Twisted pair wire is used to reduce unwanted noise. Found in the higher end speaker wire and RCA cables, twisted pair wire increases the overall quality of the sound and can help cancel out extra noise.

Companies that do not follow AWG Standards include the thickness of the wire jacket which means the actual wire is not "True to Gauge".
