quality, and value!

March 19, 2013

Stoked with the sound quality of the sub and surprised by the box I got in the package. I thought it was a useless throw-in but it is not bad at all. The bass output is great and now I am second guessing whether I should even build a box. Powering 1200 watts with a Hifonics 1ch amp.

If you made this sub the reference standard to ALL subs... Most sub companies would go Belly up Before the day was over..That's about how good the 124's are. W6"s cannot produce the firmer bass at 35 below that these can. NVX has done something special.. They decided that greed isn't going to rule them. Subs like these generally run at least triple the price. The low end is nothing short of phenomenal...WOW is all I can say especially around the 40 to 25hz range!!! Firm ,solid and clean. I'm talking Bass and not mid range. I made a huge mistake!!! I just bought one when two would've offered the perfect balance for impact.I shall get another but make sure you get a good powerful amp perhaps NVX jl or arc audio.. I rate these right up there with the W7's..They are really close for 1/4 the price!!!Price Quality and Sound just doesn't get much better..only possibility for better sound is a newer technology before the speaker .Processors and the like..

Top notch, sir. Top notch.

July 27, 2014

They beat, and beat, and beat... "W3 Killers" is an appropriate, if not understated, title.

I'm running (2) at 1Ω with a Hifonics 1600.1. Now granted, I have them under-powered at 800 watts each in my 2 door 89 GMC C1500, but they are simply powerful, clean & worth the investment.

I've read other reviews regarding subs & their companies, and most bass-heads and audio enthusiasts are trying to steer clear from NVX because they are a newer company... but I must insist, give them a try. I have had great experience with NVX, including but not limited to SQ, equipment quality, durability & pricing.

These just murder the competition.

This sub is the real deal buy it before this company becomes well known and the price goes crazy. This sub is by far the best buy for a 200 dollar woofer and when installed in a slightly larger than recommended enclosure will produce bass almost as well as my w7. If I could do it all again I would buy nvx only and save myself a small fortune.

I won this sub on SMD as Sonic was doing a give away. Thank you very much Sonic and NVX! I built a 2.75cu custom box tuned to 34hz with 36^2 of port and I am powering it with a Rockford Fosgate P1000X1D which gives it 1000 watts rms at 2ohms.

I am amazed at how loud this single 12 can get in the 30-40hz range. The excursion is impressive. The sound quality is very good. I have quite a bit of experience with other subs and this one is one of the best I've got my hands on. I love the way it blends with the rest of my system while still having enough output to flex my entire car with a thick full deep sound you look for in a sub woofer.

Ok first off let me say my last system was 2 american bass xfl 12 (old style baskets) on a crescendo 2000d at .5ohm..could burp a mid 147db at 35hz.. had that setup for over a year..
anyhow i sold everything and went almost a entire year with NO bass at all..not even a cd player..
so i decided to get back into audio again..I 1st heard of nvx from mazda2284 on youtube.. and after talking to him i decided to order some nvx products..
i have 2 of these vcw 12s on a BELVA 5000d.. wired to 1ohm and gains set and O SCOPED for a CLEAN 2000w.. i have a 180a alternator and 150amp hr of battery bank and 0g wires..
i have these subs in a 3.8 cubic foot NET (meaning each sub really sees 1.9 cubes each) using 14" of port per cubic foot and tuned to 30hz..
i 1st tried the recommended 1.2 cube ported box but the ouput was absolutely HORRIBLE.. the 1.9 cubes REALLY made them come to life
they are JUST as loud as my xfls were and play a good bit lower also (xfls struggled below 25hz these nvx's play 20hz EASILY)
and they take the power all day long.. with my voltage dropping to around 13.2s full tilt i can play for a constant 1hr and the subs are still COOL and so is the amp

Superb Sub

December 10, 2014

This is a great sub..My mistake was to not buy two of these, yet I still can and will. You get strong and clean bass at a lower frequency where many other subs fade. I compared this one sub to two W3s. The low end from about 35 to 25hz is nothing short of remarkable. I compared these to w6.s side by side with the W6 in it's special made enclosure. The lows are more pronounced. I was using the 1000/1 jl amp.ported box tuned to about 30.. Jl was solid on the higher bass frequencies but NVX was clearly stable and clean on the lower end.jl at the same low frequency was questionably stable even though the sound was produced it didn't share the impact or the firmness..If you hook these subs up correctly you can have some of the best sounding subs you will ever hear.Haven't compared them to W7's yet..Beautifully sounding ,beautifully made sub.. NVX products are of a special class.Great doesn't always have to come with a huge price tag..

I have 2 of these in a sealed enclosure powered by a hifonics brutus 2200 rms amp. The bass is amazingly tight and they do hit very low register notes. However they still do leave me yearning for more. Ive been an audio enthusiast for 20+ years competing for 5 of them. I decided to throw a budget system together and had great expectations, granted it's the first time using a hifonics amp as well so maybe I'm just not getting the power outta that I'm used to in the past. Anyway for someone starting out I would recommend these subs but for the hard core audio nut like myself if u do give them a shit at least go with an amp that u know will power them decent. Think I may yet try porting the box but don't expect it to make that huge a difference...

Let me say this. WOW. I have 2 vc124. On a hifonics brx2000.1 At one ohm. Break in time was about 16 hours. At one ohm. Just low settings. Now that they r broke in. I set the gains and filters correct. I own a 96 jeep Cherokee. And the whole jeep shakes. I'm afraid I'm about to break my windows. I got them for 149. From sonic when they were on sale. So I got lucky. I love nvx. And from this point on. They r all that I will buy. By buddy has 2 jlw7s. And my system hits as hard as his. Just as good. But he paid almost 700 for each of his subs.

September 17, 2013

I purchase the NVX VCW12 D4 a few months ago. I installed the sub in a slightly larger ported box than what was recommended, and powered it with an AQ 2200d, at 2 ohms, approximately 1400-1600 WRMS, and....this sub gets down! This sub is very well built, attractive looking, and relatively heavy. The sound quality is equally as nice as the SPL. This is a very good subwoofer. You will not be disappointed if you decide to purchase this sub.

Watch out JL and Rockford

November 8, 2014

I have always loved my Rockford Fosgate amps and woofers, however this guy puts my T1 to shame. The kicker is that it only cost half the price. Sub weighs about 28 pounds! Set this next to a w6 and it is much larger. I would say this is more evenly compared to a w7. Not sure how this sounds in a sealed box but will get low in a large ported box. Neighbors called the cops on me twice.

Started off with a sealed box at .8 net cubic feet, sound quality was great just not very loud. Also built a slot ported box to specs, 1.25 cubic feet tuned at 25hz, sounded horrible. Called the manufacturer, claims there was a typo in the manual, they recommend 1.75-2.75 cubes, 30-34hz. Built a new slot ported box at 1.9 at 34hz and wow what a difference. Loudness and sound quality is comparable to a w7. Very impressed with this woofer!

Insane SPL

May 3, 2015

I purchased two of the NVX VCW 124's to replace my Audiopipe TXX-BD2-12's. I have them in vented 2.25cu ft per chamber tunes at 38 hz wired in a 1 ohm load on a Soundstream DTR1.900.D so I'm pushing 900w rms. These things xmax at 20mm so the SPL and vibration is insane. These subs have impressed my friends and has me loving every minute of every song. One thing I have noticed is they aren't quite as loud as the Audiopipes but with the SPL gaining like it has it's really not noticeable until a dB meter is pulled out. With the Audiopipes the dBA meters average was 118. I am hiting a solid 116dB's in my front seats according to a cheap hand held dBA meter. I would recommend these subs to any enthusiast that wants high rms availability for an excellent price and unbeatable sound. NVX is a quality product that can take the abuse, maintains accurate linear drives, and hands down destroys most other subs in this category.

$200 FOR ABSOLUTE MONSTERS!!!

June 5, 2015

These NVX subs (D4) in my own opinion are some of the best subs for $200 for sale in the whole world. There are many subs in the whole world but these guys are absolute BISSTSSSS!!!! (BEASTS). I have 2 HIfonics BRX20001.d amps strapped running them at 1400 watts rms a piece. They gobble 1400 watts up like your embarrassingly obese uncle "Larry" at Thanksgiving. Everyone knows Larry is that family member that takes all the dark meat turkey and leaves you with the dried out white meat you have to chug with milk to swallow. Yeah, anyway, I've gotten noise complaints from the Canadian Government, they said they thought a nuclear bomb had gone off near the border. I live in Atlanta. No joke, with a 195 oz magnet, 3 inch coil and huge rubber surround these guys do work!!!

NVX MONSTERS!!!

June 5, 2015

I was in the market to operate it for my 10 inch pioneer champion 2 12 inch subwoofers, after doing quite a bit of research I was considering the Sundown Audio SA-12 series, DD Level 3 series and a couple of other brands. Then, I stumbled upon these guys. if you actually read the specs on these guys and look at the weight of the magnet, the fact that they have a 3 inch coil and a couple other beastmode specs you will quickly realize these guys are made to handle some serious juice. I am running two Hifonics BRX 2001. D strapped together at 2 ohms running 2800 watts RMS. These Subs gobble up around 12 to 1400 watts RMS without hesitating! With just two twelves in the back of my rodeo I can be heard in eastern Canada, I got a call from the local police department in Washington State and they wanted to issue me a citation for noise pollution. These two twelves create earthquakes on the other side of the world. I wish I knew what the max power rating was for these guys because they say that RMS is 850 to 1000 watts. when people see the full X on my car they asked me if I have two fifteens or 8 tens or 600 8 inch woofers running 3 million watts at negative 1 ohm. These guys are extremely underrated and the other day I was riding down a gravel road and Sasquatch came out, started running at my car throwing rocks at me and I put on some decaf bass and he ran into the woods scared like a six year old girl. Oh yeah, and these magnets are a hundred ninety five ounces, that's right baby these things have big time magnets. These guys are heavier than your ex girlfriend who has a problem with Twinkies.

Build quality is outstanding. The rubber on the front is very very very easy to tear. I slipped with a screwdriver and sliced about a 2 inch hole in it. Hence why I only have one hooked up.

July 27, 2015

This sub is very responsive. I currently have it in a 1.0 cu.ft. sealed box(space limitations) powered by an Audiopipe APCL1500.1D and it sounds great. It didn't seem to like frequencies below around 18hz but that could be the box design or the vehicles harmonics. I got decent sound out of it with only 200w RMS while did the initial break in and it sounds great at 950w RMS!

Outstanding subs NVX for the win

September 13, 2015

I have the VCW 10 dual 4s in a .75 sealed (each chamber) under seat box in a 98 dodge ram. They're realistically seeing about .72 cu ft with 3/4 lb pollyfill.i do have them paired with the JAD1200.1 its a perfect match. I had a soundqubed HDS3-12 in a custom ported box and it was a lil louder and more efficient on half the powerkuz of the box. But the VCWs are almost as loud but with excellent Sound Quality. Tight punchy bass but still loud n low while keeping SQ cranked all the way up no clipping, no bottoming out, no distortion just awesome subs n amp . Ive been bumping these a few months now n I did two back to back 5 hour trips pounding none stop and the subs and amp never gave me one problem even in the 110+ degree heat of Phoenix AZ. The amp did get hot but never gave a problem. The bass knob does work its just sensitive. Its not like the knobs most people are used to. I will recommend these subs and brand and rate 6 stars outa 5.

Violent output with excellent transient response

October 4, 2016

Ive been into serious car audio since around 1992 . Ive had several, several full tilt systems in my vehicles over the years and I purchased two of these to put into my suburban. I bought them after several months of research based on price and reputation basically. I have a Zapco st1650-xm II on each one wired at 2 ohm a piece resulting in around 1100 or so real world Zapco watts to each one. Let me tell you, these things get absolutely violent in the SPL department, they are ripping my subarban apart, seriously...on top of the above average SPL they are outstanding in the SQ department and easily sound good enough to satisfy anyone looking for good sound quality. So far they have exceeded my expectations for both SPL and SQ, and for 200.00 bucks they are going to be hard to beat. Awesome value. I have them in 2.4 net per sub with 16 sqin port per sub tuned to 33hz and it sounds amazing and flexes the shit out of my Suburban.

Subs will destroy a pre fab box without bracing.

June 15, 2016

I had two of these subs on a audiopipe acpl 1800 mono at 1 ohm for about a month in half before the amp went out. So I'm ordering the NVX amp to match the subs now. All being said the subs hit very hard and sounded good the subs broke two different pre fab ported boxes I had to put nails and screws in the box to keep it from falling apart that's how hard they hit. Subs literally knocked the back wall of my 2 12 ported B box loose after a weekend of playing the subs in the box. So beware these subs on a good amount of power I suggest a custom built box

May 5, 2016

I don't think we need to say much, these subs speak for themselves. If youre doubting these cuz you don't know anyone with them, that's a good thing, you can show off to ppl who don't know jack about them. They pound for starters. like absolutely blew my mind how hard they hit. could not be happier w this selection. I bought a JAD1200.1 amp to power 2 of these. I have the wiring set up parallel to run a 1-Ohm load. It is far more superior to any of my friends systems who have more wattage, and "better subs." HA
my friend has some JLw6's and these are way better. Hits harder and lower and the sustain is incredible. the Xmax of 20mm is perfect. just enough.

Pros: I really think these r better than even the alpine TypeX I used to have(1000watts rms/3000 watts max) I'm not too keen on the H.A.M.R. surround on the alpine products. These subs are heavy duty, the frame is solid, the weight of these badboys will denounce any competitive subs of equal value. BEST BOOM FOR UR BUCK, and these subs are sooo sexy looking

cons: Only thing I had a discrepancy about these was the run off of glue in random spots, but that's fine with me. still looks dope asf. and these subs run slightly bigger than ur average equal size subs. but to me that's a pro, oversized equals more sub. more sub equals more boom.

DONT POKE A HOLE IN UR SURROUND LIKE I DID THO.

I have 2 of these in a 3.75 net cubes box tuned @ 34 HZ powered a PPI BA 2600.1D and now a Hifonics BRX 2000.1D. They hit pretty good on the PPI but the Hifonics has really brought them to life. In the box they are seeing about 1200-1250w total and I have only gotten them warm once, and only because I was trying to. Planning on giving them more power soon to see what they can handle will update when I do.

adding another sub

the price was right and all the reviews were good on this product. ive been in car audio for over 20 years and needed some subs for my new suburban and ive researched subs for about 6 months now and these came out on top. no other sub matches these in this price range. jl sound quality, excellent spl, and very affordable. these are a smart buy.

I asked on your facebook page but know one will get back with me on it . The subs this box asked for is only 1.25 cf each total 2.50 CB . If the box says it's over 3CF so is there a type o or that's how it is ?

How does this sub compare to the alpine type r? Also when will the sub be back in stock?
A shopper on Mar 19, 2015
Best Answer: This sub is very impressive. Funny you ask how they compare to the Alpine type r subs because my buddy has two in a ported box and my single vcw sounds the same, and actually hits those deeper tones better. I have mine in a 1.8 cubic ft. ported box. personally the best sub iv owned so far. Hope this helped.

Will they handle the audio pipe 3000 amp?
Reddog on Jun 5, 2016
Best Answer: Yes they love power, they're rated for 1000 watt rms but they'll take much more. I'm running two vcw 124's at 1ohm on a soundstream 4000 watt amp and they do just fine. They pound hard in a 2ft³ ported box at 32hz and the bass is crystal clear. That amp has a little too much power though so just be careful, you should be fine with the 3000 watt.

A sealed box for this sub is .75cf does that include subwoofer displacement? And out of curiosity does anyone know what that subwoofer displacement is?
conway h on Jun 5, 2015
Best Answer: No it does not include subwoofer displacement. The vcw124 displacement is .11 cubic feet from what I calculated

What's the thickest speaker wire gauge these push terminals can swallow?...I was thinking 8... "can't wait until my DC 2k gets here!"
Chuck D on Sep 14, 2014
Best Answer: 12 is enough, I have two 1200watt slash going to two type X, and I think 12 gauge speaker wire is the biggest they make, or maybe 10, anyway 12 is plenty.

Will the 440 watts (@ 2 ohms) in the NVX 900.5 subwoofer channel be enough to power this sub efficiently?
David B on Nov 13, 2015
Best Answer: In my opinion not really, that's barely enough to break in the sub. To run this sub in a ported enclosure efficiently you would need 800-900 watts rms and 1000-1100 watts rms for sealed enclosures. That's after proper break-in time, I usually give new subs 48 hours of play time, but these subs have a stiff suspension so I gave them about 80 hours. I'm using a RF R1200-1d @ 1 ohm tuned to -5 dB. I have the vcw122 in a ported enclosure with 1.88 cu ft after displacement tuned @ 31 hrz sounds amazing, people think I have 15's because of how low and loud it is. Sub and vent facing in the cabin sealed from the trunk.

why does this have such good ratings, but utilizes high temp alum for coils? Is this beyond my knowledge of basic thermal properties? just sort of confused
A shopper on Apr 5, 2016
Best Answer: Aluminum is an excellent conductor of heat, thus why it is used is almost all radiators. "High Temp" refers to its ability to handle and disperse higher temperatures; they aren't advertising that their sub gets really hot lol. it In terms of being beyond your knowledge of thermal properties..... well this is a basic thermal property so it seems you may need to to rethink your knowledge of basic thermal properties.

This is an great subwoofer for the cost. If you know what you're doing and properly power this sub it will astonish you. Great sound quality and amplitude.

Gelu P on Sep 15, 2015
Best Answer: Run single wire from both coils straight to the amp, it's got 4 terminal's right. Most sub amps have 4 terminal's

Hi, it there the difference of sound quality , or of the bass response, or others factors, If when i make the box , the port air is not in the front of box but lateral, as well as the design pre made of Car Audio Fabrications for the sub NVX VCW 12" : 2.00 Cubic Ft @ 32 HZ
17.00 Deep x 32.00 Wide x 14.00 Tall. My questions is : change something if the air will be released laterally and not frontally, I do not know how to explain. I always saw that all the boxes had the front air outlet, but not sideways like that design. ? Thanks very much!
Gelu P on Dec 26, 2014
Best Answer: The design that has a port in the front uses a L shaped port (meaning the air inside the box travels in a L shaped pattern). This is just the most simple design and provides great low end response with minimal distortion. The design I believe you are referencing is similar however is utilizes three chambers to slow down the port velocity which reduces port noise but it doesn't really have a name. It is quite the complicated box and must be done right otherwise lots of distortion can be introduced. A simpler design utilizing a port laterally is a S shaped port (meaning the air will travel in a S shaped pattern). This box design creates the need for a slightly larger box because the port area will be larger meaning net box volume will be lower for the same dimensions as a L shaped design. The S shaped port is a great option if you have the space, cleaner bass, and less port noise. The subwoofer is also mounted on the top versus on the side and the port can either come out the left or right side of the box versus the front. Make sure that each port wall is of equal size and is not too small to avoid forming a straight line to the port, this will cause lots of distortion and port noise and will basically make the sub sound terrible. I personally use a L shaped port for my vcw124 and it sounds great and is very loud. I called the manufacturer and they recommend 1.75-2.75 cubic feet and tuned 30-34hz. Mine is 2.2 cubes tuned at 33hz hits all way down to 20hz and makes my ears hurt at full tilt. Hope this helps!

How would this sub sound in a 1.25 Cu Ft sealed box? Or would that be a bad Idea?
Kev2087 on Jun 11, 2015
Best Answer: That is slightly too large of a sealed box for this subwoofer. .75 cu ft would be the recommended size for a sealed box as per manufacturer. 1.25 cu ft would be ideal for a ported box. It is recommended to stick to those sizes.

optimum ported box specs?
A shopper on Oct 1, 2014
Best Answer: 3.12 ft ported tuned to 34hz
Minus sub and port displacement.
In that box the sub will get low and hit highs all with very accurate bass reponse. Can't speak for the durability of this sub but it sounds really great

What is the displacement of this sub reversed?
Manuel G on Jan 4, 2016
Best Answer: i would find the displacement from a similar sub and use those specs, because I can't find anything in the manual. I need to no what size port to use, or if I can vent the box. I'll probably call NVX. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

What amplifier wiring kit i need ? I like 1/0 gauge...but i'm confused..i think to push it with RE Audio ZTX 3000.1 D , it's is powerful ? What you recommend?
Gelu P on Nov 27, 2014
Best Answer: Hello Gelu,

The RE Audio ZTX-3000.1 is a Great match for the VCW124! [2 ohms: 1000 watts x 1 chan.] . 1k is well within needing AT LEAST 4 Gauge. Especially if the distance from the Battery to the Amp is minimal. We always suggest OFC Wiring for such a setup; Preferably the NVX XKIT42 or NVX XKIT02.
