Power Specifications - Subwoofer Channel

RMS Power @ 4 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 4 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.
700 watts x 1 channels
RMS Power @ 2 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 2 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.
1400 watts x 1 channels
RMS Power @ 1 ohm
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. Amplifier Specifications

Amplifier Series
This designates the series of the amplifier. Many amps are available in a litany of different wattage and channel configurations, but maintain consistent features throughout the product line.
Brutus (Hifonics)
Amplifier Class

An amplifier increases the power of the signal being fed to it by taking energy from its power supply and matching the signal but increasing its amplitude. Amplifiers use many different methods for converting these electrical signals and have been categorized into classes.

Class A/B: Greater than 50% of the input signal is amplified while the other percentage is “off”. These amplifiers have a small amount of current flowing through the output transistors all the time which almost eliminates crossover distortion. Class A/B has great sound quality but is not as efficient as class D. These amps are most commonly used to drive speakers.

Class D: Also known as switching amplifiers, class D amps have output transistors that are completely turned “on” or “off”. This means that when the transistors are on, there is almost no voltage across them but when they are off there is significant voltage but no current flowing through it which makes these amplifiers very efficient at the cost of sound quality. These amps are most commonly used to drive subwoofers.

Other Classes: You may see classes such as GH, bD, X, FD, etc. by some manufactures. These amplifiers tend to be either class A/B, D or a hybrid of the two but with improvements to their designs that can make them more efficient or offer better sound quality.

D
Number of Channels
Each channel on an amplifier will power one speaker using a positive and negative cable. There are various types of amplifiers, each designed to power a certain number of speakers. Monoblock amplifiers, also known as single channel, are designed to power one or more subwoofers. These amplifiers often have very high power ratings. On the other hand, multi-channel amplifiers power multiple speakers, usually at lower power ratings. 2-Channel and 4-Channel amplifiers can power car speakers or low powered subwoofers. Occasionally you might see a 5 or 6-channel amplifier that can power speakers and subwoofers at the same time. The most common setup is a monoblock amp to run subwoofers and a 4-channel amp to run door speakers. Check out our Knowledge Base for more information.
1 - Mono
Total RMS Power Output
Total RMS power is measured by multiplying RMS power per channel by the number of channels, and is calculated at the lowest level of operating impedance.

RMS power is the amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS figure, the louder and cleaner your music sounds.

The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.

2000 watts
Maximum Input Gauge Size
This is the largest gauge wire that will fit into the power and ground terminals of this device. The lower the gauge number, the thicker the wire is. For example, a 4 gauge wire is thicker than an 8 gauge wire and thus has higher current carrying capacity. Always do your best to get this size wire to reduce the risk of damage to your components.
4 AWG
Minimum Impedance Unbridged
The lowest impedance the amplifier will handle when it is not bridged.
1 ohms
Minimum Impedance Bridged
The lowest impedance the amplifier will handle when it is bridged.
Not Bridgeable
THD at Rated RMS Power
The amount of change in harmonic content of the signal as it is amplified. A lower figure indicates less change and a more accurate amp. THD below 0.10% is inaudible.
<0.1%
Speaker Level Inputs
Speaker level inputs are commonly referred to as high-level inputs and vice versa. This input type allows you to get your audio signal directly from the speaker wire in your vehicle, instead of using RCA cables. The advantage of this is factory integration, as most stock radios do not have RCA outputs to run amplifiers.
No
Preamp Outputs
Many amplifiers are equipped with RCA preamp outputs which pass the original music signal from the source to additional amplifiers. This is known as daisy chaining because the source connects to the first amp, and the first amp connects to the second amp, etc. The advantage to daisy chaining is you only need one 2-channel RCA cable to transfer the signal from the head-unit to the amplifier, and then one additional cable for each amp being daisy chained.
1 pair
Built-in Crossover

A crossover is a type of filtering system that permits only certain frequencies to play. A Low-Pass (LP) crossover allows only frequencies below its setting to get through which is good in the case of some subwoofers. A High-Pass(HP) filter allows frequencies above its setting to pass through, this is normally used on speakers.

When a crossover is set to FULL it means no filtering is added and the full frequency spectrum is allowed through the amplifier. Filtering is important because feeding a speaker frequencies it cannot reproduce effectively creates distortion.

Low-pass (LP)
Low-Pass Crossover Frequency
The low-pass crossover frequency is typically used for subwoofers. It can be a fixed crossover point or a variable crossover range. A variable low-pass crossover allows you to select a specific crossover point which allows frequencies below the set crossover point to pass, while making frequencies above the set point gently or harshly roll-off, depending on the steepness of the slope.

The steepness of the roll-off slope is measured in dB/octave and refers to the rate of attenuation (lowering of volume) outside their pass bands.

35 - 250 Hz
Subsonic Filter
Allows you to block (filter) ultra-low frequencies that your subs cannot reproduce.
15 - 35 Hz
Signal-to-Noise Ratio
This spec compares the strength of the signal to the level of background noise. A higher value indicates less background noise.
>95 dB
Bass Boost
The objective of the bass boost is to get more kick out of your subwoofer. It is a circuit that emphasizes the lower frequencies at a given point. The bass boost should always be set first before setting the gain. This feature is known for destroying subwoofers and is commonly used incorrectly, so be cautious.
0 - 10 dB
Bass/Gain Remote
If the amp comes with a bass/gain remote you will be able to control the level of your bass from your dashboard. Typically bass remotes also include a 16-20 ft. wire for installation.
Yes
Fan Cooled
A great feature to have if an amp generates a large amount of heat. Cooling fans can help regulate the temperature to prevent the amp from overheating (burning).
No
Fuse Rating
The amperage and the number of fuse(s) an amp requires.
External 200 Amp Fuse Required
CEA-2006 Compliant
Amplifiers that have been tested to meet specific standards. When a car amplifier meets these standards, you can be sure that it will be able to produce the amount of power specified by the official CEA-2006 rating. Usually, these rating consist of the following items:
  • RMS Power
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio

This rating applies to both external car amplifiers, as well as the amplifiers inside of in-dash stereos.

I don't think this amp is a power hungry as people say, unless they are using 4ga power wire and have a 70 amp alternator. It requires 0ga wire, which is a bad combination with the angled terminals. Solid performing, sounding, and looking amplifier.

Well I waited 4 years to write this review..... And I'll say just a couple things. First this amp has never let me down always pushing it to the max and never gets hot! I will only buy Hifonics amps from now on if i ever go bigger! But I have two 10 inch Type-R's hooked up to it and pushes them perfectly!

This amp pushes true 2000 watts but make sure you got a good 2nd battery for it to hold good voltage to allow the true 2000 watts to push your subs. Only downfall is cheap brackets that you screw to your amp down.

It Does the job

October 7, 2014

I have this Amp pushing 2 12 NVX VCWS at 1ohm pushing 2k rms thanks to the CEA COmpliant amp, its very attractive at night and will do the job well BUT, this amp does get hot even wired down to 1 ohm I have this on 0gauge power and ground and its in a perfect ventilated area, it gets hot but it has not shut down on me, but if it does get hot give the bass a little slack meaning let it cool down, even though the amp can handle it even when warm/hot you don't want to keep at it.

Awesome Amplifier

March 8, 2015

This is my first amp over $150 dollars and let me tell you, it makes a difference. I have 2 12" Alpine Type R's in a sealed box (i know, sucks) and they hit super hard and clean. Just make sure your car has the power for it! I had to buy a d3400 because my lights were dimming. Hopefully it gets rid of the dimming and boltage drop!

Pros:
Blue lights
Design looks cool
Power is really there

Cons:
Arms for screws are made of plastic, seem brittle

Clean power, GREAT price

December 21, 2014

I'll admit. i was a little skeptical at first when seeing these hifonics line of amps. They seemed to cheap to actually put out that amount of clean power. But boy was i wrong. This amp has surprised me in almost every aspect. The fuses aren't normal blade fuses, but rather maxi fuses which ive never seen before. The blue lights accent every part of the amp and look great on my box. I have this running 2 alpine SWS12D2 subs tuned to 900w rms at 2 ohms. It puts out good clean power and theres no clipping from what i can tell, i can definitely see it putting out the 1400 watts rms at 2 ohms that it says it will, there's still quite a bit to go on the gain knob. Hifonics all the way man! Cheap amps but the quality is over the top. I would recommend this to any one of my friends that needs a lot of power for a little price. Stays cool too, after bumping for hours it only warms up a little bit, runs like a champ.

BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK UNDER $250!!!!

May 28, 2015

Hifonics has really stepped up the quality of their amps and am still working on the line of subs. I have two BRX20001.D's strapped at 4 ohms (2 ohms each) running two NVX-VCW124 subs and these guys are POUNDING!!! The 2015 BRX line is 2006 CEA COMPLIANT meaning they actually give you the power they advertise at. After having countless major brands over the years this is by the far the best equipment at the price that provides true rated clean power. These are rated at 2000 watts RMS at 1 ohm, at 2 ohms they give each of my speakers 1400 watts RMS and save on electrical juice in the ride. This is very clean consistent usable power and they don't even warm up to the touch even running them at full tilt. I was so impressed with the first one that I was running 4 Pioneer Champion tens with I bought a second I'm running as a "slave" connected to the first. Wow. That's all.

Owned 2007 model of the amp previously wire to a 1 ohm load with 2 12 Kicker L7 never experienced heat or and reliability issues even at a full 2000 watt load at 14.2vold (truly measured 2130 watts RMS with multi-meter amperage meter and oscilliscope) i sold that stereo. now just picked up a 2013 model with 1 12 Kicker L7 and a big box. Currently running 4 Ohm load and reading a true 740 watts RMS (Not a true 4 ohm resistance from the L7 like 3.5 ish when measured with multimeter . Very Good amp equal to rockford and JL from a electrical stand point maybe not sound processing.

I have used Hifonics for a Few years consistantly. No issues or problems with any of the amps. I own 4 brx2000's . I believe it the best amp for the 220$ range ever offered by any company. Run cool ,put out rated power, "watch Steve meade test them on utube". Look sweet, wow unreal performance performance , I think I talked myself into ordering another.

Amazing true rms power even at 1 ohm!

December 4, 2013

I bought this to replace a 3yr old abused brz1700.1D that finally died, and all I can say is AMAZING! 2 gauge will work but do not use 4 it is too small for this beast. With a yellow top optima and 120 amp factory alternator this amp is surprisingly efficient with minimal light flashing after adding a 2 farad cap. I have it pushing a MA HIPPO 122 and it hits like no other.. This one sub will put many dual sub systems to shame! If you feed it the power it needs, this amp wont disappoint. Just beware and have good subs. a cheap type r or even a pair isn't going to handle this amp long.

Great clean power. Good price.

September 18, 2013

I'm running 1 sealed 10" subwoofer on this amp. The power is WAY more than enough. The input sensitivity is at about half so that the bass doesn't overpower the rest of the frequency. The sound is clean too. Very little harmonic distortion. It doesn't heat up much at all either (though I'm not running it hard in my little car). Overall great buy!

I bought this amps back in May but had to install them like a week ago. I am running them on stock car battery, I get somewhere like 13.5V, measured. The amps power each a 15 inch Alpine R subs in ported box. I was a bit skeptical by reading reviews, but damn. The subs are 750 RMS running the amps at 2 ohms, delivering about 1300 RMS. Awesome. The sound, the lows are great. Installed them into Renault Clio RS 2007. Great value for money. Fabulous design. Will definitely buy Hifonics again.

Outstanding amp and service

October 6, 2014

I can start by saying I'm a first time buyer of Hifonics amps and boy do they deliver. Many people have mentioned this particular amp requires 2-0 gauge wire however I've been running mine on 4 gauge and so far no issues. Shout out to sonic electronixs for yet again excellent service and fast reliable shipping. I have the amp pushing 2 alpine T12s and they knock hard, and very clean! I also have a kicker cx1200.1 amp and well this amp surely does step up to the plate. If I were to compare the two I would say this amp is just a notch behind my cx1200.1 amp. All in all I'm loving this amp hits hard hits well and well the best part for my setup is the illuminated Hifonics symbol have it in the center backseat and looks super dope especially with a remote start car.

This thing is literally a beast

April 3, 2014

I purchased this one as an upgrade from the Brz1200.1 that I had for a year (for the record it was still in new condition just was planning to get more subs) and this thing is crazy loud. I have it hooked to 2 kicker 07cvr152 (rated 500 watts rms each) wired to 2ohms and I don't have the gain 1/2 up and it pushes them to their limits. It never gets warm even after long abuse. I can't think of one con about it. After the first amp I was sold on the brand and never regretted it.... I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM

SWEET AMP!!!!

October 6, 2013

Works very well and puts out some juice! I've hooked up several different boxes to see how they all sound. The 3 12"s in a sealed box was very accurate and not overpowering @ 2.67ohm. The single 15" in a large ported box @ 1ohm was the loudest. Currently running 2 12"s in a ported box @ 1ohm and it's almost a tie with the 15", but it's a smaller box and that gives me more trunk space so the 12's stay....for now! Overall a great amp @ a great price!!!!

Hifonics is always my go to amp....

December 13, 2013

This is my 4th Hifonics amp that I have owned in the last 16+ years I've been into car audio. I have never had one go out on me no matter how many times I messed up...re wire cross wire touch wire ect...lol. They are pretty pricey were I live so I always buy them online and sell them a couple years later for more then I paid for them. Once they herd my system they didn't care they just wanted it. I have literally owned every mainstream amp ever made...tried everything best buy sells. top end amps made by Diamond and Cadence, daytona, Everything power acoustic, ever made or thought about making.[you get my drift] This is the most bang for your buck. amp. Next Imma try that Belva 5000d, But I have this brx 2000d hooked to 2 soundqubed, hds315's My neighbors hate me. So for a good budget build this is a good start, make sure you get a second battery, not a compactor they don't do anything

A Product That Delivers

August 15, 2014

I bought this because it is CEA compliant and a great value. The amplifier looks and feels great when holding it. Nice brushed metal look and the blue lighting is an aesthetic plus. The heat sinks look nice but they are sharp, so be wary. Only criticism would be that the pictures (meaning the location and sizes of the wiring terminals are different from the actual product) and the fact that this product is bundled with a 1/0 gauge wiring kit can be misleading. It is imperative that you purchase with this amp, 2 1/0 gauge wire adapters with 4 gauge pins because it is physically impossible to get 2000 watts of power output when the maximum current carrying capacity of 4 gauge wire is roughly 60 amps... 1/0 gauge is about doubled that. trust me on this, I'm 19 :P I have it powering 4 kenwood kfc-xw12 wired down to 1 ohm in a 5 cubic ft box in my Hyundai elantra. with the gains set properly they are getting all the power they need without any clipping.

will this amp handle straight 0 gauge wire to the postive/ground?
A shopper on Aug 25, 2014
Best Answer: Hello,It really depends on the manufacture of the wiring you are referring to. MOST "premium" manufactures' 0 Gauge wire [i.e. Kicker, NVX, etc..] may not fit well without shaving away some wiring. This , of course, isn't ideal because you want as many strands as possible. So, most of our customers include a pair of Stinger SPT521 1/0 Gauge Input to 4 Gauge Pin Adapter.

This will be a mouthful...
I currently have 4 gauge wire (CCA) and its true 4 gauge; I have two running from the battery to a distribution block. Each wire is fused with a 60Amp AGU fuse about a foot away max from the battery. I read reviews saying this amp requires a lot of power therefore I was wondering if I will be fine just combing two of the 4 gauge power wire from the distribution block with a 0000 gauge connector and having the other end have about 5-6 inches of wire (0-4 gauge OFC) to the amp (I just assumed that's not a good idea given shifts in current flow however, my optimistic mindset got the best of me) . I plan on upgrading to 0 gauge (CCA) wire however for the time being is this fine or should I just run one 4 gauge wire to the amp; or should I just wait for my cable upgrade (which will be 3 weeks after amp arrives...)? I will be powering two Alpine Type Rs SWR T12 subs at 2 ohms. (The BRX2000.1d will be the only amp connected to the car everything is stock on the vehicle and the battery is in the trunk so power wire is shorter in length if that helps.
A shopper on Sep 4, 2014
Best Answer: That's kind of funny u said 4ga. I did it at first trying to save alittle money & I burnt my true 4ga. After a few weeks, so I now have a true 1/0ga. & let me tell u, u can tell the difference big time! This amp is a monster I have it running 2-12" NVX VCW's D4's at 1ohm in a 1.8 cubic ft ported box tuned @ 34 hz & it is SUPER SUPER LOUD! Everyone thinks I have 15's or even 18's, I also have the matching 4 Channel the BRX640.4 running a pr. NVX 6x9's & a pr.NVX 6.5's & it is crystal clear! Don't waste your time with a 4ga. U will be disappointed n the end just do right the first time TRUST ME, these are some BAD@SS amps!! Any more questions let me know, been installing for 20+yrs, also Sonic is the way to go... Hope this helps...

Best Answer: Just the power and ground wire. I'm using kicker 4 gauge power wire and ground wire with my BRX2000.1D and it works great but it's thick and high quality wire. If your using cheap wire you might need 0 gauge or go with kicker 4 gauge it's amazing wire and very flexible.

I am running this amp to power 2 Sundown Sa-12's. My question is, what size inline fuse do I need to run from the battery to the capacitor? Thank you.
Frankie M on Feb 3, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Frankie,

For future inquiries, it is wise to provide proper model numbers, instead of a description like "2 Sundown Sa-12's" . We assume you are referring to the SA-12 D2, because it makes the most sense, but if its the other configuration then that may dramatically change the responses from people. Assuming the SA12 D2 wired in Series/Parallel, then we also suggest a 200A Fuse.

Best Answer: Also, with the car revving thing the guy said above, it's not like that, that be like, I could set the max to 8,000 rpm to get maximum power when I need it, or I could set a governor at 6,000 so I'll never really be able to use the full potential. Just because you wire it to be able to push a 1,000 watts each, doesn't mean you're driving around with the stereo cranked. Which is just a bad idea. The belva is probably overrated anyway

Best Answer: Hello,

No. The amp is far too much power (1400w RMS @ 2ohms) . The better match would be the Rockford Fosgate P3D2-12 wired up to 4ohms.

Best Answer: Hello Michael,

You simply wire the subwoofer in Parallel. The 'tentacle' configuration of the subwoofer does not change how you are meant to wire the setup. Bring the Positive (+) wires together, then the Negative (-) wires together, lead each individual 'bundle' to the enclosure, and from the enclosure to its matching polarity. It does NOT matter which output(s) you choose, because the amp is STILL a monoblock, which implies that the connections come together within.

Will this amp be ok powering dual 12in kicker compRs? The subs are rated at 1600 watts rms @ 2 ohms and are in a ported box. I know clipping can be caused by under powering a sub, but does 200 watts really matter?

Best Answer: Hello Liam,

In THIS particular case, the ~200w difference is Not a bit concern. However, it is VERY important that you do not push the system beyond its limits. THAT is where "underpowering" is a problem. You risk SENDING a clipping signal if you overdrive the amp and/or do not have tuned properly. Setting the Gain "Half Way" is not a proper setting, so please do your homework on this or have a professional tune the amp.

will this amp run a jl 12w7?
Justin S on Nov 2, 2014
Best Answer: Hello Justin,

Yes ; you will likely be getting ~1000w RMS from the amp @ 3ohms. This does tip-toe right along what JL Audio calls the 'Danger Zone', so please make sure you do everything within your power to provide a CLEAN signal and proper power/ground to the amp to obtain that.
