Too powerful

If you're going to buy this amp, make sure you know what you're doing. This amp is the same internals as the hifonics 2400W amp just with a smaller current handling system. If you don't know how to tune it right you're going to be blowing subwoofers left right and center. The speaker output has been reading up to 62V (at 1 ohm that is equivelant to 3844W). With the fuses that are in it and over-current protection I was still able to blow my hifonics brutus 1200W Peak subwoofer. Aside from that amazing amp, beautiful power coming from it.

I been running the same hifonics amp since 2008 never had any problem with it so when I upgraded the sound system in my truck I went with 2 of these. I would recommend hifonics amps to anyone who want to upgrade without breaking the bank.

Pretty cool amp for a decent price.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a pretty nice sound system for a little bit cheaper. This amp is the perfect middle ground. It's not so nice as to where it'd break the bank but it's not so cheap that it can't deliver its power ratings. I've had this amp for a little over a year and I'm happy with it. I push two Type R's with it just fine.

ok buy

Had this amp for a few months. Made my Alpines kick so hard, people could here my car for blocks. Amp started cutting out after a few months when I played something with too much bass. Called Sonic Electronix. They handled my problem greatly and sent me a new one.

PEOPLE READ VERY IMPORTANT

When i first saw this amp and read through the reviews i knew this would be a very smart choice. i just had mine installed last week and man, this thing slaps so hard its insane. i can here this thing all the way down my street behind my buddy's fence(500ft). When my wife wants a massage i dont even have to get up anymore, i just have my boy go downstairs and turn on the car. sometimes i play some of that young jeezy slap for the premium massage. when i roll into work i roll with style. inside my employees know its me comin because half the store shakes therefor its a mess when i come in. Trust me and ALL the other reviews, this amp is the best if you dont wanna pay too much and if you want serious power. honestly i dont even know how my heart hasnt stopped yet this thing is so loud. ive gotten like 20 loud music ticketts!!!!!

Good Amp

Bought this amp to power a single 10 inch kicker, it pushes it really well and makes it sound good. Only down side to the amp is that when the weather gets hot it overheats really easily. Other than that it is a good amp for a everyday system.

Too much to say!

This amp right here, Wow... All i have to say... I have had this baby power 2 alpine 10" 2012 alpines in a 2 cube ported enclosure at 1 ohm, and they pounded the living hell out of my poor little subby...

I currently have the amp hooked up to a rockford t2d2 woofer at 1 ohm.. And i was a little skeptical at first thinking, why am i hooking up a cheaper amp to a 900 dollar sub...

Man was i wrong. This amp pushed the living hell out of the 900 dollar woofer... Throwing the maximum excursion of 4 inches off the sub with zero stress, at barely HALF THE POWER.

Please.. please buy this amp.. It is the only amp in the price range that can deliver this much bass for the affordable price.

ok to start off. I like to play my music hard and loud. I put these through a lot and there still going. I have them in a slot ported box about 3cu ft.
I have two of them 4ohm wired parallel at 1 ohm.

Very good amp

I purchased this amp about six months ago from sonic electronix and ever sense then I have been very sarisfied with my purchase. This amp is amazingly powerful and is very well built. The price was what won me over. Well worth the money. System pounds very hard with this amp!

Amazing Sub

Great quality subwoofer. I have this hooked up to a RF Prime amp and it hits hard. Have yet to see any Cons with this sub. Shakes the whole car but sound is definitely high quality as well.

for the price this subwoofer is really hard to beat. great sq and has some good spl too. hits the lows very well without any distortion. this is one of my favorites.

Type R

I bought this sub about 6 months ago. At first, I had it running on the stock amp (about 60w rms) in my Cobalt, enclosed in a 1.25 ft^3 sealed box. As one could imagine, it just wasn't loud enough, so I bought a ported box (also from this site) and added a Fosgate amp. I am a guy who enjoys his low notes, and the Type R delivers great low end response! Overall this is a quality product (as is everything Alpine has made) and Sonic is the best site to buy from. I would highly recommend this sub! Combine it with a good 500w amp in a ported box, and you will NOT be sorry.

Greatest Investment Ever.

OMG! Ive been in the car audio game for two years. Over the years ive had everything from cheap to expensive, one to four subs, ported sealed all of that... Finally decided play with the big boys and get nothing but the best.

Super Duper Bass. I have just one in a ported box paired with the Rockford Fosgate Prime R500-1. Perfect Combination. If U Only Want One Get This Pair! Wont B Disappointed.

a good all around sub

The alpine type R is a sub that nobody could be disappointed with. The type R will play very, very loud and still remain clear. I have a civic with the sub bumping i am unable to light a lighter in the car because of the air vibrating (I only have one), I would recommend this sub to anybody.

sounds good in my single cab

I have 2 12" dual 4 ohm in my truck in a custom box I made, internally braces and sealed all the way around. Even though this box was made to specs and solid as a rock I wish they could go a little deeper. But for what I payed these are great and they still hit deep enough to shake windows when I pull up somewhere. Overall this woofer is very versatile and sound good when in the right box.

I have one of these and people think I have much more. Great for inside system, decent if you want to heard coming. but I prob got 470rms or so going to it, not sure how much it can take. Good value. I think 2 of these with 1000rms pushing it would be plenty

Amazing Amp

I've had this amp for 10 months now and its very powerful I'm on my second pair of pioneer 12s and I had to turn it all the way down because I blew my first pair. I have yet to have any problems or complains I love my amp.

way to loud

I would buy this amp, because it just takes anything you throw at it and it will pound any sub, i am putting this amp to my l7 solo baric single 15. I am running it at 1 ohm. Never really gets hot. I have played it going to kentucky on a 4-1/2 hour trip. overall its a sweet amp that will never let you down!!! I would get it if i was you!!

I bought this sub to save some space in my trunk. I have been a two 12s guy for as long as I can remember and was convinced that one sub just could not cut it. I was so wrong. This sub with a pdx 1.600 and a 1.8 ported box kills it. There may be better speakers out there but for the price there is no comparison. Price is all I can say. On and off car audio guy for ten years. Anyway I almost wanna pick up another one just in case my GF ever wants a sub but I'm too cheap for that. Quality bargain hunters search no further.

Good but inconsistant

Let me start off by saying I would give this amp 3.5 out of 5 if I could. This is because the amp was really inconsistant. By that I mean that some days it was an absolute workhorse that pushed my subs hard, and some days it would sound not as loud or even sporatically cut out. I got my battery checked out, checked the ground and wiring, but could never figure out why it would cut out. Overall, I would say this was a good amp and worth the money, but don't be sceptical of people saying it would cut out, like I was before I bought it. Other than my frustrations with the inconsistency, the amp was well designed and has several nice features that really simplify installation.

Nice Amp

I hooked this amp up to a 10 inch alpine type R and it sounded real nice but when I turned it up for 1 song it fried the sub. The sub is only rated for 600 watts RMS so I guess I'm dumb. Not the amps fault, I don't think. The amp it replaced was a 500 watt alpine mdx. I think the hifonics sounds much better than the alpine amp. Now I have to buy a new sub though.

Alpine type r great sound for great price

got this a few months ago for a good price. lows on this subs is clear and deep. running it with alpine cda117 head unit and alpine mrp-m500 mono amp at a stable 2ohms. the thing about this sub is you can't just go out and buy a cheap prefab box, you need to get a box built to its specs to get the full use out of the sub otherwise your system will sound like crap and you can even ruin the sub. spent $250 just to have the box built to its specs. overall great sound for great price.

Great Value

Picked up this amp on sale during christmas. I have it setup on my boat running a Pioneer 10" competition pro. This thing is a little too much power for the Pioneer. I tested it out on a pair of old school Lanzar DC15" (back when Lanzar was some top of the line car audio equip.) and they bumped hard.

Hifonics is the way to go, i love the high quality that is provided i had a problem with the amp but Sonic Electronix handled my problem very professionally and is sending me a brand new one.

They Punch Kittens

I bought a pair of these to go into just over a 2 Cu. Ft. sealed enclosure (MDF sides and back, glass front, separate chambers) They hit very well for being in a sealed enclosure. They are a bit heavy at 26 Lbs. I'm pushing them with a pair of PDX 1.600's with LPF's set to 100 Hz. Even with the gain set to the max, which I don't suggest unless you are using an inline bass remote, I don't get a hint of distortion even when the volume is to a point of being physically painful.

Just what everyone needs!!

Picked up 2 of these alpine 1242d 12's and put them in a ported box hooked up to a mrp-m2000 amp and they can handle the amp on some serious shake work. the ring on the sub flexes great. I had to turn the amp down for sure as not to blow the subs but have them running now @ 4 ohm parallel and they love it. i for sure am going to pick up another set and run them @ 2 ohm b/c they can take it all easily. def competition grade for the folk with a low budget.

These subs pound like no other got em hooked up to a 1600w hifonics amp in ported box and they get really loud but still sound good

wow is all i can say my brother in law got this sub and had a 800 watt max infinity amp. all i can say is wow. all my friend thought he had 2-3 12's in the trunk. all we listen to is rap and it picks up every beat in every song. so many ppl gave him compliments. he had to have the best system in my town. sub is well worth it and sonic electronics has it for by far the cheapist.

Excellent value

This amp is one ohm stable and provides the actual RMS output it is supposed to(unlike Sony xPlode and other brands I consider a joke). I run a competition sub in a tuned box and this amp has plenty of power to drive the massive motor and magnet it has. It produces clean bass and has never gotten hot. I can make peoples ears hurt and get girls wet from bass and vibrations, lots of power. If you are looking for a budget friendly amp that produces great power, this is the amp for you!

brutus 1200 d

i would recommend for a cheap amp i do spl copm. and have 18 inch fi audio subs i hooked up the brutus amp and it actually powered up my sub a little. but you haft to understand this sub weighs 90 lbs and requires a 3000 watt minimum power up. so the fact that this sub even made a sound was impressive. if you need a cheap amp buy it.

Much Better Clarity

Had a store credit, added some bucks to it and got this ALPINE SWR-1242D with the idea of swapping it out with the Hifonics BRUTUS I already had in a ported 1.75cf enclosure.

Part of what made the decision was because Sonic listed the cutout diameter as 11". * * * IT IS NOT... IT IS 10+7/8". * * *

That was a minor annoyance as I had to graft a 2nd baffle piece on top of the enclosure over the original hole (the original whole was just a hair too big, the screws would have ripped-out of inside of the circle in the wood for sure).

Anyhoo.... ON TO THE GOOD STUFF....

The clarity of the reproduction of the bass tones with this driver I noticed definite improvement over the Hifonics BRUTUS. And I'd have to say there's even a little more of a punchy crispness to those certain kinds of kick-drum type hits too.

Theirs no comparison when it comes to the stiffness of the cone/dust cover on top. The BRUTUS could be flexed easily with fingers.

I'm only running this with a HITRON HA-1000.1 @ 2 Ohm and it gets loud and sounds damn good. However I get the feeling that with a more powerful amp this thing could be pushed even further. I dare not push it too hard with the HITRON for fear of underpowering it and burning the voice coils. That being said the SPL is already ridiculous and gives respectable migraines (HeHe).

The box comes with banana-plug jumpers for the voice coils and the voice coil connections are all right together. Nice and easy. It also comes with a rubber push-in ring which covers over the screws for a clean look to the install.

The documentation pamphlet shows a ton of different ways to configure connections to one or multiple amps connected to one or multiple woofers showing the Ohm load presented for each configuration. I was always curious about 3 woofers configs so that was kinda neat to read.

I love watching my watter bottle dance around in the cup-holder. =)

if you own a ford ranger and you are thinking about getting some real man beat. Get two of these subwoofers then go find an amp that will run at 1 ohm. if you run the alpine type R at 1 ohm, it will be loud

my God, these subs hit hard. my friend has 2 in his trunk, and, although he says he's blown some in the past, he hasn't done so in 8 months now. Not sure what type or size amp he's running but boy do they sound good. I didn't know Alpine made such good subs, thought they were a speaker company. but not only do these shake the trunk of his mustang, the sound quality is not half bad.

Very good bang for your buck amp

This amp is a really good bang for your buck, plus its CEA compliant so you can have peace of mind. I have owned this amp for about 1 year and it has never given me any problems nor has it never gotten hot or went into protect mode.
This amp currently powers my 1 12" Kicker L7 sub. The sub is Dual 4 ohms and i have it wired to a 2 ohm load and this amp powers it without any problems.
For such a powerful amp, it is pretty small (Digital technology For The Win) so you can install it in a lot of tight locations.

bass feels so good

I have one of these amps pushing three powerbass 12s in a sealed box, and it hit so hard. I'm going to buy another one and three more 12s.

Solid Clean Power

I am completely satisfied with this amp it gets the job done and a whole lot more! I upgraded from my brutus 1208d to this 1700.1d and it is perfect. I am powering an Audioque sdc 2.5 15 dual 4 wired to 2 ohms in a 4.6 cf tuned to 32 hz stuffed in the trunk of my grand marquis and i love it. This baby puts out some really clean power, i have my gain set to 2.5v to match my headunit. With no bass boost at the amp or HU, i just have my eq set to 0 and it is clean as #@%$ I have a yellowtop up front and all Knukonceptz wiring.
Also, a huge thank you to Sonic Electronix for your awesome free shipping, not only was it fast (4 days total from cali to ohio) but you guys pack your shipments like gods, there was at least 4 inches of thoroughly packed packing peanuts surrounding the amp box on all sides, I am extremely satisfied.

GREAT SOLID AMPLIFIER!!

At first i was a little apprehensive about this amp because i have never owned anything from Hi Fonics but after i read the reviews i was sold! I had it running two rockford fosgate hx2 10's in a slot ported enclosure wired at 1ohm and this thing pushed the subs HARD!!! This amp barely even gets warm! unfortunately one of the subs blew a coil so now i have it running just one in a different slot ported enclosure at 2 ohm and i am tempted to say it may be even louder; it flexes the roof of my little mazda truckl! Terrific amp for the price i recommend it to anyone!

Why spend more

This amp runs my two re sex 10 " subs. It never over heats or shuts down it just keeps pounding away and it sounds awesome

Good amp.

I have this amp hooked up to 2 RE Audio SEX wired to 1 ohm. This amp sounds great, I have not felt it get hot yet but it does hog a lot of power sometimes I feel like more than it should. I would recommend this amp to anyone who is on a budget. I can only think of one other amp in this price range that is better. I have had this amp for about 6 months and it still runs strong. The heat sink fins are very sharp so be careful!

These things pound, I only have one hooked up to a crunch amp but it is still one of the loudest systems in my town. I cant wait to get another one or two of these. They are durable and they sound awesome with little to no distortion, and they can pound forever.

Deep

I don't have This sub but my friend does and he is only putting 600 watts into it and he has just one of these and trust me it sounds better than a kicker l7 series sub. I cant even hear myself talk in his car its so crazy.

Hifonics BRX 1200.1D

I bought this amp to power the Hifonics OLYMPUS SUBWOOFER that I recently purchased from Sonicelectronix.com. This amp is not only powerful but beautiful. The blue LED lighting set's off the brushed aluminum look of the amp. I put my Olympus 12 in a 2.0 cf 32 htz box and wired it to this amp at 1olm and it pounds. I did a BIG 4 upgrade with all OFC 0AWG wire back to my distribution blocks then OFC 4awg to the amp the wiring upgrade got me from 12.6 volts to 15.7 volts to my amps so I'm getting my 1200 watts rms to my sub and it pounds. Strong subwoofer

Great strong subwoofer...i have 4 of these in a 3rd order box and ran a mrp-m2000 them at 2 ohm. they took the power all day never got warm or had excersion issues. Great sub for beginner car audio competitors.

Great Amp

Will push and blow 4 4ohm 12s...the more you pile on this Amp the more itwill produce never runs hot...great buy I bought two each.

Still taking 1 ohm my amp works fine. I live in minnesota its winter and gets below 0. Amp is solid its on a skar vvx 12 2.5 ported slot at 30-32 herts for 1 sub and amp i shut down a type r a pair of explodes and kicker dont try me without a L-series best amp at price i bought 4 different amps from sonic electronicx all 4 work this is my amp of choice it wont let u down and if it does buy another 1 get 1 that works and its a very good product.

I rated it 4.5 stars for making a day out of trouble shooting im changing it to 5* when i bought the amp i thought it was gonna put out 900watts rms to my scar vvx 12 d4... after receving the amp i noticed it wasnt possible to hook it up to 2ohm load so i went for the 1ohm load and risked my scar. My lisence plate moves in waves and my bass nob fell off my lap with 1 sub and all windows down 5* clean power looks great and its 2006 compliant cant go wrong!!! Banging on a budget or with a wallet i would still recomend 5* and like always Sonic Electronics gave me a great product! SonicElectronicx for life!

Awesome Amp

This amp is amazing. It puts out great power and doesnt even get warm to the touch. I have a Hifonics Zeus Square 15" Sub and it slams. I need to build a bigger box, but the amp is perfect!

This amp is a beast. I just got it in today. Hooked it up and it blew my kicker cvrs not even half up. So i took my cvrs into the local dealer where i bought them to b replaces. The amp pushes what it advertises. And its at a great price and the shipping is quick

This amp is truly awesome. I own 2 of these bad boys, and they rock. If you buy this amp, you would be really impressed with the true power it reproduces. The only negative to this amp is that it has no fan. One thing I can say: you won't be disappointed.

Best amp in its class and not that expensive!

This amp is a must if you want your system to slapp...i have 3 ppi 10in subs, a ppi pc104, ppi pcx104 and a ppi pc102 connected down to exactly 2 ohms and my god does it nock in my 95 chevy pickup, shakes the whole thing and clean bass had it on for like 2 hours and stays nockin best amp i ever owned... durability idk yet cuz ive only owned for 2 weeks and so far so good..

Very Impressive Quality

This amp is just simply amazing! I went from my Alpine MRP-M500 at 300RMS to this amp at 400RMS at 4 ohms and wow!.. this amp sounds way cleaner, much nicer and so much more powerful! I just bought this amp and ran it for about 20 minutes and was amazed. Cant wait to run it at 1ohm and really push the amp. Even with my weak electrical system at 12.8 volts it produces a lot of power and stays so clean!

Alpine SWR-1242D (TYPE R)

Had my type r alpine subs doing 160 db at the last sound off and won my whole division so I recommend these subs to anybody that wants to be loud......

Pros: alpine trusted brand, solid bass, high quality sound, and reasonably priced, extremely durable

Cons: it wasn' t free lol, no weaknesses, do not under power, can't handle power, buy a real amp

Hifonics BXi 1208D was good one this one should be too

I have Hifonics BXi 1208D running 12' type R at 1 ohm for about two years now. Great amp you need to read the manual to tune it properly. Definitely need a capacitor with it. Great amp i would recommend it to a friend.

i bought two and i couldn't be happier. i'm powering them just with an old school kenwood 800 watt and the sound is so clear, the bass is so deep and pure that i'm scared to buy a bigger amp

Best bang for the buck

i got 2 of these BAMFS along with an audiopipe and a pioneer and i gotta say that they thump and thump hard. if ur lookin for sum powerful subs that will rattle ur car and piss off the neighbors, i would definitely recommend these. just make sure u get an amp that will push em! U'll sound like u got king cong in da trunk!

great quality for less money

These subs shook my whole car and i only had them hooked up to an 500 watt amp. i would def recommend these subs and am going to get them again in my new car!

Powerful for the price

I haven't personally clamped the amp myself but everyone on SMD forums say they do rated power. I have mine wired to 2 ohms on 2 Sundown Audio SA-12 D2's in a 4.5 cu.ft. vented box and they slam hard. And that's only running roughly 450 rms through each sub. It's also efficient. I'm running this on my stock electronics in my 2003 explorer (130 amp stock alt) and there is no dimming on anything. It's a very clean amp. I have it mounted to my back seat and it just looks perfect. We'll just have to see how long it stays alive.

Great amp.

I am using this amp with 2 Sundown audio 12" subs "E series". I have 2 4 ohm subs and are wired up to a 1 ohm load. The amp hasn't had any problems at all. I bought this because I was on a budget, and am glad that I did. I have money now if i wanted to, but I just dont need to buy another amp because it works so good rite now. Great amp

This amp is an excellent choice if you want good performance at a great price. I've had this amp powering two Skar VVX 12's for about half a year now. This amp barely gets warm even after beating on it for an hour in the summer.

Great Amp

I have this pushing 2 P3's @ 1 Ohm and it does its job very well! The amp is pretty beefy to and looks great! The sound quality it provides is more than what I was expecting and I expect this to last a very long time. I know it's going to sound even better when a get an aftermarket battery. I have my stock car battery and it still sounds great but I can't wait to give this amp the full power it deserves.

Perfect and TRUE AMP

This product works excellent and correctly powers two 600rms 15" p3s i have. I hooked them up and it powers them perfectly. I would totally reccomend this for anyone that is looking to throw some serious power in their car. You may need to add a second battery though to stop the headlight dimming caused by the 1200rms.

The amp produces clear power down to 1 ohm. It is stable, efficient and cool. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost some hearing from all the bass.

Clean Power

I have this amp running 2 Alpine Type R 12's at 2 ohms. It produces loads of clean, controlled power. Havn't had any issues in the 6 months I've had it. The logo lights up in a cool blue color, which is nice. But my main concern is its clarity and accuracy, which is great. This is my first Hifonics amp and I would recommend it to anyone considering it.

okay for the price

Okay so I had this amp for 3 months before I sold it and it was an okay amp for the money. I had this amp pushing a 15 " Alpine Type R wired down to 1 ohm and it played pretty loud but I had to turn the gain almost all the way up to get it at a decent level. Sound quality was good but not great. its pretty power hungry so you better have something better than a stock electrical system or you'll be seeing a lot of headlight dimming and won't get the best results like I didn't. As for looks this amp is very stylish I like the blue Hifonics sign lol overal this is an okay amp if you don't have the cash for a more expensive amp. By the way I upgraded to a Rockford Fosgate T1000BdCp and its awsome. I wrote a review on that one too ;)

BIG POWER FOR THE SMALL BUCKS!!

I recently purchased this amp as a budget project for my son's first vehicle...I was not expecting too much for only $240.00.... after critically listeneing to his sytem, I found this amp is quite robust and does seem to have high damping at high volumes. For so much bang their is really very little draw on his stock charging system. Really plays out well through the low tones. HIghly recommend to anyone. GREAT AMP FOR THE PRICE AT SONIC!

very affordable entry level sub

This sub is very affordable and doesnt require that much power. I had 2 of these hooked up to a hifonics bxi1200, that was a pretty good match. I originally had it in a prefab vented box, didnt sound to good so i made a sealed box with the exact specifications in the owners manual. Very clear subwoofer i tried them free spaced and they sounded a little better in my tacoma i would buy again.

LOUD and CRISP!

Well, it bought two of these 12's to connect to my BOSS amp (very fine product BTW), and these thangs HIT! I bought these to replace my older Infinity References and it was the smartest move. Not only do they hit harder, but they take as much juice as you can throw at them. If you get two (which is a bargain at this price; almost the price of one from other places) you can wire them for either a 1-ohm or 4-ohm load. At 1-ohm they are the loudest subs on my block. I've never seen a lower price for these kevlar reinforced 500-RMS monsters.

Huge Improvement of Product

I had bought 2 type r's back on 2002 and I was very disappointed with their performance. Now that they have been redesigned and the surrounds made to mimic the type x with 500 watts rms rather than 300 rms you get an awsome bang for your buck. Also with the sealed 12" boxes available from sonic you can run more power to them and not worry about blowing this sub. I plan to run it at 2 ohms with 1000 watts rms daily. I definately suggest running sealed but that's my personal preference on any sub. I've seen several with mrd1000's and they thump.

I would recommend because the rms it says it has is right on. Wasnt to sure intil i purchased and now i know. Runs my 1000 rms sub to the max.

First one broke, now the second one broke too

I am a professional installer and I hooked this up correctly but it just never worked well. so I sent it back and got a new one. No worries right? WRONG this time its lasted 4 months and it pooped out too. Time to send back to sonic's great customer service (I really mean it, its top notch). spend a lil more money and get something worth while like a Rockford Fosgate amp that would be my best advice to you friends. STAY LOUD!

Great amp for the money

This amp has done very well. I've had it for 6 months and not a problem yet. I was running 2 10in cvr's with this amp it pushed them damn good. Now I have it pushing 2 10 in Sundown Sa's and its Not enough power for them. I will be getting a bigger amp from the brz line.

good amp

I have this amp paired with a Rockford 12" t1 running off an optima and an extra shuriken battery and this thing slams, so far I have only turned the gain to about 1 or 2 o clock out of about 5 an its nasty for a single sub. I need to invest in dynamat. So far have had no problems besides adjusting phase but ill keep posted.

blown away

i first bought the boss onyx 1800 i had running 3 audiopipe tsvr's at 2 ohm load it worked well after they popped. Then i bought a scar vvx 12 d4 so i could run at 2ohm's at 900rms a little over rated rms by 300 watts on the boss the skar blew up the boss amp pulled out the sub leads were still silver!. I was a little worried that it would be to much due to running the boss and going to a 2006 complient amp the hifonics. CLEAN POWER LOOKS GREAT worth it at 159 made a offer got it for 147. only diss is that i had to jump a wire from the power to the remote for it 2 turn on couldnt figure it out for the life of me compleatly re ran my wires still no power tried the old jump trick turned on. Blue lights in my opinion are a nice touch that doesent scream i payed for lights not watts. just enough of a touch ima give a 4.5 stars only because i had a 6hr day trouble shooting! all in all would not only recomend to anyone its real power tested and proven again and again hifonics makes quality amps! buy it features cant be found under 300 at that power level!!!!!!

THE BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!

I really have nothing bad to say about this amp. Hifonics is a name of the past, yet based on reviews I decided to give the amp a try for the price. This amp pushes some raw power. I have it hooked up to a 10" Alpine Type R 10D4 pushing 900 watts @ 2ohm and she puts out a beautiful crisp clean sound. Great combination!

bad azz for the price

Had since January and not one problem! I'm running two jl w6s 12's and that amp runs those without a problem. Will definitely buy from Hifonics again.

Ok amp

Worked well for about a year. Had it wired to 1ohm on some CVR 12's. Decent low grade amp. I would say one of the better of the cheap amps. Although if you wire it down to 1ohm i wouldnt expect it to last more than a year if it's being played every day.

I only got it cause i was strapped for cash at the time. And basically would only recommend as such. An amp to use for a year while you save for a better one. If you want more use than that id say dont wire to 1ohm.

Not so sure

This amplifier, from the reviews, looked and sounded like it would be a good choice. I ordered it and received it in 3 days. Great speed for free shipping. The package wasn't damaged and everything inside looked good. When I wired it up though, that's when fuses on the amp started blowing. I got through and they offered a replacement or my money back.

Great amp

Had this on 2 dual 4 type r's and it slammed HARD. I had it in for almost a year and a half at 1 ohm and it never failed me. Clean power great price... Cant go wrong with this amp.

This is all you need

This amp has POWER. I got this hooked up to two(2) 10" Alpine Type-Rs in a Memphis ported box and WOW, once you set your levels and everything right this thing has lots of potential. Be prepared to fix rattles! I had to fix multiple rattles caused by this amp LOL this involved putting a rubber padding behind my license plate, and pieces of foam in various places. It also has a nice blue glow, which looks good at night, not tacky.

This sub is a great high quality sub 4 the money!!! I have one 12 type R sub in a in a slot vented box, The box is 2.7 to 2.9 cu ft .it is twice the size recommended, but still slam,s. i have this sub powered by a Jackhammer jh 600 amp, thats 673 rms of power!!!!!!!! This sub will take every bit of it with no fear. but i only have the amp at half way and it is still heard from 3 to 4 blocks away from my house. I got my first ticket for noise pollution a couple months back. The officer testified that he felt coming from well over a hundred feet. The bass quality is superb, can't wait to get another one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Flexxin

These are my first subs so can't compare much but i got them wired to 4 ohms with a eclipse za1200 amp and it flexxes my roof so these are worth the money long as you get a custom box made. had a prefab and it made my subs sound like they were made by a bunch of junkies but once i got my 4.6 cubic foot tuned to 32 it pounded. dont hesitate 2 buy. don't skimp on anything..ie, wiring, rca's, box, even the foot of speaker wire cuz 1 cheap thing will lower the quality

Hits HARD

This sub is crazy. people think (me once included) that if it wasnt a kicker or something equally as hyped, it wouldnt hit hard. I read reviews and actually just got lucky with these. My sub (audiobahn) blew out due to installers mess up and so they gave me this one for free. I thought there was gonna be no way it would be better than my old one which hit pretty hard... It blew my old one out of the water!! I loved it so much that a week later i bought another one with a bigger amp and box. I loved it. It is easy to underpower these things so unfortunately u need 2 buy a decent sized amp that will cost u a little bit but its worth it. Do yourself a favor and save money (contradictory to what i just said but compared to a kicker u will save) and get these. You wont be disappointed... btw my amp is a alpine 1000 watt rms amp. (these give out 500 rms each but can go higher. my amp mite b underpowering them)

This thing is SOLID. Working at the local shop, having to move these things around gets tiring. I put one of these in my Dodge Ram between two bucket seats up front. I also had two 10's under the back bench so i cant say how this does alone. But i know with the other subs my truck was extremely loud inside the cab. It sounds great and im going to put 3 of these in my 240sx. I can see this thing going for a long long time.

I have had this sub for about six months now and it is awesome. It hits very hard for just one sub powered by a 700 watt amp. I have it in a ported box and it hits everything with ease! It has stood up to the most demanding songs. I would recommend this to anyone who wants very good bass and a very durable sub.

Very Good Quality

I honestly wouldn't put one of these in my car again but i will have to admit, this sub is really nice. I just don't like the way it looks in my trunk lol. But if you want a damn nice sub that can take abuse and can hit lows, this is for you. This sub is durable as can be. No tinsel leads to worry about because they are under the spider and the excursion is ridiculous. The SQ is quite good too. Definitely needs to be ported i think, but it depends on what you like boomy or flat response. I would recommend this sub if you want a really good quality sub that will last a long time.

i have two of these in a 2001 Pontiac grand prix gt and they make my window and my bumper bounce.i have these ran down to 1 ohm according to the diagram and running them off of a boos outlaw 5000w mono amp and they take every bit of it and no distortion what so ever Ive owned mtx, jl, and kicker, these are by far the best sub in my opinion on the market.If you want pure bass and no distortion these are your best bet.

Super AWESOME!

I use to own a pair of these bad boys and I was ecstatic when I got them hooked up! The bass was unbelievable and to top it off the SQ was right there with it! But all good things must come to an end, and they did... when they were STOLEN!

I ALMOST bought them again, but then Alpine made the Type-X! Holy cow! It's the type-r's on steroids! If you don't want to pay the extra $120 buks, go with the Type-r's and you wont have any regrets!

Just installed mine tonight and I had to go riding a couple blocks. I am hooked on alpine after hearing my two in a 6cu ft box tuned to 34hz in the trunk of my 1993 cadillac devile (which has a one inch firewall between the cabin and the trunk) powered by my soundstorm cr4000.1 at 1 ohm. The bass is insane at low volumes with the bass setting on my head unit at the very minimum. These subs do way more than I expected them to do. The best part is that they require so little power to do it my amp might as well be on vacation. I had to reduce the level of bass boost on my amp. Thanks /////ALPINE and Sonic

best amp ever owned

Just got mine installed in my 1999 grand prix gt hooked up to 2 jl-w3 and they are insane very clean bass and hit super hard in my ported box. It's crazy, if i had more cars and this amp would be put in every one.

Great power at a Bargain price!!!

I purchased this amp for my brother. I have heard it and will have to say for the money you spend, this is a great amp! He has it pushing a T1D212 Rockford Sub, and it pushes it beyond its limit. We have never clipped the amp or (protect mode) it's great, and believe me he runs it hard@ 1ohm. I personally have a Rockford Fosgate T1000.1 amp. It may produce more power but you will pay more for it! All in all hifonics has not dissapointed GREAT amp for the price! I am rating this amp as if I own it, because my brother and I are joined at the hip so to say when it comes to being AUDIO freaks lol. Hope this review helps out. PLAY it loud fellow audio enthusiasts!!

It is BAD!!! 2 rockford fosgate he2 12's pound with this amp. Never gets hot. More than enough power to hear me coming a block away. BUY IT!!!!!!

Massive Power

BUY THIS BEAST! it has 1,200watts! all day. never hits protect mode. draws average amount of juice. (in my '90 civic) good sound. No problems with it in three months owned. Used and slightly abused daily. :) It is very stable at 1ohm!!! No lies in the products overview. Only con is that I lived so long without this amp. (I have it bridged down to 1ohm on (2) BRZ12SQD4 Hifonics subs) don"t be scared of this lesser known Name. I have the amp's gain at less than 1/2 but It still is heard blocks away!

clean power :)

Bought this amp over the summer to push 2 kicker CVR102 subs. Didn't take long for the amp the burn them out. I smelt smoke while cruising then eventually one sub started popping. Not sure why this happened having the subs rated for 800 rms together and the amp rated for 900 rms at 2 ohms. After that i purchased a single type R and this amp pushes it nicely; pushing the sub at 450 rms. Have it hooked into the stock system on my Jetta and it hits nice; not too much pounding, just nice clean and clear bass when the song calls for it. I Prefer the clean and easy bass over any pounding that i have had in previous set ups where the whole car shakes from the outside.

to say the least

I have this amp hooked up to a 13.5" JL Audio w3v2 in a built to spec ported enclosure. The sub slams as expected, with the gain to the max and playing a few bass heavy songs I can see/smell the sub fail with some of the long low bass notes. Amp is running at 2 ohms, the sub is 600rms 1200max.

Great amp i have it wired to 1 ohm pushing 2 4ohm dvc Apline typr-r 12's and it sounds amazing. The amp itself is quite large. Connections are easy to work with and felt sturdy.

Awesome System

Used this amp along with my 2 12" Alpine Type R's, One one of the hardest most clear systems I have ever owned. Great great amp, highly reccomend a good capacitor with this amp though, I have a 6 fared and lights still slightly dim. This is a powerhouse hungry Amp, but well worth it.

This amp is incredible. Ordering another one for other sub. Would definitely recomend to every one. The brz1200.1 is by far the best amp I've ever owned and compared to my Alpine m1000 it's by far more superior. I hate the m1000 compared to this amp do buy and good luck.

Big Bang for the Buck

I would have never said I would recommend a Hifonics Amp years ago, but I have to tell you this amp pounds my CVR15. I would highly recommend this amp to anyone on a budget that wants the vehicle to pound. In fact I will be ordering its brother the Zeus to do my mid high duty. These amps have changed over the years passed and are built with excellent quality. There are many useful controls to adjust the sound to your tastes.

Great Amp....Beastly

This is a great amp. Good bang for the buck. It is totally worth the cost and will hold it's on. I have two Alpine 1243d subwoofers and the total RMS for both of them are 1200 watts rms. The amp can most definitely supply the power when it's needed. It also has a bass knob which is very convenient to turn up and down when needed. The amp also looks cools and great style and the Hifonics letters glow when the amp is on. If you are tryin to supply the power needed for the speakers then this amp is a must to have. It is also good to know the amp is CEA compliant so you know you are getting what you are paying for..

BZ1200.1

I have this amp. its the best. i was unsure about Hifonics, but this amp made me think different. I'm going to upgrade to a bigger Hifonics amp. but this did the job great. Looks cool with the led Hifonics brand.
It also says watts rated. No lie about that. A lot of power for 1 little amp.

I'm running a Fi SSD 15" at 2 ohms off this amp. I don't have everything cranked up to the max and it still manages to rattle my mirror off. It's a great amp. Not one overheat/shut off. Would recommend it for anyone looking to do a 2 ohm setup at around 800 watts. It was cheap to boot!

Awesome Subs

Bought two of these to go in my 01 Honda Accord Coupe. Have them in an ported Obcon box, google it, and an Alpine Mrp M1000 amp currently delivering the recommended 500 Watts RMS. They pound, point, blank, period. I'm not really a bass head either, the sound quality while pounding is superb, much more than I expected. I have had all types of subs and these are definitely the best ones I've had in terms of sound quality.

Best bang for your buck

They slam hard. My rear view mirror fell off from them, and I set off a few car alarms too. They hit a bunch of the low notes that a typical 12" cant hit. I have them hooked up to a jl a1800 monoblock amp, and they sound amazing together. my only problem is that it lacks on the higher notes. I may need to make a bigger box, or power my subs at 2 ohms instead of 4. Overall, they're the best

Power

The hardest part to any system is to find the right amount of power, for the alpine SWR 1242 i found the best result came from the Kenwood KAC-9104D. it preforms great, if you are looking for a system with some heavy kick but just one subwoofer. i look forward to making a full transition to an alpine system within the next few months.
i gave it a 5 for the Durability features and ease of use because well, it has not let me down yet, and probably will not anytime soon.

I have one alpine 12, with a jl 500/1 powering it, and this sub is louder than most two twelve systems. i built my own box according to specifications and wow.

my rear view mirror is about to fall off.

i also have 4 alpine type s speakers which make the highs so clear even with the loud sub in the back.

very very clean bass, very low bass as well...

i highly recommend. very highly, after the speakers and the sub both being amazing, way beyond my expectations, i would now have to call myself an alpine man.

Great Tight BASS

the Type R's surround makes it have tight and very deep Bass sounds a lot deeper than a 12, great sub, i have 2 in my roush mustang and they are extremely nice, i got 3 of my friends to buy them and they all love them, a lot cleaner than kicker cvr's and close to as loud as them too. i'm powering them with a Kicker ZX1000.1
(1000x1@ 2ohms) they sound so good, i cant find a thing to be not happy about

IT THUMPS SOOOO HARD!

i have a 4 door truck so i don't have room for a big box. i bought two of these and put them into a box that is only 30" wide. i'm running them off of a boston acoustik 2000 watt amp. this is my ninth pair of subs and i wouldn't trade them for anything. they hit the hardest, go the deepest, and vibrate my car like no other sub i've owned. i gave up kicker cvr, mtx, JL, type E, and another pair of mtx's, but i will stick with these! i will challenge any other 12's at this price!

Beast amp!!

This amp slames my 2 kicker 10" cvr's mine is the 1200.4 model and rhis thing is beast! You can run componets and subs! I recomend this amp for anybody! It is one of the best amps made!

Buget Bass Booming

This amp is not all that to look at becauseit has a boring details but the blue neon words are nice. This is a great amp for the money and has some pushing power when wired at 1ohm and it doesn't get hot and shut down. I have it wire at 1ohm on 4 Massive Audio dual 4 0hm 12 in h subs in my sub and I have no complaint power is doing it job.

This amplifier is more than expected! I have two RF P3's at 1 ohm and they slam hard and get low. I need another battery though. Just this amp is soaking up energy! I'm looking to get another one of these for each sub and wire em up at 2 ohm for the type of music I listen to and that means double the power! I can't wait! Highly recommend.

Great bang for your buck (literally)

Great amp, Puts out the amount of power they claim, it's always worked for me. The only issue is the fins on the side are pretty sharp haha.

Both me and my friend have this amp my setup is two Kicker Comps and it moves them like none other and my friend is running his at .5 ohms and it still runs strong but his does get a bit warmer than mine.. but these things a brutal!!!!!!!!!!!

Best beat for your buck

Me and two other friends have pairs of these. All of us have different amps and no matter how many watts or what kind of amp you hook them up to you get great quality and volume. The only thing I didn't like was that the cut out diameter isn't 11in. Kinda messed up my custom box I made but other than that these subs are amazing! Would recommend to anyone!

Great sub for the price

This is a great sub for the price, a lot of bang for your buck. I bought this as well as a Boston spg555 and although the spg555 dominates this sub it still packs quite a punch and is well worth the price. If you're an audiophile i wouldn't recommend this sub though, this is a heavy hitting sub and although better then some subs I've heard, not audiophile quality, would recommend something like the spg555 for an audiophile. Still a great sub though.

Nice Amp

Although I have not owned many amps, the Hifonics Brutus BRZ1200.1D is a very nice amp. It is powering two Alpine Type SWR-1243Ds and makes them hit! It is nice to know it is CEA compliant, however I could only get about 900-1000 Watts without it clipping. I knew this when I bought it though since there is no way I could run it at 14.4 Volts because my car puts out less than that under load. Overall it is a very worthy amplifier and would buy again if I needed to!

INSANE!!!!!

This subwoofer is amazing, I'm running one to an alpine mrp-m500 at 2-ohms with roughly 500 watts going to it and it hits sooo HARD. It blows away my friends two 10" alpine type S's. This subwoofer will put out the best quality of bass that you have ever heard. One important thing tho is to let break in good before you bump it too hard. After she breaks in it is the best sub EVER. please buy this subwoofer if you are looking for extremely goood bass at not a bad price, so worth it!

Running 2x 12'' inch Alpine R series, To a Mono, Mbquart 1500watt amp. and 4x 5 1/2'' door speakers, from a Mbquart 1000watt.
I wouldnt change this setup for anything. Also in a custom, With 4 ported vents. and the 2 subs are enclosed by plexy glass. I can feel the air move in my Jeep.

Subs are great

I bought two of these 12 inch type r's today man do they hit. I did have 2 10" boston acoustic g2's so my 8 gauge wiring kit isnt enough but I will be buying a 4 gauge tomorrow or tonight so these subs will pound, hard. I can't wait my trunk already rattles to all h*** and people love riding in my Plymouth Breeze (I know) because of the clean, hard hitting bass that gives everyone a back massage because of the vibration. The 10" boston acoustics were also awesome, but these are better. I would definitely recommend either of these brands.

Great SPL and power handling.

This subwoofer slams and has great control. If your box is properly designed you will be none the happier. Lacks on SQ but for now I\'m not in the market for a more expensive subwoofer. It works with all types of music. It is a very good subwoofer for the price.

Finally got to hear a single 12'' type-R in my buddies del-sol, needless to say just one of those will shake your ride pretty well, He has a 1000watt amp hooked up to it and it doesnt even bottom out or hiccup. Nice job alpine.

Alpine's Type-R is a great

A friend of mine ran a pair of these on a VA Audio VAAM 1600 in his S10 Blazer for about a year or so. I took them from him and put them in the trunk of my Volvo on the same amp for a few months, and then wound up selling them to another friend of mine to run on, once again, the same amp in his Honda Passport. All I can really say about these is that they are great for what we've spent on them. We've been running them at only 400w RMS per sub (way underpowered, you can hook one of these up to the amp by itself and the full 800w RMS won't distort it by all that much.) When my friend in the Honda upgraded from his Sony Xplod 12" subs he'd had about a year he was amazed at how much louder and cleaner his bass was. Even in the sealed trunk of my Volvo, I would set off car alarms and shake my rear view mirror to the point that I could hardly use it.

Great subs. If you're looking to spend less than $500 for two subs, an amp, and a box, these are a great choice to start off your system.

Note: Even in 3 cars, on 3 amps, being wired countless times in more than 4 different boxes, I've yet to notice ANY drop in sound quality or loudness. They still haven't even began to wear out, which is impressive for any stereo equipment over 2 years old. We even dropped one and cracked the back casing, and it didn't effect anything more than cosmetic damage on the sub. Durability, and therefore resale value when you're ready to move up later on, definitely show here.

I hooked this up to a directed D2400 amp, and you have no idea..this speaker weights a lot because of the enormous magnet that supports the sub.. I've owned over 10 different brands of speakers in my day and i tell you, i will ever own another sub besides this sub..in the future i will probably buy a 3rd type r, but trust me..buy this speaker, plus sonicelectronix is one of the cheapest places on net..dont buy this product from any stores because they range from over 200 dollars..buy this product here from sonicelectronix and you wont regret it..

Thing THing Bumps!

I used to own this sub but have since sold it to a good friend of mine. I only had it in for 2 weeks so I wont comment on my experience as much as my friend's set up, he only has ONE and I can hear him coming in his stang a block away! If you buy this sub you should seriously consider dynamat or something like it cause it WILL make your trunk sound like its about to fall off. Its a great sub and I would recommend it to anyone!

Power!

Only running a single 10" Fi audio SSD at 2ohm on this amp (for now), but it pounds. The illumination on the front is a little bright when I have my seat folded down at night, so I wish there was a switch for that but I can just fold the seat up if need be. Also the angled terminals are a little annoying getting the wires in but it does make the install look a little cleaner. So all in all, can't really beat this amps power for under $200. I will definitely buy another hifonics amp for my other car!

I was looking forward to upgrading my current Visonik V318XT amp to this amp hoping it would make my 2 12 inch cvr's louder. I was disappointed because to make it sound decent I had to turn the gain almost all the way up and put the bass eq on the amp about half way up. I also had to have the bass on the head unit all the way up. The higher bass notes were indeed much louder but this amp cant touch the lower bass notes. While I was trying to get it to sound decent I noticed my subs were starting to smell so I knew the amp was clipping. I immediatly unhooked the amp and reconnected my old amp. My old Visonik amp sounds so much better and hits the lows with ease even though it is much less powerful than this amp. Also with my visonik the gain and bass boost is only half way on the amp and the bass on the head unit can be on 0 and still sound really good unlike this hifonics. One good thing about the amp is that it looks really nice and the blue illuminated hifonics logo looks really cool!

True Power and Sound Quality

I got this installed yesterday and had only about 2 hours of full playtime from writing this review. POWERFUL amplifier indeed and priced so low! I used to have a Rockford Fosgate Punch BD500 amplifier, but sold it and decided to get something else. I'm very statisfied and pleased with my purchase. The subs I have powering are two 15" Orion XTR Pros in a sealed box and my whole car flexes including the windshield, doors, and even the hood. I'm afraid I might blow the subs so I'm hoping to go bigger to the Orion HCCA 10" sub soon to give a good match for the amp. Highly recommend this to anyone who wants loud audio and possibly the only amp ever needed if your just need a good car system. The sound quality of it too is amazing for bass. The only thing I wish all amplifiers would use is either flat head or philips screws instead of using a hex and the heat sinks on the side of the amplifier are sharp so try to avoid touching them when installing., but none the less this amp is awesome and never gets warm on me.

Definitely can't wait to play more. I love bass and this amp provides that need.

great amp

This is my second Hifonics amp. The first was the 1000D, but I have the 1200.1D on a pair of American Bass XD8's in a custom box tuned to 36Hz and this thing makes those 8's come alive. If you're looking for a strong amp, this is the one you need.

Hifonics Brutus BRZ1200.1D

Absolutely fantastic amp! i have it running on 1 ohm at 1200 watts and I absolutely love it! Its pushing 1 power acoustic mofo 122x and it pounds! I've run it for 6 hours strait and it never gets hot. I've never had it go into protect mode plus the bass is crisp and clear. You can hear me coming home from 2 blocks away. Absolutely fantastic amp! I would recommend this to anyone!

I have the brz1200.1d and only running it @450watt. rms. The bass is so hard hitting, can't wait to have it running @ the full 1200w RMS. Have that beast hooked up with sony head unit, power acoustik pre amp, Power Acoustik cap. All bought from Sonic 6 months ago with no regrets. Anyone one wanting a top notch amp, you gotta try the hifonics line.

This is a great amp. I would recommend to anyone that's building a system. I've been running mine for about 6 months now and never had any issues with it. It is pushing one Kicker 12" Solo-Baric L5 in a ported enclosure running at 1 ohm and it sounds great. I've played this thing for hours on end and it never gets hot. Just make sure you use at least 4 guage wiring and do your big three up front and this amp will never let you down!!!

I currently have a kicker solo baric solo classic 10 in a sealed 2 cube box on a fusion 1000 watt mono amp. let me tell you, retail well over 600 and then i find this amp 3 times as good and alpine subs way better than my kicker. The brutus amp is a beast and i will be buying in the very near future. Overall great amp, great products, and excellent prices. Alpine all the way

This is the second subwoofer i have owned (previously had Polk DB) and im happy i got these. I'm running one type r off a kenwood 1800 amp at 4 ohms pushing 500 rms in a ported box. Amazing amplifier, even when only wired to 4 ohms

I have an RE Audio SRX12D2 wired to 4 ohms and even this is enough to shake the entire vehicle. I am more of a hard rock and metal fan, and this amp produces tight and accurate responses. The blue-lit Hifonics logo is pretty awesome, too. Great amplifier!

I have been into car audio for 20 years. I have owned many types of subs(all name brands)all have been in sealed boxes(I like the sound)so that is what my review is on.All of my car's have been about sound quality not about db.I have 2 of these subs each in a 1.2 cf box,In a 1972 Cutlass convertible with a 1000 watt amp pushing them @ 1ohm. These subs are LOUD and sound great!(with the top down and even better with it up). I think these are the best sub for the price and will out play subs that cost much more. i have had the subs running for a year and they get better every day.

TOO LOUD!!!

I bought this amp knowing it would make my subs louder but when we wired it up it was way above my expectations. I have 2 12" kicker comp vr's and they sounded perfect with this amp. It made clean bass but it also was very loud and shook my entire house apart.

My friend has this amp pushing a 15 inch l7 and it sounds great, its such a sturdy amp, all metal and heavy duty. I would get this amp but its not enough power for what i need...overall if you got the money and your subs match the ratings, don't think about it, just buy it. its the best amp for the money hands down.

Great amp so far

I bought this sub from Sonic about 2 weeks ago. For a great price by the way. The Alpine Type R line of subwoofers are exceptional. I am running my Type R 12 at 600 watts RMS and 1200 peak @ 2 ohms in a 1.2 cf sealed box. Hits low, hard and accurate. You'll love it. Good Speaker

If you need a speaker that will sound good in a small box then buy the TYPE R. I have a very small custom box that I've build for my trunk, while doing the research, Alpine speaker said it need minimum of 0.57 cubic feet for enclosed box, and that was perfect for me.
The sound it produced is more than I've expected. Im happy with it.

Well worth the money,

I only bought 1 of these with a MB Quart 1500.1D Wired down to 2ohms at 750watts RMS in a 1.7cf Ported box. I was kind of worried about over powering it by that much and it not being loud enough. But let me tell you. For 1 12" it take all the power all day long with no problem. And gets very loud. Well worth the money and i WILL be buying another one from sonic! Great service fast shipping like always!!!

Great subs!!

The sub is awesome, Ive owned 2 of these in my car for over 3 years now and they\'re still hitting like when they were new. The quality is the best, come on, its alpine. Ive bumped these for hours straight, and they still perform very well. These are good subs because they have really good bass and still has very good sound quality, they will hit the lows and highs like no other subs for the price and even more. I have 2 of these with a pdx1000 amp to each sub and sound very good. I recommend these subs to everyone i talk to, cant go wrong.

Ok here's my setup. 1 1201.1 JBL amp. 2 12 inch alpine type rs. sealed box. kenwood kdc591 excelon deck and a 2 farad powercap. This is one of the loudest systems in town. It's in a f150 extended cab. Let me tell ya these subs when powered to their extent, will make your lungs rattle. the only thing that has come close is two cerwin vega strokers.

Alotta Bang For The Buck

I just ordered two 12" alpine type r's and hooked them up to a 1000 watt RMS amp at 1 ohm. They have been in use for just a little over a month and they definitely pound. Though the subs hit very hard, the bass isn't as deep as I would like. I only listen to rap and if you're looking for subs with very deep bass, go for a sub with a larger magnet or even 15's. But with the price from Sonic, I guess I can't really complain. All in all, if you want a good choice in subs and want to stay at a reasonable price, go with the Type R.

Alpine is famous for premium products. The type r line continues this tradition. The alpine sub hits amazingly hard and is amazingly low priced on sonic electronix. WHen matched with an amplifier from alpine however, be sure to test for true rms wattage as the alpine amplifiers tend to put out more power than advertised. IT may say it pushes 600w rms @ 2 ohms, but it can actually be pushing around 700.

Bottom line, this is a wonderful product, and I'm am going to get another one. This will be my first purchase from here, my first time owning a type r, but not the first time hearing one.

Great sound when in the proper enclosure

This subwoofer sounds real good when in a proper enclosure, however, this subwoofer does not do very well in a sealed enclosure, so i recomend getting a properly ported enclosure, and it will sound much better & louder then with a sealed enclosure.

This subwoofer has a excellent sound quality for a subwoofer in its price range. Just a single Alpine Type R subwoofer, in a properly tuned ported enclosure will make your windshield wipers bounce off your window.

Sooo much bang for the buck

Type-R's are amazing, and dual 4-ohm is the way to go. Wire these babies down to one ohm, get a solid amp, and you'll be setting off car alarms whereever you go.

I listened to one of these at b*** b** and fell in love, but they were selling them for over $200. When I found them on here for $119 I had to buy 2, and all i can say is wow. they hit really nice, and they werent very expensive at all, and they look really sweet too.

Great Sub

I Purchased this sub about three months ago and first put it into a 1.0 cubic foot box. I kept it in that box for a while and realized that it needed to be in a larger box. Amazing sub. make sure you put it into a larger box than recommended. This sub will pound harder than anybody at my school.

This is a great subwoofer. it hits very hard off little power. Although the cone is quite fragile, I enjoy it very much. I also like the little speaker wire plugs that it comes with,(you really have to tear the box apart to find them), but its a nice feature.

THE BEST BANG FOR THE DOLLAR SUB, yes ik these subs are used by everyone and i get sick of looking at them but let me tell you there a reason why everone has these. If you purchase this subwoofer please do not purchase some crappy prefabbed ported box. BUILD A BOX, i recomend 2.5 cubic ft after displace tuned 32-34hz.

Great quality

I have one type R hooked up to my alpine MRP-M650 and it hits hard. The sound quality is great. These subs can handle lots of power. They hit a wide variety of bass. From rap-rock it all sounds good. You cant go wrong with buying an alpine so i would recommned these to anybody.

Excellent Subs

I have two dual 4 ohm alpine Type R's hooked up to a Orion 600d amp which puts out about 600rms at 1 ohm which is what i have the subs running at. These subs are extremely loud and clean they are everything your are look for in subs. I have only had them for a week and already i have been pulled over and set off a couple car alarms:). i would suggest these subs to anyone unless u can afford the type x's

I have one of these pushed by a kenwood 1100 watt monoblock amp and it is in a custom box that i built just to the numbers alpine recomends and this thing absolutely pounds. It hurts my ears to listen to for more than a few minutes. It vibrates everything in my car. I would strongly recommend this sub to anyone who is looking for a lot of bass....it will get the job done and the price isnt even that much. I can have it one and people can hear it 2-3 blocks away. its insane

i installed this sub with a mrd m350, and with only 350 rms it totally pounds! people are always turning there heads to see me coming down the street. my neighbors hate because of this one sub. in a prefab box from cc it sounds amazing, i like to listen to rap, rock, alt, and others(NO COUNTRY) and its great. deffinatly need to pick up this sub, best decision ull ever make!

These subs are probably some of the loudest and cleanest subs ive heard in a while... These subs will put out the given power and will take it with no problems at all. If you need some loud, clean subs and are not looking to spend too much money the alpine Type "R" is definitely the way to go..HAPPY BUMPIN!!

So im 17 years old,and i wanted 2 have a thumping system. i went to best buy and heard these. WOW!!
i just stood there and watched as they played. The song playing was Lean wit it rock wit it by:DFB. they were playing on an 800 watt kenwood class d amp. so the next day i bought them. but i decided to go with a bigger amp. so i searched around and found a PYLE 2000 watt mono amp. that pushes out 700rms @4ohms and 1000 watts @2 ohms. so it was the best match ever.i put them in a audio innovations vented box from b*** b**. and hooked it up 3 weeks ago. OH MY GOD!!! it shakes everything in my car. Oh by the way i hit 152Db at a local competition. SO in short BUY THESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Definition of Pain

These subs are simply amazing!! My friend has two of these, we hooked one up to my profile amp (500W RMS at 2 ohm) and turned the volume up to 22 out of 35 and my ears stared to hurt. I highly recommend these subs over almost any thing, including the MTX 8500s. Do it right the first time, buy alpine and you will not be disappointed.

Be Careful

I own 1 of these subs and it sounded good for about 2 months, I had it hooked up to a power acoustik amp with 880w continuous, and the sucker fried. I was rolling through the block and the sub quit, I opened up my trunk to my cadillac and smoke came rollin out. Good sub, but from a brand like Alpine, I expected better.

I have two diamond d6's, was using a rockford fosgate 1000rms @ 2ohm mono which is overkill. Well this amps rating of 900rms @ 2ohm is just as good and quite cheaper. Only complaint is the plastic end caps and the fact the gain has to be all the way up. Like the subsonic filter which not all amps have. Ordered on a sunday afternoon on my phone, received it following Wensday afternoon, super pleased on that fact, price, and my 3rd order and once again great experience. When I need audio products, i'll be returning to SonicElectronix. Thanks guys!

replacement amp is great

First amp was bad, but the replacement amp is great. Powerful, good sound quality and runs cool. What more can you ask for from an amp? Also, Sonic Electronix did a great job handling the RMA. I will definitely be buying from here again!

Hifonics BRZ1200.1D & 2 Kicker 07cvr12s

I was a little sketchy when buying this amp but im glad i did. This thing pushes my 2 kicker cvr 12s like nothing set at 1 ohm. It has clear and clean sounding bass. I like how its the perfect weight and size. Would recommend this amp to anyone that wants great clean power for a good price.

This amp is a beast. Lots of power. I have two 15" Massive Audio subs, 800 watts rms. Vent boxes 8 cube feet tune at 37 hz wired at 1ohm in a 2001 expediton.

Great little amp

Driving Morel 10" sub in 1.0 cu. ft. sealed cabinet. I am a SQ guy and driving this with the Brutus. It never heats up and gives me plenty of power to my 2 ohm Morel. I do not think I will be able to buy a better amp for twice the money. A lot of my friends use this with 2-4 subs to thump. I do not need that!!!! If you are in the market for a good mono amp this should be in the running.

I bought 2 of these back in August off a friend with an MRP-M850 Alpine amp and these hit so hard I can't believe it. The only bad thing is my amp clips, so I need to buy a 4 awg wiring kit because I have a 6 awg kit which doesn't give these bad boys enough power. A++++++ subwoofer!

Type R

i have one 12" type r in a 1.8 cu ft ported box powered by a kenwood kac 8104d @ 2 ohms(500watts rms) and let me tell you it is louder and sounds better than my old two type e's in a sealed box. it hits the low frequencys absolutely perfect, no distortion. at this price they are a steal. and alpines are extremely durable also, i overpowered both of my type e's by 100 watts on both subs for three years and they still work perfectly i was just ready for change and less weight in the trunk so, buy these you WILL NOT be dissapointed

Alpine Type-R 12" is amazing!

Ok seriously, it doesn't matter what people say about this subwoofer. It is simply the best subwoofer for the money, hands down. BUT, you have to get a good box for it or it will not sound good (as with any subwoofer you buy). Get an Obcon box and you will be amazed with this sub. Gets loud, amazing sound quality, great deep bass, buy this subwoofer right now!

Deep tight bass for a GREAT PRICE!!

i LOVE this sub! It's matted with the Alpine MRP-M500 for the power and this combo cannot be beat! I am heard from BLOCKS away, and mind you it's only ONE type-r sub. I was gonna put two but it's definitely loud with one. It's super easy to install and Sonic helped me out to pick out the right sub and amp combo to make sure i was running the same ohms.

Perfect subs

I've checked over the web for months before buying new subs for my accent 99 hatchback.

The alpine type R were highly suggested everywhere. You know when a product is great when nobody on the web diss it. That's the case with the 1242d or 1212d.

So I hooked two into 1.3 separated chamber powered by an hifonics 1606d. At first, i tought my cheap pionners subs were louder, but those were cleaner.
Then, me and one of my friend build a 4.2 net ft/cu enclosure tune to 32hz and now.... that's insane. Everybody want to get in my car to hear them. My whole car is dynamated, but the subs make everything shake anyway. The Sound pressure is inbelievable. Don't know how i hit, but it's over 140 that's for sure. I can't stand in the car more than few secs at a time.

So, buy those, get yourself a big ported box, get youself ear plug and listen to those subs. Even with -32 db attenuation, the bass is jaw dropping loud and hard hitting. Song like "i wanna love you" by akon are ridiculous

Best Bang For Buck

Awesome sub! I had one of these in a ported box and it killed most other peoples systems. Even alot of people who spend more on theirs agreed that mine was louder.

I have now owned this sub for 1 and a half years now and I have not had any problems with it yet, I live in minnesota and this sub has gone through the extreme cold and heat with no problems. I recommend this alpine type R to everyone! The sub hit a shovel in my trunk and now there is a small hole in it and it still hits just as hard- Truly a great sub!

I have 2 of these in a sealed box and the have the cleanest bass that I have heard. In a ported box, they will rock the block for sure. I am running a 600w RMS diamond audio amp at 1 ohm, and 2 of these wired to 1 ohm and they produce very clean and accurate bass. I will upgrade my amp and get a ported box soon from sonic!

JUST RIGHT

Yo this sub is on point. I got just one Type R hooked up to a 6002 Rockford Fosgate and I couldn't beleive how deep and powerful the bass was. the Type R is in an sealed box and it sounds way to good to be true+ and for the price you just can't beat it.

Excellent Subwoofer

I waws suprised at the great SQ and SPL of this sub, even ported it still produces clean accurate bass. I have three so far and im gonna buy one more. Bought two from an audio and my third from Sonic and it was half off Sonic has the lowest prices around, trust me buy from Sonic they have the lowest prices.

Ive got two of the speakers in my car, they are underpowered and they are still nuts ! they are definitely worth the $. I haven't found this quality for the price anywhere.

this is a great sub for the money spent. pretty loud and even sounds pretty good too. but if you want somethin really loud and better quality you will have to spend some more money.

best bang for the buck period

I have owned many different brands of subwoofers from rockford fosgate to sony. I have to say this speaker out performs any sub in its price range hands down in both sound quality and spl. I own two of these teamed up with a hifonics BXI2006D@ 1 ohm 2000 rms, that 1000 over there rated rms and the take it like a champ. I have them in 5 cubic ft enclosure tuned to 32 hrz the bass is tight, accurate and LOUD to say the least. If you are on a budget and want kicker,jl,rockford bass buy these along with a hifonics amp and you will have no regret.

Great Subs

These are some of the best subs on the market. They sound clean and hit hard, but becareful and use a quality amp. If not you will get major distortion and will blow them. They are power hungry subs so for the best sound don't skimp on the amp. Go BIG with the amp and you will be very pleased.

Very clean and hard hitting

I bought a pair of these subs and put them in a sealed enclosure hooked up to a Hifonics 1206Bxi running at 1 ohm impedance. These subs hit pretty hard but nothing to write home about, I think that the amp is drawing more power than my Tacoma can handle and therefore not really pushing these subs to there limit. I plan on getting a capacitor and then see what these subs can really do.

I have two of these hooked up to a Rockford Fosgate RF 7 amp. I have them running at 4Ohms so I'm getting at least a total of 1000 watts from my amp. They pound hard and with accuracy. The only subs I've had or heard that were better are JL's. I also have a Kicker L7 05 in a Kicker(Godzilla) box....the Alpine's don't get as much SPL as my L7, but I think the reason why is the box. The box I have them in was custom made for JL W6's version 1's...which had an RMS of 300 watts each. So once I get a new box, I hope I'll get just as much SPL as the Kicker with as much SQL as JL's!

I made a nice little saving seeing as how sonicE is only 40 minutes from my house. anyways i got 2 of these bad boys hooked up to a JL audio 1000/1 that i ordered from here and these things knock the pictures off the wall, you feel me? got a sealed box right now and im already doin damage, cant wait till i get a custom ported box.

I have 2x in my 01 galant and the BANG is on.

Big fan of SQ and Alpine surely delivers on what the promise, GOOD SQ and good value.

Powerfull

I'm pushing two RE Audio SE-X subs at 1 ohm. The RE's are rated at 750 watts RMS each and this pushes them no problem. My only complaint is with the tuning. There is no frequency adjustment for the bass boost. I've had multiple Hifonics amps in the past and they all had that function. I assumed this would also, but its at a set frequency.

True 1/0 gauge!

Swapped out my old 4 ga db link amp kit with these tsunami wires and noticed an improvement instantly! These wires are monsters and still extremely flexible. Their a bit hard to solder since the jacket melts. But for the price this is the only wire I know of thats 100% ofc and not copper clad alluminum. Its the real deal and for the price its a steal.

This am is really good its built good to start but it puts out watts like no ones business... I have three ten inch alpine type-s subs and i cant turn the amp up all the way it pushes them way too hard. This amp is a must have!!

Great amplifier no problem at all! ounds good loud and everything you want! 2 months ago i changed my brutus to a Audioque2200 and sold my brutus for this amplfier keeps its value alot! one problem the temrinals on the amp as an angle so its pretty hard to connect wire sometimes.

I would like to say that I recommend this Hifonics amp or any of the Hifonics Brutus amps in general! Ive had mine hooked up for about 3 weeks now and since, blown 3 subwoofers lol and thats just going to show you how underrated and powerful these amps are!

This amp has never over heated yet and/or even got warm at all!!! Must have amp if you are on a budget for sure! Also, the Hifonics on the amp lights up as a really cool blue color! Not like that matters but pick this amp up!!!

One heck of a sub!

I got one last week and it hits so low in my 1.4 cubic foot sealed box. It should be in a smaller box but this one was already built. The banana connectors are very handy but note that it does not come with any mounting hardware. It comes with recommended box dimensions also. This one 12" sub rumbles the hell out of my car and the best part is that it goes louder! I bought this sub based on reviews on this website and I don't regret my purchase one bit even though it cost me $370 Australian. I would recommend this subwoofer to anyone!

Bad A** Brutus Power!

Have owned 4 now. Best amp for price range, period! I have used it in multiple applications with solid results. Installing car audio 20 years, it is a great product.

Big Power

I first started looking into HiFonics products because of the value. After reading the reviews, I tried them out. This is the best sub amp I've ever owned. Plenty of power! I am pushing 2 Rockford Fosgate P1's and am running it at about 50% Subs slam! The amp lights up blue, remote adjustible gain is awesome! Buy this amp. You won't regret it!

Makes noise

Amp is alright, does the job and makes noise, however lacks a little in the lows, and wont even touch the LOW lows. Had multiple shops look at the amp and adjust the settings and it just wouldnt hit them. If your just tryna slap, this will work, but if you are a true bass head, keep on looking.

Really strong amp

On my latest upgrade I decided I would probably need another amp and that the kicker 1000watt amp wasn't going to be able to push 4 subs at once so I bought this amp because i didnt want to spend all that money on another kicker amp. I wanted to test it out by trying to run all 4 subs to it because it is rated higher watts than my kicker. And these subs were putting out around 1700rms, i had 2 10" kicker CVRs and 2 kicker 8" L7s the amp pushed the subs really well at just half power. Id reccomend this amp to anyone, got here in 3 days too!

great power for price

I got this as a short term use amp to hold me over and it worked great. It does rated power just not the cleanest power, 1200 Max rms, any more and its a clipped signal. As with all maxxsonics product first was DOA.

Awesome amp never over heats had it 6 months no probs will buy more Hifonics products when they are not on backorder. Had it hooked up to one s15 L7 solo baric and it pounded. Best amp i've owned to date and owned everything but JL audio.

I love this amp so much, its very sweet looking with the illuminated blue "Hifonics" logo, whenever people check out my system they always point it out, This things got power, I blew out a kicker Cvr 12 from this bad boy. When both those subs worked, it was stupid, everything rattled, my phone, mirror fell off, I have a cross that hangs from the mirror and thing never stopped shaking. My 01 jeep cherokee is the loudest system at school, wouldnt doubt town, This amp pushes subs well, real well. JUST FREAKIN GET IT!

This amp is the best. This is my first amp that worked, and all i can say is wow. I've heard many of my friends amps, and they do not compare at all. This amp is power hungry so i suggest getting an extra battery. Other than that get this amp, you will love it.

If you buy tis amp you better have some very good subs. if you hook this up to any thing @1 ohm that cant handle 2000 TRUE watts rms,its gone. i have owned this amp for 6 months and have been through RE's, MOFO's,COMP's...... you name them , they all faild. only thing for me to do now is buy i more HF1200.1 and sink over a grand in two 18 FI BTL N2's. this should be fun and loud. i highly recomend this amp, cheap price but not if you dont have right subs, cause you will spend all the rest of your $ replacing them.................lol

This amp is absolutly the best amp iv ever owned, its true wattage and this amp is no joke, it powered my 2000 watt 15" Alpine type r, it could of powered two of those subs easily. I also had it powering 3 jl audio 12s, it did perfect. it sounds great, its simple and it looks so tight haha. I highly recomend this amp, just make sure your ears can handle it. ;)

This is a very powerful amp. I have it powering a sundown audio sa-12d2 and it does great. Doesnt even get warm. Im considering on getting another sundown audio sa-12d2 because I know this amp will push them with no problem.

Eh....... so so

I just put this amp into my 2000 Honda Civic with stock alternator and grounds upgraded to 0 gauge. 0 gauge from the front battery to a distribution block in the trunk with 4 gauge running to the amp from there. Hooked up to a 10" RE Audio SXX dual 2 ohm sub down to a 1 ohm load and..........not that great. The box is very very close to spec ported and still not hitting as great as I thought it would. The gain/level is a little past half with no clipping at any point but supposedly that's where 4 volts would be if I eye balled it correctly which is what my Alpine head unit puts out. HU is at +2 on bass and still does not amaze or satisfy me.

In conclusion its not pushing this sub like I thought it would, nothing "crazy loud" or "super hard".

worked for a few months

Was working ok for a few months, didn't seem like it was putting out its advertised power as i had to turn the gain almost all the way up to power a 600 watt sub at 1 ohm. Then today it blew and just about caught on fire, not very impressed.

Not pushing my sub!

I purchased this amp to power a 12" kicker cvx and when i got it wired up, it doesnt even move the cvx unless the gain is turned about 3/4 up at 1 ohm which should be blowing the subwoofer? i have a solid 14.6 voltage so clearly these amps are not what they say they are or i have a defective. Also my fuses are froze in the amp and cannot be taken out. My friend has the hifonics 1500.1 and his fuses will not come out either. i will write another review after i receive a replacement. Don't get me wrong though, i have heard many good things about hifonics and im sure i just got the lemon. :)

Good amp. Not very dependable though. Blew 2 amps within 4 months. Sent it back for the second time so they can repair it. When it was working it sure did slam. Running on 2 12" Alpine type r's.

For a sealed box, this box is a good purchase. While the banana clips in the back do often unscrew loose while trying to attach the speaker wires (not completely off, but loose enough to be a pain) the box provides plenty of room and makes my bass rock the whole neighborhood!
