The wire looks like aluminum because it’s silver. Did I get the wrong product?

No, this is 100% Oxygen-Free Copper. The silver color is a tin coating applied to the copper strands. This "silver-tinning" prevents the copper from oxidizing (turning green) and makes the wire much easier to solder for permanent connections.

I’m getting engine hum/noise after running this 50ft spool. Is the wire defective?

This wire uses Twisted-Pair Technology specifically to reject noise. If you hear a hum, ensure you haven't run the speaker wire parallel to your vehicle's main high-current power cables. Crossing power cables at a 90-degree angle will solve this.

How do I split the two wires apart without damaging the internal copper strands?

The EnvyFlex jacket is durable but "grippy." Use a sharp utility knife to make a 1" vertical nick in the center valley between the two conductors. Once started, you can pull them apart by hand without the risk of the blade slicing into the wire.

I need to solder these to my speakers, but the solder isn't sticking. What should I do?

Because of the silver-tinning, this wire actually accepts solder better than bare copper. If it’s not sticking, your soldering iron likely isn't hot enough for 12-gauge thickness. Use a higher-wattage iron (at least 40W–60W) to heat the wire properly.

Is 50 feet enough to wire a 4-channel amp to all four speakers in a large SUV?

It is usually sufficient, but plan your route. Measure from the amp to the furthest speaker (usually the front passenger door). If that run is 15ft, you’ll use 30ft just for the front set. Map your path under the trim first to avoid running short.

Excellent silver-plated speaker cable!

I like to buy silver-plated copper wire and cable for audio applications whenever I can because of a good experience with a preamp which has silver-plated internal wiring. To my ears, that preamp sounds extremely "right". Whether the silver-plated wiring is the reason for this, I don't know.....but I buy it and use it just in case it is! The NVX XWS1250 speaker cable I bought uses silver-plated copper. That cable is sheathed in a very flexible-but-durable jacket. Attractive, too---if that matters to you. Just an excellent-sounding product and excellent all-around. Equally effective for car and/or home audio, it's nice, thick 12-gauge cable, and will get the job done!
